Ba-Bomb is a fucking moron. Prove it here.

I'm getting fucking sick of knobheads missing the point causing a barrage of hate against my religion.

I fully believe that the Bible does not condemn homosexuality so don't condemn my religion because people using its name have missed the point.

Things to do today:

- Get a picture of Spike n Tyke from Tom in Jerry in a thread.

- Get Gelgarin to watch the West Wing for the seventeenth time.

Lee, are you really trying to suggest that there is nothing in the bible that someone could reasonably conclude is anti-homosexuality? Also, are you denying that the majority of the figureheads of your religion don't send a message that homosexuals are less than equal? It is good that you realize the error in that approach but it is far from a few individuals that are giving your religion a bad name. Too many people just say well I don't believe the parts that don't add up while remaining complicit in that information being imparted on others through the power large groups of followers can command.

I've read the Bible cover to cover. There are three times where homosexuality is said as a bad thing:
Sodom and gomorrah which is more about the rape than the fact they were homos.
That bit in the OT when the hebrew word used for abomination is also the same word used as "not bothered" the OT law was fulfilled by Jesus so isn't applicable.
Paul in one of his letters but the context is that the greeks were bumming each other more than having sex with their wives so he's saying "have sex with your wives".

Then there's:
David who loved Jonathan just as a man loves a woman. Gay.
A bit in Matthew where Jesus says some people are born that way.
A bit in Isaiah where God says he doesn't care as long as they obey the sabbath.

Unfortunately the religious right are the loudest and it's a minor issue at best in the bible.

For everyone saying "this is why I don't believe in God" etc., I'd just like to draw your attention to the fact that Joseph Stalin was an atheist.

Am I the only person who doesn't think about God? I'm not religious, I'm not agnostic, I'm not really atheist either. I just don't care.

Also, if you think that Jesus would support ostracising anyone in society for something beyond their control, you're a fucking idiot who needs to read the Bible properly. It says "love thy fellow man" it does not append "unless he's actually a man".

Shit. Stalin was an atheist?

You told the shit out of me. Converting to Christianity, brb.

For what it's worth, I understand what you're trying to say, and it's still bullshit.

How can you blame someone for reading this

Leviticus 18:22 - "Do not lie with a man as one lies with a woman; that is detestable."

Leviticus 20:13 - "If a man lies with a man as one lies with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They must be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads."

and then interpreting it as anti-homosexual? I sure as hell can't. I am well aware that there are debates as to what any of the passages mean in both interpretation and translation but I find the convenient application of those important considerations for ANY part of the bible to be one of the more annoying things about religious people. Sometimes the passage is "metaphorical," yet sometimes it is exactly as described, sometimes the words are not what they say, sometimes they are. It is good that you have done the research here but on what other of your beliefs have you conveniently tilted to the other side of the spectrum? The problem is you can basically use the bible to back whatever you want within reason based on how you choose to do your interpretation. Quite frankly, the idea that the bible is a source of universal truths from beyond this life is obviously false and that is the real problem. The amount of effort put into denying that is remarkable to me.

Unfortunately the religious right are the loudest and it's a minor issue at best in the bible.

It is clearly more than the religious zealots that have bought into this idea. To just put this on them is a massive cop out. For example, if you are a Catholic and the Pope comes out and says that gay marriage threatens the future of humanity itself then you are complicit in that message. Do you really expect that this convinces no other Catholics that this is wrong just because it isn't a huge part of the bible?

I'm more or less the same. It's not so much that I don't care; I'm just pretty sure that if somebody was able to conclusively prove or disprove the existence of a supreme being it wouldn't alter my behaviour in the slightest. If God revealed himself and instructed me to launch a holy war and kill all the Jews I wouldn't do it. Similarly if he appeared and told me to love my fellow man and obey the speed limits I'd only do what he said because it's what I've been doing anyway.

Real or metaphorical; God simply isn't relevant to me.

I've already posted why the OT law is not applicable. The pope doesn't represent me so that argument is invalid. What's your point?

Lets take a verse from both chapters, you ever heard a christian condemn this?

“You shall not approach a woman to uncover her nakedness while she is in her menstrual uncleanness. 18 v 19

If a man lies with a woman during her menstrual period and uncovers her nakedness, he has made naked her fountain, and she has uncovered the fountain of her blood. Both of them shall be cut off from among their people." 20 v 18

then there's 1 Corinthians 6 also used to condemn homosexuality which also mentions revilers. Never heard christiand condemn that before.

The word Eunuch is also used for homosexual in the Bible:

For there are eunuchs who have been so from birth, and there are eunuchs who have been made eunuchs by men, and there are eunuchs who have made themselves eunuchs for the sake of the kingdom of heaven. Let the one who is able to receive this receive it.” Matthew 19:12. Why would Jesus say some are born that way?

Is 56 v 4:
For thus says the LORD:
“To the eunuchs who keep my Sabbaths,
who choose the things that please me
and hold fast my covenant,
5 I will give in my house and within my walls
a monument and a name
better than sons and daughters;
I will give them an everlasting name
that shall not be cut off.

Seriously, don't you jackasses have anything better to do than mope about how "a book" hates homosexuals?

Live your fucking lives. If you burn in hell, I guarantee that homosexuality will be the least likely cause. I guarantee the haters will burn first.

It totally isn't bullshit. You're tarring all Chrstians and Christianity with the same brush because of idiots like Ba-Bomb. Joseph Stalin, responsible for the deaths of thousands of people because they weren't Atheists, does not have much in common with you or your world view.

I'm not saying you should convert, I'm saying it's fucking stupid to take the words of someone like Ba-Bomb and attribute that attitude to all Christians, especially when he has missed the biggest point of the Christian message. If Lee came here and said "people like Joseph Stalin are the reason I hate Atheists" it would be rightly dismissed as ridiculous.

I'm obviously not saying Ba-Bomb is as bad as Stalin, but the argument is the same, and it's a bad one.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, I'm an atheist and I hate atheist. Atheist are the biggest bunch of assholes I run into.

If you are quoting bible verses then you have clearly have missed my point. If you want to keep pretending the bible is infallible then that is your prerogative. I don't have any interest in perpetuating that myth any further. OOC, what denomination are you? Are you actually denying that the leadership of many Christian religions have clearly stated positions that seem to treat homosexuals as less than equal?

Where have I said that? It's obvious they have condemned that but I disagree with them.

Same way I feel pretty much. They can be just as condescending and pretentious as any religious group.

I'm someone who doesn't flat out believe in a God, at least not in a biblical sense but ultimately I understand that I nor anyone else has any fucking idea. Since no one has any fucking idea, one belief (or lack of I suppose) should not dictate a damn thing socially, politically or morally. Right now, if you're looking directly at religion versus atheism/agnosticism there's only one of those who (not as a collective whole mind you) actively seek to deny equal rights and that is the religious community. I say ''not as a collective whole'' because I know plenty of Christians who are in favor of gay rights and equality, just as I've come across Atheists who are ******ed bigots.

You obvious do not agree with them and that is a good thing IMO but I think the distinction between the "right wing" and the leaders of a faith is an important one. When you blast people for not liking a religion because the leaders of it have a warped view then that seems like an odd thing to be mad about. That seems like an obvious reason to dislike something. I don't know your specific case but if the leaders of your denomination subscribe to this view then you give them power to ignorantly influence others by affiliating yourself with them.

Einstein said that insanity was doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. Maybe everyone should think of that before having this debate for the millionth time, you insane bastards!
