Anyone else bored by Takers gimmick?

I was watching his promo last week on SD with Kane and I was nearly falling asleep. For me, its one of the most succesful "cartoon" gimmicks of all time, but now it tires me.

He drones on and on, he moves slow and although his entrance is awesome, seeing it on TV week after week bores me too!!! Although live, yes its brilliant.

This isnt a dig at Mark Calloway, he's one of the most succesful and professional wrestlers ever, I respect him but his gimmick hasnt changed in nearly 7 years. I loved Taker in in the attitude era, they took the shackles off him and gave him a personality. For me, he got even better after his return at Judgement Day as The American Bad Ass, and then Big Evil. His promos were fantastic, he cut his hair, got rid of the "frankenstein gimmick" (I quote Bret Hart on that one) and developed a personality. His promos were funny, and gold...especially the one with David Flair, slumped in the showers.

Taker wont change again, he will go out as The Dead Man, I get that, but he bores me...I find his gimmick unrealistic, childish (ok PG era) and too 1990s. I prefer "real" people like Sheamus, Miz...hell even Cena.

I'm not bored of it, he's not on TV enough for that to happen. Although some changes would be welcome. I call bullshit when people say he's too much of a legend or he's too popular to turn heel. If you're talented enough then you can get fans to react however you wish.

A new look wouldn't go amiss. He's still basically biker Undertaker & Deadman Undertaker mixed together. The only change in the last 6 years is from leather trousers to tights. My suggestion, pink angora.

I find him a bit boring as of late, but that could be because he's a face. I think realistically it's gonna be near impossible to turn him heel because of his legendary status among pretty much everyone. I think the very peak of his gimmick (in entertainment terms) was the Ministry of Darkness, I think he played that character perfectly. Just a shame they had to merge it with the Corporation, I lost a lot of interest in it then. I think he's just been a face far too long and that's why his gimmick is getting stale now, plus they can't push too many boundaries with his character because of the PG rating. I personally think a good heel run would have done him a lot of good, before finally turning face for the period where he's beginning to wind down ready for retirement.

They could always tweak his gimmick to be more realistic, there are plenty of "goth" people still about in society, they could make him more of just a morbid, sadistic old man rather than some weird zombie like creature who wrestles, but that idea would probably need a heel character to work.

Is undertaker really a face? He doesn't really react to the crowd. He's not a complete dick either. Is he only a face cause we cheer him? Anyways...To me, he's not boring what so ever. But that may be because he's been my favorite wrestler since 97 or so. He's got one of the best gimmicks in the wwe. And one of the longest lasting. maybe a few changes might change your mind, but takers not boring what so ever. Imo

he cant possibly go back to the "Big Evil" gimmick,
most of the fans, and kids only know him by the "Undead Wrestler" gimmick.

He should only show up once a year in wrestlemania, thats what I think would be the best for him, and not get him completley exhausted and injured.

i've been bored with Mark's gimmick for a very long time now. i'm not even a bit entertained about any storyline he has been in for the past 4 years. i personally think it time for him to hang it up, because his wrestling is atrocious. His promo is impetuous. I Understand little kids find him entertaining (how ironic) and is the biggest draw on Smackdown, but it looks like Kane is going to be carrying this feud this have.

It's good to see I'm not the only one growing tired of this gimmick. It's too predictable, and, with age, becoming unrealistic. How much longer can his WM streak go before those victories are 100% unbelivable? One? Two?

I was thinking about the possibility of UT having another stable to lead, but I can't imagine who they could have in it that would make any sense.

Maybe it's just time for him to go...

No, I'm not bored with his gimmick, for two reasons:

1. I'm a new fan. I've been watching Taker for 3 years now, and due to the time he takes off (which I spend watching the other wrestlers and older footage) his gimmick hasn't gotten stale with me.

2. I'm a fan of these sort of gimmicks. The Deadman, Sting, Kane, Glacier, etc.... As a religious person, watching these wrestlers make their characters a reality on the tv screen sorta sends a shiver down my spine. Kane talks about being the Devil's favorite Demon? The Ministry of Darkness? Those are the sort of storylines/angles/promos that can really make or break those types of characters for me, and more often than not, they make it.

The rivalry is not boring its taker to me kane fucking owned him friday in they're little spat on smackdown. The undertaker is mad corny nowadays he tried to out evil kane talking about "the devils answers to me with sir" i was like wtf that was laaaaaaaame. It seemed like Kane knew he owned him to i loved how he mocked him with the rest in peace at the end, its a shame Kane had to wait so long to be champ again, I hope he put taker out of his misery and goes on a long run bc i'm tired of this musical chair act with the belt.

I'm not bored by Taker's gimmick. Yeah, I know the whole "I can't die, and I'm going to take your soul" stuff can be a stretch every now and then, but Mark Calaway can still pull it off. Taker can be creepy when he cuts a promo every now and then, and he does a great job at looking the part, so I don't have a problem with this gimmick. I didn't have a problem with The American Bad Ass gimmick, but that character would bore me a lot more than The Deadman ever could.

I think you're an idiot. The only reason that Taker isn't every bit as sick as when he hung Big Boss Man after their HIAC match is the PG era. The problem is nothing to do with Taker, its to do with the PG era. At least taker still has some of the drama of his golden (attitude) era... noone else in the WWE can claim that just now.

I also have found the taker to be boring as of late. What I would like to see is if he picked up some minions to help their boost and have another 'clan'. Just make them all dark like the taker. They could do SO much with it. I'm not saying have 5 or 6 people, maybe 2 or 3 that he goes with and add one at a time. Do something where he has a casket match and a month or so later, have that person walk out with the taker. Yeah, maybe a bit gimmickish, but hell, this is entertainment, not MMA. Have fun with it.

yes im a bored with it truthfully i dont like undertaker anymore because he never puts people over you will always see him come out on top thats why i couldnt give a bleep because in this current feud undertaker will beat kane like he does everyone else and the undertaker does not need it like kane does kane needs to hold the title for like 7 months in my opionion. and you know what i think is funny for the dead man the devils minion i think its funny for saying he takes people to hell that he is a face especially in the new pg era but i hate undertaker. i dont mind his wrestlemania streak but he never puts anyone over and he is always gone. here is whats gonna happen in the feud kane losses the belt to the undertaker who is looking really weak and then undertaker gets injured again for like the 30th time and he drops the belt. kane dosent see it again. then undertaker returns looks really weak and big surprise he wins at wrestlemania again watch i bet you could put undertaker in a 50 on 1 elimanination match in a steel cage against cena, orton, mysterio, all of nexus, kane, sheamus, tripple h and everyone else and somehow he will still win because thats him and thats what he always does.

The Undertaker's gimmick is a bit like Ric Flair's now. Been the same for a long time, but to classic to hate. I think that Undertaker could liven up a bit, true. But he doesn't really need a gimmick change for that. Just needs to talk more about his yard, and talk less about "demons, hell, soul-taking, and other super natural bedtime stories."
Although I did love that line last week. "...and when I call, the Devil still answers me with, Sir!"


It's pretty easy to do that, and still keep the badass entrance, outfit, and the way he carries himself.

That promo last week was okay, but the line "I built his house brick by fiery brick!" was lame. Woulda preferred "I built his kingdom soul by damned soul!"

I'm sorry taker's character is whack right now in ring he's a fucking beast but his character is corny, lame all that shit. You can't compare him to flair he may be the same character but he changes and he's fucking hillarious the best "character in TNA" hogan coulda stayed home. BUt back to the topic undertaker need to get it together bc Kane is carrying shit right now.
