Deadline for Ascension RPs - Tuesday 23rd March 23:59 EST

A small dank corridor is revealed as wooden doors fly open. Clicking of high heels and polished shoes can be heard scuffing off of the hard floor as a woman and a man usher themselves up the corridor. It is Becky Serra and Leon Kensworth. Their eyes meet each others for a second as they move up the corridors and through more doors.

Becky: Why are we going so fast?

Leon: Are you kidding me!?

Becky: No, seriously…

Leon: Well, Becky. 10 minutes ago, I was sitting in Vance’s office and the phone begins to ring. Vance stops talking and answers the phone. He starts talking fast and agreeing with whomever it was on the phone. He slams the phone down and tells me to get my ass over to this derelict building and pick you up on the way.

Becky: So, what are we actually doing here? Who are we interviewing?

Leon pushes through another wooden door to reveal the suited pair of Big Dave and Karnage standing with their arms crossed over their chests. Gold shimmering off of their shoulders and a mean look on their faces. Leon and Becky come to a stop as Karnage eyes them both up and down.

Leon (quietly): Them!

Dave: You’re late!

Leon: I’m sorry. I had to pick up Becky as per you request. She wasn’t ready and had to put on her make-up. You know how it is, I’m sure.

Karnage grunts.

Dave: You see, myself and my associate here, like to be punctual. We thought we had given you adequate time to get here but what do we know huh? We are only WZCW Champions. You are very lucky that Karnage and I are in very good moods as of late.

A worried look disappears from Leon’s face and is replaced by a relieved one.

Karnage: Becky! You’re with Dave! Leon…

Karnage walks right up to Leon and looks him in the eye.

Karnage: You’re with me!

Karnage smiles as the worried look that was prevalent on Leon’s face returns. Both Karnage and Dave give each other a nod and head off down separate corridors with their interviewer accompanying them.

Karnage and Leon continue to walk for a few seconds in complete silence. The sharp clicking of Leon’s polished shoes on the floor are all that can be heard as Karnage continues his stone-faced determination to remain silent.

Leon: Where are they going? Or more importantly, where are we going?

Karnage draws a heavy breath in and then lets it go. A groan emerges from his mouth and Leon begins to wish he had just stayed quiet.

Karnage: Have you noticed, Leon?

Leon’s features turn to that of bewilderment as he ponders the question that Karnage has posed to him. Thankfully, the silence is broken by Karnage continuing.

Karnage: Have you noticed how much of a failure I am?

Leon: Uhm… What!?

Karnage: Curious, isn’t it? You rushed here tonight to meet myself and Dave and as you saw me with my Elite X Championship thrown over my shoulder, you could not help but think that I was a complete failure.

Leon: I would never dream of-

Karnage: QUIET! I saw it in your eyes. You stepped through the door and saw my failings. You saw me lose to Showtime David Cougar. You saw me lose to Blade at All Or Nothing and you damn sure saw me lose to Frankie Smith at Kingdom Come. You see, Leon, my failings are my curse…

Leon looks at Karnage and assesses in his head whether Karnage is finished or not. With some trepidation, Leon begins to speak.

Leon: You have been beaten 3 times since you joined WZCW! There are many people in this company that would die for a record like that.

Karnage: I know! For you see, everyone fails. Failure is human. Through failure, we can learn so much more than victory. If we are always victorious, we are always complacent. No lessons can be learned from winning and it only serves to fuel your ego.

Leon: What are you getting at?

Karnage shoots a look at Leon that seems to question how wise he is by interrupting again.

Karnage: Throughout my life, I have made plenty of mistakes. I have watched them pile high into the air and after everyone, I have learned something and been better because of the experience. I was beaten by Showtime and then I was beaten by Blade. I was in a no-man’s land of WZCW misfits. It would have been so simple for me to throw in the towel and call it quits. However, I leaned from my mistakes and won the Elite X League. Then I was beaten by Frankie Smith at Kingdom Come. My resolve was rejuvenated and one show later, the Elite X Championship hangs over my shoulder.

Leon: Are you saying that you like to lose!?

Karnage: Tut-tut, Leon. You have missed my point completely. You see, what myself and Dave have in common is our need to be better than everyone else. If we lose, we find ways to make ourselves better. If we are part of a stable that is being held down by some deadweight “leader”, then actions need to be taken. Ricky can testify to that… We have taken on all comers and now stand as the two very best Champions in WZCW.

After Kingdom Come, I met Vance Bateman. He was sipping champagne with some production crew. I told him that I was out to make up for the wrongs that had befallen me over my WZCW career and thus far, everything is going to plan. I told him that I was going to beat Frankie Smith and everyone else that had managed to pin me over my stay here. It seems whoever is in charge here sees how steadfast my resolve is and has allowed me to take on another of the “I Pinned Karnage Club”. One name has been struck from that club thus far and another will be at Ascension.

Leon: Aren’t you worried about your opponents? A lot of people see them as the real challengers to the gold that you and Dave are holding.

Karnage: Hahaha! Are you serious, Leon!? Steel has been a shell of a man since I thrashed him inside the ring. I gave him a beating and I would be very surprised if he even makes it to the ring. He is scum and nothing more. He doesn’t deserve anything from WZCW and the early thoughts that he would come off the rails have come true.

Leon: And of Showtime?

Karnage: Well, Show is another prospect isn’t he? He has been flip-flopping around the divisions more times than I care to count and after a long, long wait, I finally get a chance to settle the score. Make no mistake, Leon. Dave and I know what is at stake here. However, three possible outcomes will be eventually reached. Either Steel doesn’t show up and Dave and I take Showtime apart. Or, Steel turns up and Dave and I pick them apart. Or finally, Steel and Showtime fail to co-exist and they implode from the inside out.

Personally, it doesn’t matter to me. At the end of the day, another of my failing will be erased and Dave and I will prove that we are better than anyone who dares to stand before us.

Scene opens inside a driving limo. Showtime David Cougar is seated in the backseat, a folder of important documents to his left, mini bar to his right. He begins talking to someone sitting off camera seated across from him.

Cougar: What an absolute thrashing I gave Trevor Steel at Meltdown. I tell you, I have single handedly robbed the man the will to fight, I have shone light on the crimes he has made and made him pay dearly for them and now (Showtime holds up the folder) these legal documents will make sure that Trevor gets locked away for his life time of crimes. And as for young Damien, he will be given a second chance and get to live a life of opportunity and privilege in a foster home void of crime and poverty. I told Trevor that he would pay for all his sins and now his day of reckoning is upon him. Ha ha.

The voice of Trent Stonewall can be heard: Indeed, Trevor has learned the wrath of what happens when you mess with celebrity, and Show, your ratings are threw the roof. Your career is going to skyrocket to new heights when you close this chapter of your story and begin your ascent to the top.

Voice of driver through intercom: Mr. Show, we are approaching the Steel household.

Thank you. (Turns to Trent) Are you coming inside as well?

No, this ones all yours. Make the company proud.

Showtime steps outside the limo, adjusts his shades, and scrunches his face as he views the Steel home. The lawn is cluttered with junk and patches of dead grass everywhere. The house is dirty with many cracks and dents along the side. Shingles are loose on the roof and two fly off as Showtime walks up the cracked walkway. Showtime gets to the door and rings the bell. A few moments later Trevor opens the door. A flash of anger immediately appears on his face at the sight of Showtime.

Steel: What is it that you want now Showtime? Cause if your just looking to gloat, I’m ready to beat your ass and throw you off my property!

Trev, Trevor, don’t fly off the handle, I just have a couple documents that I need you to sign to put this whole mess behind us. Now if you’ll just invite me in we can get this over with.

There is a long pause between the two. At last, Trevor nods his head and opens the door to let Showtime in. Showtime looks around the living room. He notices the mismatched furniture, the small TV with antenna, the bathroom door curiously off its hinges with broken and missing tiles inside, the guard rail going upstairs missing a few supports, and the chipped walls with small areas of water damage. It reminded him of the first home him and his father lived in when they moved to Hollywood, except for the pictures of father and son that filled Trevor’s home. There were no such pictures in Showtime’s childhood. Nor was there any attempts to fix them as was also apparent at the Steel home.

Trevor leads them into the kitchen, which is filled with appliances that looked like they were from the 80’s. Pots and pans littered the counter and letters and bills covered part of the table. At the table, Damien was eating cereal and Rachele drinking some coffee.

Wait here, I’ll be back in a minute.

Trevor walks off. Rachele senses Trevors anger and puts down the coffee and follows. Showtime and Damien are alone in the kitchen.

Sooooo

Damien: Are... are you...

Showtime David Cougar. Yes, yes I am. No autographs.

No I know who you are. You’re that bad man who’s been stressing Daddy out and making his life miserable.

Well to be fair, I’m just teaching him a lesson about his wrong doings.

Daddy’s doing the best that he can. I know he sometimes makes mistakes, but he tires really hard and he’s the best Dad in the world.

Sonny, wouldn’t you like to live a better life than this.

This is my home and he is my Daddy. Please stop making Daddy upset, he hasn’t been the same for a while. I want my Daddy to be happy again. Dads a good man, please.

Showtime thinks about what he’s done. He looks down at the folder in his hand and folds it. Trevor and Rachele enter the room.

Okay Showtime, let’s get this over with so you can get out of my place.

Trevor, I actually had an ulterior motive when I came here. I don’t have any papers for you to sign... I figured it would be the only way you’d let me into your house.

Then what is it that your after?

Trevor, I’d like to make you a proposition. I want you to work for me.

Work for you?

To be my personal trainer, consultant, and advisor. I have an upcoming match with Big Dave for the EurAsian title and I need to be in the best shape if I want to reclaim my gold. Of course I’ll pay you.

I don’t want your charity Showtime. Me and my family are doing just fine on our own.

Just come to one session at my gym. We’ll talk and see if we can work something out. If not I’ll gladly compensate you for your time. What do ya say on Trevor.

Rachele: We could use the money.

Please Daddy. What have you got to lose.

Trevor ponders the acquisition.

Why Showtime? Why do you want to help me now?

Trevor I see the wrong that I have done. If you’ll allow me, I feel as though I am in a personal debt to you and would like to repay you for it with your help.

Okay man, I’ll go and check it out.

Trevor packs his things and meets Showtime by the door. He hugs Rachele and then bends down to hug his little Damien.

Damien, where are your shades.

I sold them to Billy at school. He gave me more than you paid for them. I wanted to help with your bills Daddy.

Thanks little buddy, but you shouldn’t have to worry about Daddy’s bills, they are Daddy’s problem, not yours. Now we have to get you a new pair of shades.

Here... he can have mine. They’re probably a little big, but I was going to return them anyway cause they were too small so they shouldn’t be too bad for him.

Trevor takes the shades from Showtime, nods, and puts them on his kid. They are a little too big, but they stay up nonetheless. Trevor hugs Damien and him and Showtime walk to the limo. Trevor enters and Showtime pauses for a moment to make a phone call.

Cougar: Best Landscaping, I need your entire team for today, money is no problem. I need you to come to...

----------

Scene opens several hours later. Showtime and Trevor are in the limo driving back from the gym.

What did I tell you Trevor. Bet that felt good to have your muscles relax in the whirlpool after todays workout.

It felt good Showtime. Man I haven’t hit the gym like that in months. And the whirlpool after, I’m lucky to find room in the sauna at the local gym with all the seniors from the complex next door.

Plenty of room in this place. Nutritionists, specialists, onsite masseuse, everything.

It is a lot man, but I don’t know. I still don’t understand where you’re coming from.

Trevor, I see now what I good man you are. You have a boy who worships you. I never had that sort of connection with my father. He didn’t care. You care so much about your son and I’ve made everything difficult for you to keep being that person. I want to make it up to you some how. Also you may not know, but I’m not the most popular person backstage.

I’ve seen a lot of things written about you in the locker rooms. Some I agree with.

I know, so with my match at Redemption coming up against Big Dave I need an ally in case his buddy Karnage decides to mess everything up. Which is why I want to hire you to be my trainer, my consultant... and my friend. I know I haven’t given you much reason before today to trust me, but I’m asking you to trust me now.

Trevor looks down at the contract. The limo pulls up to Trevors home. Trevors jaw drops as he steps out of the limo. His house has been fixed up to look like new. The concrete has been re-paved and the lawn is a gorgeous green.

I payed off a lot of people to come do this for you as a surprise. Plus I have an even bigger surprise. I talked with Bateman and Myles and they’ve approved my request. At Ascension this week, you and I will be teaming to take on Big Dave and Karnage. You wanted to get back into the competitor circle, well you’re right in the thick of it now. So Trevor what do you say.

Trevor looks at the contract, smiles and nods his head.

I’ll sign it man. We are going to tear down the house.

Steel Show will be more powerful than the Iron Curtain.

Clever. I like the name, but not the reference. We don't want to seem like new communists or something.

I know we’ll work on. We got loads of time to come up with better ones.

Trevor signs the contract, the two shake hands, and Trevor heads to his door. Showtime enters the limo and faces directly at the camera in the limo.

That’s right Big D and Criminal K. You two think your on top of the world, well your world is about to come crashing down. At Ascension Dave I’m going to give you a taste of what will come at Redemption, and let me tell you, it won’t be pretty on picture. And Karnage, I know that you have been waiting for this moment since we locked horns in your first official match in WZCW. It’s been bubbling inside of you and at Ascension you’ll get to unleash it, but I am prepared for you much like I was prepared for you back then. You may think that with defeat you improve, and you are correct, but let it be remembered that some things never change and lessons are meant to be learned twice. I will not be stricken off your list because the victory will forever remain, Showtime over Criminal Karnage, and in your wild rage the results will stay the same, Showtime Over Karnage!

Boys your egos are running high since you pulled the cowardly turn on your mentor. Without Ricky, you guys must fancy yourselves now as a World Order, suits and all. Well your World Order is about to run head first into a Takeover. My place is at the top and I will be looking to reclaim my spot one victory after another. You boys stand in my way now, but prepare to be put back into the supporting act. Yours guys moments in the spot light will be over soon and the star of the show will return to center stage. Because I am Showtime David Cougar and I am the present star and future champion of this company. And that is something you boys can’t change the channel on.

Now I have one final bit of surprise that I wanted to announce. This Meltdown we are taking The Show live on the road... live... on Meltdown. And my guest in this monumental episode will be none other than... Big Dave! And you all can expect that there will be more than just words traded between us. Ladies and Gentleman, I am the Show, and my redemption begins at Meltdown. I’ll see you all then.

Trevor is walking past catering with a water bottle in his hand as Leon approaches.

Leon: Hey, Trevor...You got a moment? I want to ask you about your match this week.

Trevor: Match? Oh, yeah. Sorry. Been busy.

Leon: What do you think of your opponents?

Trevor: Uh, who are they? That'd help?

Leon: Karnage and Dave...Don't you know this? I'd think you should, considering WZCW is paying you to show up every week.

Trevor: In case you haven't noticed, I've been a bit preoccupied.

Leon: So, what do you have to say about your opponents?

Trevor: They're tough. It'll be an uphill battle trying to beat them. Who's my partner?

Leon: Er, Showtime. Trevor, you really need to get your head in the game. How are you supposed to have a career here, if you don't know these things?

Trevor: I don't know, Leon Like I said. Been a bit busy. For all I know, this is a set up for a three on one beat down. Maybe Showtime had a change of heart. Doesn't really matter. I'll show up, work my match, and go home.

Leon: On a personal note, how are Damien and Rachele taking everything?

Trevor: Damien's worried. Rachele has some of her own stuff going on. Same ol'...

Leon: I'm worried about you, Trevor. You've never been like this before.

Trevor: How do you want me to be? You tell me, and I'll see what I can do...

Trevor throws down his water bottle and leaves. Leon's hands slump to his sides as he looks on, feeling sorry for his friend.

Becky: No, seriously…

Leon:
I’m sorry.

You seem rather uneasy Becky, and yet just a year ago I was the one showing up late to my interviews.

Well it’s rather late and you call me and Leon out, I really don’t get…

Becky, please save the questions for a few minutes.

Dave and Becky step into an interview suite with an animated WZCW logo flying around in the background. They both sit in opposite chairs as Becky and Dave have a mic attached to their outfits.

So Dave, you must have a lot of questions being asked of you?

Well it’s the life of a WZCW star, you get asked for autographs and pictures no matter the location, you would know that yourself.

I wasn’t talking about that.

Then you must be assuming about my rematch with Showtime.

Well yes, but…

That being said, Showtime must be feeling brave of late, did you hear that he’s personally asked me to appear on a live version of The Show on Meltdown. While I would have considered it an honour before, it will just be a chance for Show to spout out some words before the real beating of his life occurs!

Dave, I need to know what caused you to attack Ricky unprovoked last week

There’s a sudden air of silence in the room as Dave ponders to himself before staring directly as Becky

Unprovoked? You’re saying I attacked Ricky unprovoked?! Did you even watch Ascension last week? That man proved to the world that he was a liar and deemed our actions useless as members of the rWo. This is the second time I’ve had to deal with where a man doesn’t take responsibilities for his actions, especially in regards to Ace. Ricky gave up on the rWo after a guy like Ace and myself, as well as Karnage sacrificed a lot to get his plan going and he sudden bails because he had a change of heart. Well he set the cause and suffered the consequence of that, so before you question whether my actions had justifications, think twice there because Ricky had it coming!

Erm, well either way, I hope Ricky makes a full recovery.

So you can see him get beat up again? I like your ways of thinking Becky

Now before I get on to the situation with you and Showtime, you must be asking questions about Blade?

Blade? What have I got to ask about Blade? He’s simple a guy who can challenge myself or Karnage and try to play the mind games element. Pity thing is that his tactics are just like what happened to him when Mr. Baller debuted in this company, it’s pathetic really. If Blade had any guts, he should challenge one of us head on, he could have faced me at Redemption, but he allows me a chance to demonstrate what I will do to him with Showtime. Fact is, Blade thinks he’s all tough, when so far, he’s all talk. I don’t care if he wants to challenge for my title, because he’ll be easier to beat than Showtime.

Who will no doubt be a challenge in your rematch at Redemption!

As I said last week, Showtime couldn’t beat me when he had the advantage and now that the ball is in my park, he’s got an even tougher challenge ahead, while you have to respect his ability to go for this rematch, his attempts to claim my belt will be futile.

And what do you make of this tag team match where you team with Karnage to face Show and his partner Trevor Steel?

Dave smirks and laughs to himself

Oh how the “mighty” have fallen. Wasn’t this the same Trevor Steel who stood up to the rWo with Titus and Bratchny? Is this the same man who couldn’t capture the Mayhem Title once at Kingdom Come? While that man will be a waste of time, I just will tell Showtime to let Steel in the ring and just walk away, leave Ascension unscathed before you reach Redemption and let Steel take the fall. This isn’t a request, it’s a suggestion because the best idea when you’re in the ring with Karnage and myself is to simply run. Showtime, the situation is clear, either you, Steel or both of you will not walk out of Ascension in one piece. If you to even consider your chances with me, I suggest you do the right thing. I’ll see you at Meltdown to be on your Show to remind you of this warning, lets just hope at Ascension, you’ll listen to it.

Dave gets up with his belt and heads to the door, he opens it but stops before going through

Another time Becky?

He walks out and up the corridor as Becky still looks daunted in her interview chair.

Backstage before Meltdown Trevor is sitting in a locker room. He has just finished seeing Phoenix's interview after watching Karnage's first. He is breathing heavily and very red in the face. He stands up and then starts screaming. He starts banging his fists against lockers and throwing buckets lying around. Showtime David Cougar walks in and attempts to consul Trevor.

Cougar: Trevor calm down man, relax. I mean you don't want to be sued for destroying more property again do y...

Showtime gulps as Trevor eyes lock straight on Showtime.

Okay maybe that wasn't the smart thing to say, but what I'm saying is stop. What's got you worked up?

Steel: Did you see what Karnage and Dave said about me!

Yea I did, I'm sorry man.

The worst part is deep down I know they're right. I haven't been myself lately. I've let some things get to me. I've let some people down.

Trevor... you know who Karnage and Dave fight for? Themselves. You wanna know who I fight for? The viewers. You wanna know who you fight for? Your son. Your son who loves you, and who wants to see you compete and be happy again doing it.

Trevors face lights up at the comment

Karnage and Dave may have the upper hand now, but they will fall down. They only fight for themselves and their own selfish pride, something I'm well aware of. You and me we fight for people; people who care and love us. People who cheer and believe that we can fight and win and god damnit we give it everything we got for those people and we do it for them, not for us.

Trevor stands up and nods his head.

And I know you want to get back at Karnage and show him you're better than the Steel he faced last month and I know you want to show Dave that you could've taken him down at what should've been the end of the leagues matches. Ricky took them out to not stumble into Kingdom Come losing to you and that Reynolds kid who reminds me a tad of myself... Steel, we are going to show them we're more than lambs being led to slaughter. We are going to take the shine off their luster and beat them from one side to the next. At Ascension, The Wo or whatever they go by now, they will be left with doubt.... when they fall... to the Steel Show.

Trevor nods slaps his hand on Showtimes shoulder.

Thanks man, I really needed that. At Ascension we are going to give them everything we got, we will beat them, hell even if what Dave says comes true, I will beat him with my broken arm to beat him if that is what it takes.

That's what I like to hear man, glad to have you back. I'm going to get ready and prepare for tonights show. You know the plan right?

Trevor nods and Showtime leaves the room. Trevor goes to leave soon after, but stops to look at the mirror on his way out. He stares at himself, then says For Damien and then walks out.
