Are there any wrestlers here?

Obviously you probably aren't on TV.

Just curious if anyone on here is an Amateur Pro Wrestler or wrestles at any level? If so what steps did you take?

There are a few fledgling promotions in my area that do shows at community centers, and elks lodges etc. I have always toyed with the idea of getting involved since I have a fairly decent build at 5'11 210.

.....amateur professional wrestler. Take a second and digest that.

Yes, there are people employed in the professional wrestling industry who visit this board. No, being on television doesn't mean you stop visiting the internet, you just don't broadcast to everyone that you play a certain character on television.

Like any other job, first seek out the training in how to do that job. This means either knowing a former professional wrestler who has enough credibility, talent, good will and time to train you on your own, or you're going to have to take your chance at one of the many fine professional wrestling training schools which appear and disappear every three or so years. Spend all the time you can meeting new people and creating contacts; you never know when that shmuck douchebag kid in a locker room is some booker's nephew from another promotion who might say "I know this guy...." It doesn't matter if you can deliver scintillating promos and off-the-wall spots, if a guy doesn't want to put you on stage, you aren't on stage- and below the ROH level, you aren't being brought in to be the show to the crowd, you're being brought in to take up fifteen minutes and get the crowd warm for whatever ten-years-off-television performer the local promotion is bringing in that night.

Your comment about returning superstars from 10 years ago is spot on. I saw this local promotion broadcasting Rick Steiner as their main event draw a few years ago.

What do you look for in a school? Flexibility with your day gig? Credibility? A certain certification?

Thanks.

One where the head trainer is well connected to local promotions. Any asshole can teach you to land flatback and charge you $2500 for it, if you actually want to DO anything you're going to need to know people who can refer you to the people promoting events.

This will cost more money than other schools, because the only thing a professional wrestling school really has to sell is either the connections of the head trainer, or an association with a successful professional wrestler from television.
