Alicia Fox is the new Divas Champion? Uh... WTF?

So while the majority of the viewers were taking a pee break, Alicia Fox snagged a pin on Gail Kim to become the new Divas champion for the first time.

Yeah, yeah... I know... you guys don't give a shit about the women's division. But I kinda do, actually. I feel it's made drastic improvements over the past six months, I'm supportive of its positive direction, and I was optimistic about its future... until Alicia won last night. I mean, seriously... did anyone else do a facepalm when she got that pinfall besides me?

I think I see what's going on here. If none of you realized already, title belts are nothing more than props to get their wearer's over with the audience. The belt seemed to have been working for women like Maryse and Eve, so they're trying to do the same thing with Alicia Fox. But there's one problem... Alicia doesn't have any type of character development. At least Maryse was built up as a snotty bitch and Eve was an athletic MMA-esque type character. What the hell is Alicia Fox besides a hip-swinging snob? I fail to see how a title belt would benefit her in any way. She needs something to jump start her gimmick before a belt is thrown on her, don't you think?

PLEASE... DO NOT turn this into a Divas division-bashing thread. Anyone that turns this into a bashing thread without sticking to the original subject of Alicia Fox will be warned/infracted for spamming, since your discussion will be off-topic. Well - I was about to turn this into a divas bashing thread, so warning taken - although I'll come onto that later.

I think with the divas division imparticular, I don't really see it as a competition of wrestling abilities (as much as I was impressed that Eve hit a moonsault). It's good looking women battling for the title. I don't have an enormous problem with that.

My main problem with last night was that (even regarding what I just said) there was credibility with Eve or Maryse winning, because (regardless of ability) they had been built up in the last few weeks. But Alicia hasn't, and it's an issue. Gail had the same issue but her wrestling abilities far outweight the other three.

Most worrying about last night was that we saw some very good women's wrestling on the card - between Natalya and Tamina. That should be the standard of the womens division.

There's one thing I don't like about Alicia Fox, and that's her belly button. Other than that I think she's one of the better women on the roster right now.

Yes, Maryse does have that snotty persona down to a T, however she had that down about two years ago and hasn't improved an inch as a performer or wrestler since.

Eve has an MMA type gimmick? Dude, I thought she was just trying random shit out. I honestly did not know that. Although I think she's infinitely closer to my assessment of ''just trying random shit out'' as opposed to this recently established MMA gimmick I've been hearing so much about.

It was only last October when Alicia was part of a very rare womens wrestling match. Rare because it was simply good. Lofty, I know. But very few women in WWE reach it.

Alicia is the second best female on the roster right now, second only to Layla. Character development? I really don't think Eve had any before the belt was put on her. No biggie.

I like Alicia and If Maryse was not to win I'm glad Alicia did. She can put on a decent match and has a great look. Besides Maryse and LayCool she's the only diva I pay any kind of attention to, so I'm happy for her to have won. Admittedly her character may not be developed fully but I personally see nothing more in Eve's character either. Giving her the belt may help by giving her more tv time to precisely allow her to develop.

Believe it or not, I totally called this match, right down to the winner!

I like Alicia Fox. I know that she has had literally nothing to do over the last couple of months but I do think that she has a lot to offer the Women's division. I was very excited to see her pick up the victory last night and I have a feeling that everyone who has doubted her before and today, may have to rethink their analysis of her. I think she has a lot of talent and could have a good run with the Championship. Perhaps this is the little push that she needs to show us what she has got in the long run.

Last night, I just had a feeling that someone outside of Maryse and Eve Torres was going to win that match. I had a feeling it wouldn't have been Gail Kim, so I went out on a whim and backed Alicia Fox. I know that you have called her characterless, D-Man but I have a feeling that Alicia can run with this and give us an example of she has. Until she won the Championship, I may have just agreed with you but as you have said, having the title worked for Maryse and Eve so maybe it can do the same for Alicia Fox... Or you know, she may fail and go into a deeper hole in the Women's Division.

Either way, I am entirely optimistic about her reign. She may not be the most talented Diva but I am certainly glad the WWE are giving her a fair crack of the whip.

Alicia Fox isn't totally dreadful. She's been trying to work hard and her matches have been decent. I'd prefer to see her win it over another Maryse reign, personally. But what I really would have wanted was for Eve to retain.

I suppose this will lead to a feud with Eve and Gail Kim over the championship. I really don't care. Alicia just doesn't really strike me as the type to have an interesting title reign. Maybe she'll get back with Zack Ryder and he'll win the US Championship. Wishful thinking, I know, but I think that would actually make her more entertaining and raises the possibility of her title reign not being a waste.

Totally neutral on this. I don't hate it, I don't love it...It's just kinda there.

I can't believe they did this. It's utterly rediculous. I thought they just tossed her in to make it a 4-way like the ppv gimmick implied, but nooooo they gave it to a woman that just a few weeks ago was involved in the hiring of a hitman to take out Zack Ryder. I don't see her holding on to the belt for a while. Maybe a few weeks at most.

Very interesting indeed!!!! I kinda had this feeling in the back of my head Ms. Fox was going to win! The Divas division has gotten to be pretty darn predicteable to me anymore. Too bad the Women that can ACTUALLY wrestle well never hold the Diva's title anymore. I was wishing for Gail Kim to win it, but I sadly think her ship has come and gone, as far as the WWE giving her a push again goes. Hopefully when Melina and Beth return things pick up. Oh!, and WWE should learn from last nite, and showcase Natalya and the Samoan lady ALOT more wrestling wise. Those ladies can WRESTLE!

I have no problem with it considering that Alicia Fox can wrestle. Way better then Maryse can wrestle at that. So WWE gets a hand clap for this one. Although I would not of mind if Gail Kim finally won the title or Eve won itg back again. Maryse needs to be let go she cannot wrestle.

i think its a good thing that shes champion she has been putting in some decent matches with gail kim the best of which on the last superstars and there are more faces for her to fight on raw obvs she will now feud with eve and gail for the strap and hopefully it leaves it open for melina to come back and take the belt off a heel

I've been super dissappointed in the Divas division as of lately. The biggest thing is Beth Phoenix and Melina SHOULD NOT be FACE! They are like the best heels. That was the biggest reason I still watched the Divas. And now to see that Alicia Fox, who barely does anything big except for matches on Superstars, is now the Divas champion just makes me even more disappointed. I mean I would have been happy if any of the other divas in that match would've won. Even Gail Kim, because they killed her storyline between her and Maryse when she was Diva's champion. And I honestly don't understand how they can give the title to just any Diva. I miss the old Diva division. I don't think Alicia Fox even meets the standard to be a champion. She has no purpose. Maryse is a bitch. Thats what she does. Laycool are mean girls. Beth Phoenix (used to be) a laid back bitch. Alicia Fox has nothing. So while she is champion, hopefully she finds her purpose.

I was actually surprised that WWE went this way, I certainly wasn't expecting it, because the match-up really seemed like more of a way to continue Eve vs Maryse than anything else, due to them actually being the two that has been made accomplished and legitimate in the past few months time.

Alicia has made some progress, she's been put into storylines with Zack Ryder, and has become slightly more believable, I still think that Maryse or Eve should have walked out the champion during this match.

But, I will not say that I don't like it, Alicia is by by far not my favorite diva, she doesn't really interest me that much, but I do think that Alicia can become more interesting, get some good storylines, and ultimately just like Eve, be build legitimately over the coming weeks / months, all depending on the length of her championship reign.

And I will actually be looking forward to seeing how WWE plans to do this with Alicia, I hope they continue some of the good work they've been building with the Divas division as of late.

Hell yes! The AFox reign is just starting. Very happy that the Foxeh one finally won the butterfly belt. While the WWE hasn't really given her much to do, she is actually a decent wrestler(WWE standards) and is loads better in the ring then the 3 moves of doom(+ a hair flick Maryse)and Eve and her "drop kicks".

Honestly I was shocked, still am, that they put the belt on Alicia. I mean during WM their was rumours that she was getting fired and now she has the belt. And even though it didn't make much sence(since Maryse and Eve were the main feud going into the match)it works well with the fatal 4 way match where anyone can win.

I just really hope and pray she get's a decent reign, is able to feud with Gail Kim(their work on Superstars the last few months put frenchie and eve to shame). And let's give her a better weave while we are at it too.

Ah you beat me to it D-Man. I noticed there was no thread on this interesting turn of events and something had to be done and fast. However I was going to title it 'Alicia Fox's nice ass is our NEW Divas Champion!'

I'm actually very excited about this. Besides having more Fox on my screen, she can actually go in the ring so I'm hoping for some very decent divas matches. I actually enjoy the divas division a lot and I think most of you will too if you do as I do and just pay attention to their matches on Superstars.

I swear management is telling them to suck on RAW and Smackdown because for weeks straight my favourite matches have been the divas bouts on Superstars. Gail Kim, McCool, Fox, Layla, and even Jillian have all put on some amazing shows lately.

I don't see how anybody can complain about the belt finally getting taken off of the botchtastic Eve Torres. She can barely get into a ring without botching it. No really, she runs right into the ropes. I agree Fox doesn't have much of a character but neither does Eve and Fox easily has twice her charisma. In summary, I can not wait to see Miss Alicia Fox shake it down to the ring with her new title in tow tonight.

Well, thank god for the end of the most boring reign EVER... eve... That was a waste of time... she should not have held the title in the first place. And nothing was accomplished afterwards, she is as boring and as sloppy in the ring

With Alicia the new womans champ, they continue to push newer diva's instead of giving it to deserving ones like gail or natalya... BUT, alicia is not bad at all. She is far better then eve and maryse both wrestling wise and entertaining wise. She always has something about her that was interesting. She seels great and has some cool moves because she is so tall. Maryse has become stale for months now and eve has always been boring. Alicia has something interesting with her. Let's hope now with the title, she can build some heat/pops...

In the end, there could have been better moves, but giving it to alicia is FAR BETTER then letting eve keep it or giving it to maryse again.

I had my money down on Maryse, personally; she seemed the most likely candidate to win. I'm not really sure whether or not to classify Alicia as a heel or face at this point. Turning on Zack Ryder would have made her a face;however, that option wouldn't leave her very many options for a feud.

I'm betting WWE will push her as a heel; and probably push her into a program with Eve. Hell, a Maryse face turn might even be a possibility down the line.

Meh, I see Alicia Fox being another Jack Swagger, placing the belt on her to get over rather then actually allowing her to be built up into a position where putting the title on her would have been logical.

But there maybe merits to the WWE's madness.

Gail Kim and Alicia have been having good matches on Superstars and the booking comitte didn't want to give the title to Gail yet, so they will just give it to the next logical choice in Alicia and by placing the belt on her give the two divas time to build there feud up into a match where Gail will eventually win hopefully getting both parties over with the fans.

Both Divas have potential to do something good with this situation i just hope they don't give Alicia random feuds which will fail misrably.

I'm gonna see how this goes and hopefully it will progress into the above outcome and not bomb like Swaggers first (and hopefully not last) reign as world champion.

At least it was surprising D-man, like most of Fatal Four way and hopefully got the concept PPV over.

I don't like Alicia Fox as champion simply because I don't feel there is substance there. It's just no believable to me. I really hoped Gail or Maryse had won, because Maryse is the best heel Diva since heel Trish Stratus and heel Melina.

As far as Divas wrestling ability goes... I believe a lot of Divas can wrestle far better than what they do on TV and I think that they're forced to be toned down, simply because if you go back and watch old Maryse matches, like the one against Michelle McCool where she first became champ, it was a pretty decent match.

Maryse, in my opinion, needs to use her second finisher, the French TKO, because that one is the real exclamation point... if you don't believe me look up Maryse v Beth Phoenix @ Survivor Series traditional Diva's tag match.

I see nothing wrong with Foxy Cleopatra picking up the win (and subsequent title to boot). First, it plays up the whole "anyone can win in a Fatal 4way" gimmick. Second unlike the much deeper male roster there isn't that great of a talent/ability stratification on the women's end. I fully buy/believe that Alicia could win the championship versus just about any female on the roster. Third, as has been said it looks like this is just to help her gain some credibility and establish a bit more persona and depth rather than the Naomi Campbell-esque hip swishing arm candy she's played so far.
Speaking of arm candy, it seems Maryse will be taking on a second role with Ted Jr. so perhaps it was also a way of shifting focus and freeing things up a bit.
Look, I doubt this will be a long reign anyway, so I'm more than content to see how it plays out and hope to be entertained along the way. I hope it keeps the steam the division has been having going and potential adds another serious player to the WWE Diva chess board.
In the end the more legit talent they have the better the division as a whole looks and the more credence can be given to the notion that the WWE ladies are the dominant Divas in all of Sports Entertainment on both sides of the so-called "line".

I could see Alicia getting a push, ever since the Ashton Kutcher/Zack Ryder angle, I had a feeling she might win. I hope tis is a decent reign, I ean, she has been on the rostser for a while, and she did compete in the wrestlemania divas match, so why not give her a shot?

Alicia Fox did get a few wins leading up to the Fatal 4 Way ppv, but had no mic time and didn't have any segments to build her up. What's her motive for pursuing the Diva's Championship? She needs some development and now that she's the Diva's Champion, perhaps she'll just dominate the women over on Raw and just have this cocky type attitude like Maryse does.

Alicia has this thing it seems where she looks at everyone and says "whatever" it seems. It's as almost like she's the black Maryse. She walks down looks at everyone and blows them off. That's not really development, but hopefully something will be done with her. The women's division on Raw seemed to be on the way up and then this happens? Hopefully something good will come out of this.
