Best Forgotten Champion

Owen. When people bring up best ic champions of all time they bring up Perfect, Razor, Bret, Jericho. Owen won the belt twice, and was on his way for victory number 3 until tragedy struck. Multiple time tag champ with Bulldog, Yoko and Jarrett, European champion the guy won every belt except the big one. Why he isnt in the hall of fame yet with Bulldog I don't know. Bulldogs another forgotten champion.

You won't see many people make it to the hof unless they were a heavyweight champion or a long time tag team. Owen didn't stay with anyone long enough to go in as a tag team. I'm not saying he's not worthy. Heck I still can't see why Junk Yard Dog got it. He was never a heavyweight champion and he was okay but mostly a gimmick. I hope he gets in one day to but there are better ones such as Macho Man, Steamboat, and LOD before him.
As far as my pick I'm going with two old school. Arn Anderson I know he wasn't a heavyweight champion but he could go in with Tully, or as with Owen on his singles championships. The 2nd one is Terry Funk. Everyone thinks hardcore Terry but please look at his early stuff from the 70's the man was awesome.

I would have to say Ricky " The Dragon " Steamboat, he is a former NWA World Heavyweight champion and he put on the best matches in history against Ric Flair, also he won the IC title against Randy Savage in one the most historical matches in Wrestlemania and WWE history.

Magnum T.A. he was a 2 time NWA United states hevyweight champion amoung others, His untimly death was a great loss to the wrestling industry. Although he was retired after half of his body was paralized should that not have happened he would have been one of the greatest champs ever.

I don't think Terry Allen (AKA Magnum TA) is dead. He was partially paralyzed in an Oct 1986 car accident which ended his active career. He just appeared last June at a WWE PPV (MVP's US Title defense against Ric Flair)..

TA was an EXTREMELY popular wrestler, next to Hogan and Dusty Rhodes he may have been the most popular wrestler in the US in 1985-86. His matches with Tully Blanchard over the US Title were classics (the 58 minute marathon where Blanchard beats him for the belt with help from his valet Bably Doll, who was disguised as a police officer at ringside is a forgotten gem, their Starrcade 85 "I Quit" match is still talked about and featured on DVD releases today). TA was on the verge of being the heir apparent to Ric Flair as the NWA's top superstar (a spot that went unflilled till Sting took the mantle in 1989) when his accident left him unable to wrestle.

Vader deserves props for being an extremely over bad guy and a much better in ring performer than he is given credit for. After Lex Luger left WCW, Vader was the only heel over enough with fans to consistently oppose Sting. Sting is better known but was a victim of poor booking.

Randy Savage is the Best Forgotten Champion...2 time WWF champ, 1 time IC champ...he should be in the Hall of Fame, but instead they pick Jim Ross. What a joke. Nobody ever says a word about the man anymore, it's disgusting.

You for got about Savage's one day title run in WCW in the NWO days. He beat Sting for the belt ( I think) and had to drop the belt the next night to Hogan's ass... Like he needed another run, that really pissed me off.

what about barry windham in the nwa as u.s. champ? or kendall windham as the i wanna say southern states champ, back in the goold ole battle of the belts shows they used to put on down in florida with mike graham and gordon solie commenting on, kendall by far is THE most unforgotten champ period!!!!!!

most forgotten champion is the following
1.Edge
2.Randy Orton
3.Chavo Gurrero
4.MVP
5.Stephanie McMahon
6.Shane McMahon
7.Vince McMahon (Jr.)

Edge, Randy, Chavo, and Mvp are all currently champions, i dont understand how they are forgotten(Mvp's reign is the 4th longest and Randy had a great reign as ic champion).

I read somewhere that I.R.S was WWE champion for one night at a house show.

If it is indeed true then I.R.S. would get my vote for this topic.

Can anyone confirm that happened?

haha.. wow.. funny deal.

First off... Edge has 15+ titles (3 WWE/WHC runs) to his name and is the current WHC.. you must be ******ed to forget that...

Randy Orton is not only the current WWE champ, but possibly the most improved wrestler since debuting on the active roster, so if you forget about him, or ANY of his title runs, somethings wrong.

Chavo and Eddie have how many tag titles between them? plus he has how many CW titles on his list? thought so..

MVP has only ever had one title, and he has it now.. so yeah, his run will never be forgotten, considering hes the 3rd longest reigning US champ..

the only thing MAYBE right with this list is the mcmahons.. although vince's title run is most likely never going to be forgotten due to all the publicity it gained.. either way..

I am shocked no one has said Kerry Von Erich. (Shows you how forgotten he is) He beat Ric Flair for the NWA World Title, the WCWA World Heavyweight Title (4x's) and came into the WWF and shocked the world by beating Mr. Perfect for the IC Title. Oh, yeah he also had a prosthetic foot when he beat Mr. Perfect. He was only the NWA World Champ for 18 days, which is the 12th shortest reign.

Id have to say Vader. He was an awesome champion in his early WCW days, before Hogan and his cronies showed up.

And his later stint with the WWF kinda put a sad end to his career!

Alot of people forget that Demolition held the tag titles longer than any other team in history (total days as champs combining their 2 title runs). This was back when tag teams actually mattered. Also, Tito Santana is remembered as a jobber for the stars, but he held 3 titles (2 IC and 1 TT) in the 80's. How about Rugged Ronnie Garvin or Rickey Steamboat as the NWA champion (both beat Ric Flair). IC champs regularly forgotten include Rick Rude, Kerry Von Erich, the Mountie, Marty Janetty, and basically anyone who held the belt after 1999

I dont ever see many people recognize Yokozunas run with the world title in 93/94. He was absolutely, supremely dominant, and intimidating. He didnt squash, he CRUSHED his competition. No one ever even had a CHANCE to beat Yoko, and even when he did finally loose, it was by a fluke, to Bret Hart. Yokos monster heel title reighn was amazing.

Also, I dont ever see anyone say anything about Randy Savages world title run, besides how it started, and how it ended. So much so, that even I personally am pretty unfamilure with it, and dont know what he did with it during that year he held it, besides that he was the main guy and had pretty much equal status alongside Hulk Hogan, with the Mega powers, and basically his whole title run was building, and inching closer and closer towards the dream match payoff at the end. Regardless if thats what the righn was based around, it doesnt change the fact that Savage was one of the most Talented guys to ever hold the belt, and that he was even considered to be put up as an equal to Hogan during that time speaks volumes.

Well if were going to talk about the best forgotten champion we cant forget Crhis Benoit. I Mean I know people dont really like to talk about him but hes really the only champion the that wrestleing has tried to erase.

Thats really not on par to the question though. Chris Benoit will be forever remembered, regardless of how hard Wrestling tries to erase him. If anything, he'll be forever remembered, for trying to be erased. Its a double standard that cancels itself out.

Furthermore, Benoit was one of the best Superstars in his early history to NEVER become a Champion. Then once he did, it was like a Gold Rush, because anytime you turned around, it was him holding on Championship after another.

Now if you want a Champion that noone seems to remember much of.. I'd say..

Kane: Easily one of the most forgotten World Heavyweight Champions in the sport today. Why? Because he was such a huge monster and dominate force when he won the Championship, only to turn around and drop it the very next night, ultimately destroying any type of cred. he ever had.

Thats the saddest thing to think of as well. Because the truth is, Kane was such a great character back in the day. He was given the Championship, not because he "earned it" but because the placed him into a storyline they couldn't back him out of, without him winning it. Then, upon doing so, they had to quickly get the Championship BACK OFF him, because they suddenly realized it was too soon for him to have it.

Bob Backlund. He lost his title in the 70s because his manager threw in the towel during a match he had with the Iron Shiek because Backlund was in the Camel Clutch. During the 90s, he feuded with Bret Hart & Backlund's gimmick was that he'd angrily put people in his submission move (cross-face chicken wing) and after he was done he'd stare at his hands as if surprised they'd done the hold without his volition. He finally won the belt (Heavy wieght Champion?) from Bret when Owen convinced his mother to toss in the towel to save Bret from Backlund's submission hold.

What happened afterward? Kevin "Diesel" Nash had a very brief match with Backlund where he kicked the older man in the gut, slammed him with a jacknife power bomb, then pinned him. It was over in seconds. Backlund did some promos later on where talked about wanting to be President of the US after Jessie Ventura became Govenor of Minnesotta... but obviously they weren't serious with the Backlund gimmick because it took place on a non-election year for the Presidency. After that? Nothing!

How about Dean Douglas' reign as Intercontinental Champion? Was given the title then demolished by Razor Ramon.

Scotty 2 Hottys Light Heavy-Weight Title reign, beating Dean Malenko only to be beaten the next week by Malenko making him the first 2 time Light Heavy-Weight Champion

Christian as Light Heavy-Weight Champion...actually all the title reigns for that belt except Gillberg

Jeff Hardy, Jerry Lynn, Tajiri, X-Pac other notable mentions

The BEST forgotten champ??? Ravishing Rick Rude!!! His us title feuds, most notably with dustin rhodes were incredible and led him to the big gold belt. He was wcw international world champ(I think that's the exact term) but because of the whole nwa/wcw split few remember him as a world champ. That whole 2 belt thing was weird and rude fell victim of a push at the worst time. Outside of Vader, Rude imo was the most dominant heel in wcw at that time and his championships sadly go un-recognized.
