Best Forgotten Champion

No one has mentioned one of the greatest over looked and technical wrestlers ever, The Dynomite Kid. No wonder the man's back is so bad having to carry Davie Boy Smith around through out the 80's.

also as far as Owen not being in the Hall that is all due to his widow's decision of not accepting the invatation. They are not going to put some one in the hall with no one doing an acceptance speach. They have to have permision for memoralbilia sales.

Rey Mysterio - World Heavyweight Champion (actually, this is one that people WANT to forget...)

I agree with this as well.Rey Mysterio is not considered in the Heavyweight range and was handed the belt on a silver platter due to the fact that Eddie just died. What makes him deserve the title more than anyone else like Benoit?I thought this was pointless and he didn't prove in any way he was deserving. His title matches were horrible.I think this will be forgotten.

Rick Rude and Mr. Perfect. you rarely hear them come up in conversations. two really good wrestlers that for some reason have been forgotten even though they shouldnt have been. Mr. Perfect can out wrestle everyone in the WWE right now if he were alive.

Uh, I dunno who doesnt talk about Mr Perfect or Rick Rude when you bring up conversation about great IC champs, at least people who have watched wrestling before 2000. Id say Big Van Vaders title reigns are basically overlooked due to his dry run in the WWF. He had the WCW World Heavyweight Title as well as the IWGP World Title Title. Bruno Sammartino is def up there on the list considering he had the longest title reign in history and noone remembers him. Billy Graham also up there IMO.

wat about bob backlund he was wwe champion for like 5-6 years and then he lost it to iron sheik and never got a rematch cause of a bad back witch is total crap. Instead they gave the title to hogan. backlund is the only wwe champ to never get a rematch so he is proly the most forgotten champion

I gotta say Tommy Dreamer, just because of the way he won and lost the belt on the same night after working so hard for ECW his whole career, paying wrestlers out of his pocket, hauling the merch to the shows. He's the most forgotten champion.

Edit: If I have to do it for the WWE, I'm gonna say Kane. He had the perfect angle coming into the federation, took the belt off Austin and lost it to him the next night on Raw. The newer fans may not even know he had a title reign, at all. For a big man, I say Kane is one of the better wrestlers.

A lot of the posts are of champions who either a) had short title reigns like Kane and Jannetty, or b) had long reigns 30-years ago and defended like 10 times per year. Here's one I discussed with a freind the other day - William Regal.

Let's not forget, in the mid-90's WCW, Regal was one of the greatest, if not the greatest, Television Champions of all time. He had a classic feud with The British Bulldog and narrowly escaped each match with his belt in tact. But he held it, defended it, and got great heel heat. Cut fantastic promos, and worked a sound technical match.

i agree william regal was a very good wrestler, he was sound on the mic he could cut a good promo and he was a very good technical wrestler. he could have been a great wrestler in wwe if he was pushed well. But on another hand i could go with Owen Hart because he was good on the mic and solid performer. i also agree with the guy above me. Tommy Dreamer basically worked his butt off carried basically a franchise on his shoulders and no body really talks about him. anyways i can also say Curt HEnning he was a great intercontinental champion i believe longest reign in the 90's but i dont recall him ever have a proper wwe title run.

Arn Anderson sadly never held a real belt. The T.V. title in WCW is all I can remember. If he wasn't world championship worthy he was definitely U.S champ worthy.

Everyone makes a deal of Ric Flair being 16 Time World Champ. Have we all forgotten that Jerry Lawler has been aWorld Champion well over 20+ times and has held about 60 or 70 titles total.

Hey tripleh12, check your stats, Backlund not only got another shot, he won the belt from Bret Hart in the 90's. I think he was the only World Champion in history to hold the title in two decades with a decade off in between. (70's and 90's.)

Just a few off the top of my head

Benoit- won the WCW title and handed it right back and left for the WWF the next day

Kane-won on sunday lost of monday we all do our best to remember but its hard crossing my fingers on a real title run for kane

The Great Khali-everyone says they want to forget Rey but the champion i most want to forget is The Great Khali however im scared hes never going to escape my memory, man is he bad

and last but not least any hardcore champ there were so many title changes in one night its hard to keep track of them all

The Great Khali reminds me of a gimmick wrestler they brought in to feud with Flair in the 80's WCW...El Gigante...now that guy was B-A-D. At least they never put a belt on him.

Umm try checking your stats yourself buddy. In particular note the stat where Backlund held the WWE title for almost FOUR YEARS in the 80's (lost the title in December 83).

(edit) Oh yeah, and getting a title match 11 years later hardly qualifies as a rematch, a rematch is when you get another title shot right away against the person that beat you, which is what tripleh12 said Backlund didnt get, so he was right.

What about Mick Foley (Mankind) 3 Time WWE Champion and the Greatest Transitional Champion of all time! Held the title for two seperate one month stints after beating the Rock and then losing to the Rock and then beating the Rock in an empty arena match during superbowl 99 and then for a day after winning at Summerslam 99 and losing on Raw the next day to Triple H

well im gonna say Kane,WWE need to give him a good title run he is not being used to his potineal Kane is defantly one of the best in the buiseness today now im not saying there isnt good wrestlers but Kane is DEFANTLY in the top 1 he desirves a title run he has been in the buiseness for 10 yrs this october [he debuted october 1997] well acually he has been in the buisness longer just as different characters but the character Kane has be in the buisenes for ten yrs in october and he defantly is arguable one of the best!!!

I know the Hardcore title don't count, but Steven Richards held the thing 21 times! And as well, Bradshaw actually held it more, with 23 reigns! May not have counted as much of a real title, but thats impressive!

I always thought Billy Kidman was a fantastic Cruiserweight. He had the record for most Cruiserweight championship reigns, til Mysterio beat the record. I was so angry when he was let go. WWE really needs to bring him back.

There are so many fogotten champions
How about The Brain Busters managed by Bobby Heenan they left the NWA joined WWE won the tag belts off of another forgotten champion Demolition who held the titles on three seperate occasions

Also Brian Pillman the very first Cruiserweight Champion ever

Stan Stasiak ended Bruno's final championship run

Honky Tonk Man the longest reigning Intercontinental champion of all time

Shane Douglas was once Intercontinental Champion there are way too many to mention them all

One of my favorite champions, and wrestlers overall, is 'Hands Of Stone' Ronnie Garvin. He beat Ric Flair for the NWA World title back in the day. I haven't heard his name mentioned in ages.

Plus people hardly ever talk about Barry Windham anymore. Barry was an impressive guy who held many different titles in the old NWA territories. I always liked him.

I would have to say Rom Simmons. He actually was a great wrestler. If you told the average new WWE fan they wold never have thought that Ron Simmons at one point held a major title.

Yeah Garvin was a pretty good champ wasnt he however I think hes been forgotten because his title reign wasnt very long or memorable, however you still hear mentions of him on Raw sometimes because Randy Orton does a Garvin Stomp and JR seems to point that out on occasion.

I don't think anyone mentioned two of my favorite Japanese wrestlers: Ultimo Dragon and Taka Michinoku.

At one point, Ultimo Dragon held 16 different championships from several different promotions including the WCW TV title and the WCW Cruiserweight title. He was inducted into the Wrestling Observer hall of fame in 2004.

Taka was the WWF's very first Light-Heavyweight Champion, has a finisher named for him (Michinoku Driver), and has a very popular promotion in Japan (Michinoku Pro Wrestling). He has also held many titles in Japan and Mexico for various promotions.

OK, I get why everyone's crapping on the Hardcore title, but it did have some moments. Who remembers Jeff Hardy VS. RVD or The Undertaker's reign w/ that belt. How about Raven who held the title more times than anyone. Crash Holly the "houdini of hardcore". Bob Holly and Al Snow who had their best runs fighting over it. Road Dogg and Boss Man had a few good matches for it as well. So, I understand why u crap, just thought I'd give u a few reasons not to.

As for forgotton champs.
Crash Holly- Light HeavyWEIGHT, Tag, Hardcore
Raven- NWA Champ, wwe hardcore
Jerry Lynn- WWE LHW
The Natural Born Thrillers- at one time or another every member was a tag champ
believe me I can think of more but I feel that's enough for now.

I know he had some gold in ECW, and without being too partisl, because he was/is my fave of all time how about good old Peter Polaco -aka- Justin Credible...does anyone remember if he had ANY gold in WWE????

FYI, Billy Kidman and WWE parted wyas because Billy has pretty much retired from the ring due to injuries. Billy just couldnt stop getting injured so his release was inevitible.

My forgotton champion would be the Fabulous Moolah. What a woman. Has held the title several times from late 1950s into 1990s. She held the title over 4 decades. According to WWE she held the titles for around 20 years straight howeve there has been conflicting evidence shown thats she lost it three times between 1958 - 1978.

But she was inspiring.
