I have been meaning to bring this up in discussion for awhile, but with all the talk about Strikeforce making a run at the top spot in mma I kind of forgot all about Bellator. Bellator Fighting Championship seems to fly under the radar when it comes to mma, but they are an up start organization. It is broadcast through some branch of ESPN, I have never actually seen an event, but I have followed the results of the events and most of the events seem to be entertaining.
Bellator is broken up into season's since it is shown on ESPN, which is an interesting concept. Their weight classes were all determined by tournaments that lasted throughout the first season. This saw Joe Soto and Eddie Alvarez get crowned champions of their respected weight classes. None of the titles have been defended so far.
They have a decent crop of talent. Eddie Alvarez is an extremely good talent who could be destined for great things. At one time the UFC was looking at signing him, they may still be. Joe Soto also is extremely good and in my opinion could run through the talent in the WEC, if given the chance. And lets not forget Toby Imada who has been around for awhile. He recently was defeated by Alvarez but has some sick submissions, if you want proof just check out the submission of the year thread.
My point is, Bellator is a very underrated organization and my question to you is can you see it ever competing with the big boys? They have great smaller talent, if anything they can give WEC a run for its money. What do they need to do to improve?
