Best Gimmick of The Attitude Era (WWF)

I liked The Rock the best overall from the attitude era but I think Stone Cold had the best gimmick. The Beer Drinking Anti-Hero gimmick is exactly what the WWF needed at the time. EVERYONE could relate to Stone Cold. The Rock called himself the People's Champ but Stone Cold was they Common Man's champ. That's what I liked about him and his gimmick.

After much deliberation. I have decided on Mr. McMahon. Vince's transformation into this character was the fuel for stonecold! Without him well the attitude era would have been drastically different. I guess thats a whole new question. No corporation, no ministry, and in my opinion. The rattlesnake would not have been venomness.

You are right about Austin playing off the Mr McMahon character.

Now, without Vince, Austin would still have been a bad ass beer swilling foul mouthed SOB, BUT we would never have had the legendary employee vs The Boss storyline, which is the most memorable of the Attitude era and defined it basically. Anti establishment, thats what Austin was about, and Vinny Mac was the establishment.

I still stand by my pick as Austin being the best gimmick of the era, the Vince character wouldnt have made the money, or got the crowd reactions that Austin did, but perhaps Mr McMahon is the most IMPORTANT?

I suppose, thinking about it, maybe neither Austin nor Vince would have been as successful characters without each other? Who else would have allowed McMahon to get the heat he did? The two gimmicks were made for each other, and we were lucky that the WWF found that magic formula when they did, and the "vs the boss" storyline wasnt wasted on someone worthless like Big Boss Man or Mark Mero

The Mankind gimmick was my personal favorite. Mostly at first when he played a deranged and psychotic version of a character who rocked in the corner and pull his hair out. Plus no matter how badly he was beaten he would somehow always get up for more. Then he became the corporate reject version which was fucking hilarious when playing off Vince who seemed almost ashamed to be mean to him at times. Those two had some of the greatest programs of all time such as when Stonecold was hunting Vince down and Mankind had him hidden in the back and broke out the Twister board. Or when Vince was in the hospital and he debuted Mr. Socko.

Whoever thinks the Attitude Era sucks was wrong man it was great!
