Alberto Del Rio Suspended

YOU WILL RESPECT MY AUTHORITAH!!!!
A short time ago, WWE announced that Alberto Del Rio has been suspended for 30 days for his first Wellness Policy violation and that his suspension is set to begin tomorrow, August 18.

It's been widely reported over the past few months that Del Rio has an out clause in his contract for September and that he was unhappy with the spot he's had in WWE for a while now. If I'm not mistaken, Del Rio's current deal with WWE is set to expire in October as well and that it's been speculated that he'll be leaving once it does; at any rate, if any or all of those reports are true, Del Rio will probably be gone before long as he's certainly not going to be pushed any higher up on the card for quite a while given the Wellness Policy violation.

I know there is a lot of Del Rio hate out there...
I actually like his ring work a lot and find him quite underrated.
Yes he doesn't connect for some reason with the general fan but I enjoy his work.
I wish he would quit so he can go to TNA ROH or where ever and actually thrive.... not that being in TNA is thriving much.

Alberto Del Rio is one of the few great top stars WWE has, it baffles me how they use him as a nobody. Taken in the 6th round of the Draft was an unforgiveable insult, Del Rio should have gone MUCH earlier. It's well-reported that ADR is miserable in WWE, and who can blame him? He came back white-hot and pinned John Cena clean, and not three months later he's in a faction that loses to Roman Reigns in Handicap Matches, and then he gets SQUASHED by a complete f***ing nobody like Kalisto half a dozen times. Del Rio should be headlining PPVs in World Championship matches, not putting over low level tag team guys.

He's not very good in the ring, he's not very good speaking English on the microphone, and he really only has one gimmick that's every really worked for him: slightly larger Mexican than the other Mexicans.

He was already doing well on the Indy circuit and in Mexico when he was fired the last time. He was even in RoH doing appearances. He'll go back there and do fine. He just doesn't belong in the WWE.

His gimmick when he first came in WWE was pretty easy to go over. He was rich and claimed to be better then anyone else and he was foreign. On top of that he came to WWE where they desperatly wanted another latino guy to replace Rey Mysterio because of spanish demographics. On top of that he was given more then a fair chance, he won Royal Rumble for cryin outloud. And he still with all of that couldnt get himself over because even if he was good in the ring(wasnt great but he was good) he was just boring as hell. Not that much loss for WWE because aside of his win over Cena when he came back he didnt do anything more noticable. Not that much loss for him because he would do just fine in indys. Aside of maybe losing Paige if they are still dating. That would be hard loss for Del Rio. Or any other man who would tap that pale ass and lose it. :(

The end of Del Rio, being buried by Big Match John.

Well, he hasn't had a character for years, he's been Sheamus' Crony, he's more well known for banging Paige than his title runs, at this point. He's been upset w/ WWE since the brand split (this may of been Total Divas fodder).

all of this aside. I liked Del Rio years ago, but the WWE doesn't have any good uses for him and he's been a bland and boring generic Mexican wrestler for too long.

I honestly miss Ricardo Rodriguez more than I'll miss ADR.

With him being noticeably upset, it's probably best for the company and himself to split here.

i think that this wellness policy suspension is just a reason to explain why del rio isn'T on tv anymore. i wouldn'T be surprise if vince wanted to just have del rio cool down a little bit so that they could re negotiate a new contract with him and maybe get HHH and del rio to make peace since it'S been reported that HHH isn'T a big fan of Del Rio.

I wouldn't be surprise to see del rio coming back either on smackdown or they found a way to traded him to raw and he would get some sort of push after the (suspension).

Look at his physique when his last run ended and his physique when he returned. How does it take so long for these suspensions to come about?

For a guy that has been a multiple time world champion, got fired and sued the company, was welcomed back and is considerably overpaid he complains a lot. Paige could have any guy on the roster and she hooks up with ADR? I'm sure Vince and Co. were not happy about that getting out.

Oh well. I respect Del Rio's in-ring ability but it didn't take long for him to fall back into being the same, bland character after his return that it's hard for me to care much about him leaving again.

Granted his decline wasn't entirely his fault. The League of Nations stint was a death sentence for all involved save for Rusev (and even then it took him months to clean the stench off). Since then he's been the same guy he was before: jerky Mexican guy who hurts arms. WWE has clearly shown zero interest in repackaging him in any way, and I doubt they will now. If the money isn't worth it, Alberto may as well part ways when his contract expires because a wellness violation won't do him any favors given how little he's been doing for months as it is.

It's too bad. As I said before, I think Del Rio is a very good wrestler and could offer a lot more if he's given a face turn or a total character overhaul.

So his girlfriend Paige has also been suspended. Leads me to think it's not roids and a party drug. Lets go with coke.

i think that it's not drug related at all, i just think that they both got punished for their backstage behavior since the draft and they disguise it as a wellness policy suspension especially for paige since if it really was a wellness policy suspension, they would have suspended her before she when for her shoulder surgery.

TOO MANY THREADS AHHH!

Anyway, I assume they (ADR and the pasty one) got caught doing something stupid in their hotel room. If not that, than it's a pretty weird coincidence that both got busted like, 2 hours apart.

Like Lee said, must have been railing that shit.

I think they got too mouthy and this was a warning. If it was me I would have rather been suspended for a disciplinary reason rather than as a drug user.

It does not matter at this point. ADR will be gone by October 1st. Whatever he tested positive for, Paige was positive as well. Probably was Adderall. If it was la cocaina, the media would have caught wind of it, and you would have had a firestorm.

He has a downside guarantee of $1.7 million on his current WWE deal, works a reduced schedule, he's won the biggest Royal Rumble in history, he's won MITB & successfully cashed it in, he's been a 2 time United States Champion and a 4 time World Champion. Del Rio doesn't have a whole helluva lot to complain about in my opinion, but he certainly does complain quite a bit.

I've always enjoyed Del Rio inside the ring, I give him tons of respect for that. However, 6 months after his debut, it became obvious that he was quite limited on the mic and in terms of an on screen persona. To be honest, I'm not really sure why WWE signed Del Rio back in the first place considering that he hasn't been a main event level guy since his return. I mean, considering his pretty sweet deal, one would think that he'd be used further up the card. Still, when it's all said & done, WWE doesn't owe anything to Del Rio whatsoever and vice versa really. Each will get along just fine without the other.

As far as Del Rio wrestling for World Championships go, there's not a whole helluva lot of fans who're overly excited about that prospect. We've seen Del Rio in that spot in years past and it wasn't exactly Must See TV. I don't agree with Del Rio or the rest of the League of Nations getting beaten by Roman Reigns in such a way, it bothers me to see anybody built up like Superman in matches where it's 3 or 4 against 1. As far as Kalisto goes, I didn't see Del Rio get squashed, I saw him have some competitive, fun matches in which the younger guy ultimately went over. I know how much you hate that, but that's often part of how younger stars get over. In Kalisto's case, it didn't really work all that well because he's just not that engaging as a character or on the mic. Or, at least not when it comes to WWE's scripted promos; some guys can shine in that particular light while it handicaps others and Kalisto falls into the latter category.

Vince oversees the drug policy so it will only become public if he chooses.

You keep saying that here and on the Paige thread and I totally disagree. Now I'm not with the WWE and don't have any idea how seriously they take this Wellness Policy, but to use it to suspend someone for non drug related activities would make it a total farce.

If the WWE don't like the way Paige or ADR are acting off screen or on the answer is very simple, just don't use them. The WWE doesn't as we've seen have to give any of their talent a storyline. They could just let ADR and Paige cool their heels in the back, or simply use them as jobber fodder if they wanted.

Paige has been in trouble for her social media antics and that's on her. If ADR got pulled down with it, then that's a shame for him. He chose his bed though now he has to lie in it. I don't think we'll see him back, he's not happy and apparently wants out.

I didn't see this coming. I figured he was a clean guy. I'm sure his match against Cena is probably his last with the WWE.

Del Rio has been a huge flop for the WWE. Some of it is his booking, but the guy lacks charisma and I personally just find him boring. He’s a decent mid card performer.

For shit like Adderall, you have a point. For something illicit like Cocaine? Those things have a habit of leaking.

The testing company works for Vince as they answer to him and he can choose to enforce the policy or not. You are totally correct on it leaking and I think that would piss him off even more.

It would piss him off to the point of Future Endeavoring Paige and Del Rio. Del Rio would have far more problems coming his way. Like, Divorce paperwork from his wife. He is still married, you know.

Hopefully this is the last we see of Alberto Del Rio in the WWE. Truthfully, he has never come close to fulfilling the potential that he had when he first joined up with the company. He has all of the skill in the wrestling ring but he has never truly gotten over in a major way. He is a pretty lacklustre face and a heel that you want to avoid (in a bad way). Totally uninteresting should be the subtitle of his WWE career in both runs. Time to stop putting faith in guys like him and give the time and effort to people who stand a chance.
