Best Big Man Wrestlers?

wut about Booker T.'s brother Stevie Ray ? he wasnt as athletic or marketable or w/e like Booker, but he definetly was the power behind Harlem Heat winning those 9 or 10 tag team championships

Call me crazy, but I'm going with Kane as my fave, though not the best. He's an excellent worker and pretty much stays with the "big man" style, which it hard to get people's respect with that style these days. Mike Awesome was good and brought a Japanese style for a big man. Taker is probably the best though. Here's a thought that may flip everyone. I heard that when Hogan wrestled in Japan, he was GOOD. Very good. He had a different moveset and everything because he didn't have to play up to the American Hero theme he did in USA. Any thoughts?

I haven't seen any of Hogan's old work but I've heard of it. From what I've heard, while in Japan, he was rather average for an American wrestler. Japan's wrestlers are all fantastic so he probably didn't look all that great next to him. But yes, Hogan was an obviously better wrestler in Japan than he was here. Unfortunately, Hogan, in actuality, is 6'4" and 275. That's pretty much what's expected out of a typical main eventer.

I going with Kane, Just because he is my favorite wrestler , and he can still pull off athletic manuvers as witnessed at Wrestlemania 22 and he's still strong, chokeslaming Big Show.

other honorable mentions are vader, bam bam, undertaker, big show, andre the giant, and abyss.

To be honest I never watched alot of wrestling. I have been a fan of WWE seen 2001 but thats about it. Anything else I watch, I watch on youtube.

One big guy that stood out to me when I was a kid is the One Man Gang. He was grossly out of shape, but he was a big guy who did damage in the ring and actually had some offensive manuvers and could wrestle decent matches. I liked watching him, so I'll give him some props since all of the other obvious greats have already been named.

Well as my name suggests, abyss. He is amazing for his size, his athletism and movement are great, and his ring work is just fantastic. Thats why He's top of wwe's wish list.

I know that Bam Bam Bigelow and the Undertaker have been named about a hundred times in this thread, but these 2 guys are hands down the best big men ever in the business. Bigelow was so versitile as he could put on a great match with guys like RVD to Taz, both of whom had a completely different style. The legacy of the Undertaker speaks for itself.

Another big man not afraid of the top rope more then once a match? Thats easy, the man Bam Bam wanted to be when he grew up Jerry "The Crusher" Blackwell!!! He looked like a ping pong ball but flew like a cruiser weight.

I agree with the many people that said Vader, Bam Bam, and Undertaker, they are three of the best big men ever.

But I question how anyone could say Sid?

I honestly have to take the Ric Flair approach to this. The guy was never particularly entertaining, and was not very talented. He was one of those guys that were sloppy, and you could tell the guys he was in the ring with were in legitimate danger because of it.

If Kane lost some weight he would be at the top of the list but I hate him being shirtless and getting bigger. The best IMO was Vader but the Undertaker and Bam Bam were also amazing. I also cant really understand Sid, considering he could barely powerbomb someone correctly. And ontop of that he attempted one top rope kick and broke like every bone is his leg in like 54253 places. (Not really, but still) If your going to go with a stiff Big Man then Nash is far superior to Sid in almost every respect. Plus he and Warrior are probably sharing a room at the crazyhouse right about now. :p

Kane and Undertaker right now are top contenders for best big men wrestlers. They both have the ability to entertain in the ring and do things a big man wouldn't usually do. For example, Undertaker does old school which is climbing and walking across the ropes with so much balance and jumping off doing damage to one's shoulder. He also does a flying close line to the out side of the ring. Kane on the other hand does one top rope move with his a close line but he does what a big man does and that is moves like scoop slams and etc. Another thing he does that I witnessed at a house show is a Hogan like leg drop which was to perfection imo.

Back in the day my vote goes to Bam Bam Bigelow. I have seen much of his E.C.W work. He has had many classics with RVD, Tazz, Sabu and etc. His splash off the top rope never failed to impress me. He set the heights of a big man wrestler and set trends.

When I first clicked on this blog, I thought it would be easy, finding a great big wrestler. However when you actually sit down and consider all the factors (in ring skills, technical ability, mic work, ect) finding a great wrestler over 300 lbs and 6'6" tall is rather difficult. Most of the people listed here Sid, Bam Bam, Yoko, Vader were main eventers a very short part of their career. Most people on here list Nash as the most dominant however he was listed by PWI as one of the most overrated champions of all times. So my question is this, Has there actually ever been a "big man" in wrestling that you could call truely great???

The all time classic big man wrestler and soon to be WWE champion - The Great Khali!

This guy reeks of awesomeness. He has that non-english language barrier thing and also that unparalled moveset that anyone would be proud of. (i.e. the likes of Chris Benoit, Kurt Angle, Shawn Michaels)

Seriously my vote is for Undertaker. Below is a list of his championships:

United States Wrestling Association:

USWA Unified World Heavyweight Championship (1 time)

World Class Wrestling Association:

WCWA Texas Heavyweight Championship (1 time)

World Wrestling Federation / Entertainment:

World Heavyweight Championship (1 time, current)

WCW World Tag Team Championship (1 time) – with Kane

WWF/E Championship (4 times)

WWF Hardcore Championship (1 time)

WWF World Tag Team Championship (6 times) – with Stone Cold Steve Austin (1), The Big Show (2), The Rock (1) and Kane (2)

Royal Rumble Winner (2007)

Undefeated at WrestleMania (15-0)

This may not be a very popular pick, but in my opinion I would have to say that Shohei "Giant" Baba should definiately deserves some consideration when speaking about great "big man" wrestlers. Not only was Baba a dominant champion, he was the creator of All Japan Pro Wrestling and was a key in the development of many top Japanese wrestlers and many American wrestlers in Japan.

Giant Gonzales. I mean, do you remember how he would swing that arm, and then right afterwards swing his arm again?? The man was amazing!

Kane and the Undertaker are the top of my list. The thing is due to to their speed and agility I sometimes forget their 7" (sorta). Also quite recently I saw Kane do a standing dropkick. How many big men can do that?(Besides the Undertaker)

earthquake RIP but yea he was good for his size fat and he cud actually run man like fast too for his size visera isnt bad either jus slow

Undertaker :undertaker2: ,hands down. How many others at near 7' can walk the ropes or do a suicide dive over them?:shit: Not to mention his wrestling ability for submissions as well as his striking abilities.Kane is a very close second.

I have to jump on the wagon a Undertaker and Kane vote. at the moment with undertakers resume' and his amazing ability to stay at the top of his game for how many years. i mean i read that he changed his workout because he saw that these younger guys move so much faster than the wrestlers of his generation. Kane although close to 40 as stated earlier he has many years left and i believe that if they actually gave him a lengthy title run it would put him on another level of fanbase not to mention the prestige back to the title

IMO the best big man wrestlers are in order.

1. The Undertaker. How can it get much better than him he is the best no matter what anyone says. When you mention greatness The Undertakers name is also mentioned

2. Kevin Nash. I don't care what you say with his Charisma and athletic ability he is also one of the all-time greats.

3. Kane. He is so Underrated it makes me sick to think of how many title oppertunities he has had and vince only gave him one run for 24 hours.

4. Bam Bam Bigelow. He was very agile for his size and he could get it done in the ring too bad he passed away. R.I.P Bam Bam

And Finally

5. Andre the Giant. This guys just reeks of class he was the consumatte performer. Without him putting over hulk hogan we might not be at the level of wrestling were at today.

Well the one im about to say is not the best but he is certainly good for his size, UMAGA!! He goes to the top rope every match and Ive never seen a splash look so good

Wow a lot of very Uninformed people on here. To have Umaga as a great Big man, Ill leave you to the embarassment of having really said that.
As for my few.
The Undertaker:The Best Big man currently wrestling IMO, he does it all and is one of the premeire strickers in Wrestling today, look at his match up against Kurt Angle at No Way Out 06, that is considered a Wrestling Clinic, look at what he does in moves that Big men shouldn't really do like Old School.
Bam Bam Bigalow:The Beast from the East, quite easily one of the best big men of all time, could work with the smaller guys and put on some great matches with guys like Taz and RVD in ECW.
Giant Baba:This guy is one of those that people don't know much about, his later career wasn't that great but look at his stuff with Lou Thesz and Bruno Sammartino and others, He put Ric Flair over as Ric Flair was becoming big, He created AJPW. He is considered the last of the Old School Promoters.
Mike Awesome:Is there much you can say about this guy that hasn't been said before, it is a real shame that both WWF and WCW pissed away this guy when he could have been the top guy in either company.

There are others like Vader that should be on this list but these are just four of the guys I consider to be the Best. I won't say anything really disrespectful about Andre the Giant but his match with Hogan at WM III was an exercise in Wrestling under the Influence, He had drunken 14 bottles of Wine before the match and Hulk Hogan had to lift Andre himself because he had become dead weight and wasn't helping Hogan lift him.

1. Bruiser Brody- Old school and still the greatest big man of all time

2. The Giant aka The Big Show aka Paul Wight- back in his prime, he could pull off a damned good drop kick.

3. Kevin Nash- Big Sexy has to make the list every time.

4. Mike Awesome- Lame gimmicks and bad mic skills aside, all I can say is friggin Awesome Bomb from the top rope. Nuff Said.

5. King Kong Bundy- Before King Kong, fat guys were usually jobbers.

and last but not least a three way tie....Why? Cuz it's three of the best big man tag teams of all time

3. The Twin Towers (Hakeem aka One Man Gang and The Big Boss Man)- Two aggressive big men who could have used a little more time together to dominate like they should have.

2. The Natural Disasters(Earthquake and Typhoon)- These guys were dominant as both faces and heels. To be over half a ton in weight and still be able to rock both sides of the fence was immaculate.

1. The SkyScrapers(Dangerous Dan Spivey and Sid Vicious and Mark Enos) Two out of three help world titles and the only thing that took Dan Spivey down was the fact that he was a huge drug head. Other than that, to have Psycho Sid and the man who eventually became The Undetaker together on a team was dominance all in it's own self!

That's all somebody has to say. The Undertaker is, not only the greatest "big man" wrestler, he is also the greatest wrestler of all time. For his size, he does amazing things. He is a high flyer (old school, his incredible dive over the top rope), he is a submission specialist (triangle choke, dragon sleeper), and he is the best slugger in the history of the WWE. Add to all of that, that he has been with the WWE for 16 and a half years and has managed to stay current with the fans proves his greatness.

Regardless of the best, Khali is one of the worst and should not be at the main event level. Only a few months ago, his matches had to be heavily edited because he was so bad, so why the huge push all of a sudden?

My contenders in this debate however:

The Natural Disasters were the best big man tag team of all time and i'm sure Earthquake will be inducted into HOF next year.

Yokozuna was a good champion, though Fuji was very instrumental in his success.

Bam Bam Bigelow - Another HOF induction next year with a bit of luck.
