All they need is the silly handshake.

While watching RAW tonight it hit me. Maybe it was the matching colors, maybe it was the similarity of C.M.'s trunks, maybe it was all the comparisons to Hogan that Cena gets. I don't know. What I do know is that tonight, for some reason I was caught in a flashback and was watching the Mega Powers. I'm thinking this time that before their next big feud they really need to make C.M. Punk and John Cena best friends. Have each others backs and take on impossible odds.

As for their eventual break up well, there surely is no Elizabeth at this time so something would have to come between them other then just the title.

Unlike Macho/Hogan, I think it would be best to then turn Cena heel. Having him turn his back on his "friend" and possibly bringing C.M Punk to new heights. If it's done correctly people would definitely feel bad for a guy who lost his best friend.

Another possibility would be to have them each have a championship and after lengthy runs be forced to unify. Making one of them scared to face the other thinking that they are better.

I'm curious to read what others think......Ok I would mark out if they did a variation of the goofy handshake.

I really like the comparison, and I think that would be a good way to get them into a feud. Maybe Cena could be the one to be jealous over the success Punk has had with the title and it drives him crazy until he turns his back on Punk. I would also keep the tag title out of it. I believe Cena and Batista won the tag belts before their match at Summerslam 08. It has been done before and not needed. This is a cool idea though, and wonder what others will think of the comparison.

First off, let's get something straight right here and now - that handshake was all types of awesome. To this day, I mimic it with my best friend whenever we agree on something, usually followed by an "Ohhhh yeah, dig it!" LOL

You know, I reread the post twice and I came to the conclusion - I absolutely love the idea. It fits nicely into the character development of both Cena and Punk if done correctly. Either way you go about it, if the company gets behind it, it could breathe new life into the current story line directions for the company. After MITB last year, I thought if properly fleshed out and allowed to thrive, a feud between either a face Cena and heel Punk or vice versa could potentially headline a Wrestlemania. They brought out the best in each other last year and I could see them doing it again. Your idea would be perfect springboard to reignite the tension between the two. Great idea.

.... I think it would be best to then turn Cena heel. Having him turn his back on his "friend" and possibly bringing C.M Punk to new heights.

It sounds like a good direction, but after last night's show, I wonder if they aren't looking the opposite way; having Punk turn bad.....or at least 'tweener.

Referring to Punk and Cena's conversation in the locker room, you'll note that not only was Punk saying he's grown so much as a leader that his tag partner should follow his lead.....but look whom he's saying it to. It gave me the impression of one of the lesser Miami Heat players absurdly saying:

"LeBron, just follow my lead."

I've been advocating a Cena heel turn for a long time because I think the program would be immense. So far, though, it seems the company is totally against the idea. But Punk is another story; I can see a person who claims to be the best in world allowing himself to become a little too self-impressed and looking for others to fall in line behind him. After all, Punk has led groups of people before, hasn't he? His Straight Edge Society was a big success; perhaps they want to go back to some form of that. But if Punk expects John Cena to join up, we've got the makings of a renewed feud, no matter which one plays the good guy.

Yea I did notice the matching color trunks and thought that was weird. To me CM Punk stands for the wrestlers that don't fit the mold and well Cena is the complete opposite plus CM Punk is still in the love triangle that is AJ. Plus there would have to be a leader to this group there always is, So whoever takes the backseat will have his character damaged. Another thing, there also is no real need right now for them to unite. Unless Big Show wins MITB and cashes it in on Punk wins and then becomes as he says unstoppable then maybe just maybe it would make sense for them to unite. But John Cena is what you get when you combine all the power rangers together he is already Supercena he doesn't need any help

I think some of you are missing the point. There were no leaders in the Mega Powers. Hogan/Cena stood by without the belt for a whole year. And Punk/Cena remind me so much of Macho/Hogan it would work.

These were good times.

I like the idea but they need a big heel team or faction to fued with. it was looking like they could have done this with Johnny ace's wrestlemania team plus tensai, big show, hawkins, recks, etc that were kissing up to johnny ace. Now i dont know who they can fued with but if they do it, it has to be a few months not just now till summerslam.... id say till survivor series

You got all that from that?

Regardless, I do like the idea of this happening, but are you really suggesting a Cena Heel Turn? Dream on sunshine.

I have always wondered where the whole Eddie vs Batista best friend thing was going to go before his untimely death. Maybe WWE really are going for a big star Best friend sort of strategy again. I like it....but I doubt it.
