Act Smug In a Few Weeks- Survivor Series Tournament

We're in the middle of a fairly rare occurrence in professional wrestling; when an injury at the top of the card has totally blown up any possible plans for the future. Right now, the people writing this stuff have as much of an idea who comes out of Survivor Series as champion as we do. Frequently, we get overbearing threads on this forum from people who were delighted that they could predict an event in professional wrestling, even though these things are usually telegraphed from miles away. There's no possibility of that here. Show off what you think you know.

Here's the skinny- I am going to work from the assumption that this will be, at the least, an 8-man tournament, and that the WWE won't shoehorn together some kind of points series (not really their style). They could go 16 or even 32, but the minimum they could really do would be 8. Pick:

Eight Quarterfinalists: 1 smugness point
Four Semifinalists: 2 smugness points
Two Finalists: 3 smugness points
The Winner: 4 smugness points
Smugness Tiebreak: Does Sheamus cash in on the winner?

No need to list brackets or whom vs. whom, although listing this in bracket form correctly would be a supreme form of Smugness. The winner receives a temporary pass from being criticized as a smug asshole. Good luck!

Placed in bracket form, because why not:

Dean Ambrose vs
Alberto Del Rio
Kevin Owens vs
Cesaro
Roman Reigns vs
Big Show
Bray Wyatt vs
Dolph Ziggler

Semifinalists
Kevin Owens vs
Dean Ambrose
Roman Reigns vs

Finalists
Dean Ambrose
Roman Reigns - winner

Sheamus doesn't cash in at Survivor Series. (He'll cash in on RAW the next night.)

No clue what the matches are going to look like, so I guess I'll just throw my eight into random matches that make the most sense right now:

Dolph Ziggler
Kane
Big Show

Matches: Kane vs The Big Show; Dolph Ziggler vs Kevin Owens; Dean Ambrose vs Cesaro; Roman Reigns vs Ryback

Not what I think will happen; more what I would like to see happen.

Undertaker
Wyatt
.......... BYE/Owens
Owens
Ryback
........................................Owens/Neville
Barrett
Neville
..........Neville/Stardust
Stardust
Cesaro
............................................................Owens/Reigns
Ziggler
Breeze
..........Ambrose/Ziggler
Big E
Ambrose
........................................Ambrose/Reigns
Swagger
Del Rio
..........Del Rio/Reigns
Sheamus
Reigns

Basically tie in all of the budding/on-going feuds into something of a rerun of the Deadly Games tournament in 1998. Wyatt/Taker draw, adding more longevity and depth to their feud, giving Owens a BYE. Neville gets the underdog run, defeating Barrett and Stardust while sporting an injury, only to fall to Owens. Stardust is eliminated when Cesaro returns to avenge his defeat earlier in the night, which was caused by Ascension interference. A similar story with Breeze/Ziggler - the loser of their first round match costs the winner against Ambrose, who advanced at the cost of Big E when New Day are distracted by their next challengers. At the bottom of the bracket, Reigns gets the hero's run through Mr MITB, the US champion and his best buddy in the semis, before then prevailing over a relatively fresh Owens.

Reigns celebrates only to be cut off by...

...under the guise of a title presentation. Only for a belt shot, referee, Pedigree, 1-2-3. 14 time world champion and a decent heel that the majority of the crowd would get behind Reigns against - you know, the corporate baddie being a corporate baddie, not being able to trust anyone else other than himself as the face of the company.

A much poorer version, and more likely, would see Sheamus cashing in to win the title from Reigns, despite being beaten earlier in the night.

Roman Reigns vs. Sheamus

Cesaro vs. Big Show

Ryback vs. Kevin Owens

Dean Ambrose vs. Big E

Semi Finals

Roman Reigns vs. Big Show

Dean Ambrose vs. Kevin Owens

Finals

Roman Reigns vs. Dean Ambrose

Sheamus successfully cashes in on Roman Reigns

Details and final card in the spoilers. And I'm going to be smug anyway when after the show I say my card would have been better.

Sheamus gets intentionally disqualified against Reigns. He beats Reigns down with a chair weakening him for the rest of the night. Reigns is now a kayfabe underdog against Big Show not only because of the size difference but because of the beating from Sheamus. He beats Show anyway and is in rough shape for the finals. Between the semi finals and finals we see Ambrose has been attacked backstage leaving his status for the finals in question. Ambrose makes the finals and he and Reigns are both weak from two matches and the attacks. Regins beats Ambrose and Sheamus comes in to successfully cash in on Reigns. This explains why Sheamus got himself disqualified earlier (although already obvious to us the announcers will sell it) and the next night Sheamus admits to being the one that attacked Ambrose.

Other matches

Undertaker + Kane + Sting + Finn Balor vs.
The Wyatt Family

I know this sounds like wishful thinking but it can happen. Sting is injured but can easily be protected in an 8 man match. Balor is a relative unknown to those that don't watch NXT regularly but NXT is obviously growing in popularity and I think now more people would recognize him than wouldn't. He can be introduced as a mystery partner to round out Undertaker's team just as Undertaker was introduced to us exactly 25 years earlier to the day. His demon gimmick fits in nicely here.

Dolph Ziggler + Jack Swagger + Neville + R Truth vs.
Tyler Breeze + Alberto Del Rio + Stardust + Wade Barrett

I think before the quarter finals on the PPV there will be qualifying matches to get in the tournament. The winners move on to the tournament and the loser go into this match. Some dirty finishes in the qualifiers between feuding wrestlers to end up with this match.

Charolette vs. Paige

The Dudley Boys + The Uso's vs.
Kofi Kingston + Xavier Woods + Prime Time Players

Most likely on the pre show since my card is way too long. I know my card is long anyway even with this on the pre show. Maybe they can get an extra hour like they did for SummerSlam since this is a big four PPV. Don't know how much of an issue that is with cable providers.

Quarterfinals
-Reigns vs. Big Show
-Ambrose vs. Rusev
-Owens vs. Ryback
-ADR vs. Cesaro

Semifinals
Reigns vs. ADR
Ambrose vs. Owens

Finals
Reigns vs. Ambrose

Reigns wins, followed by Sheamus cash in.

That's unfair. This dude doesn't even know Rusev's injured! Of course he's being way 'smugger' than all of us. Pfff.

There's a "Called it" thread for just such an occasion, guys...

But we really can't tell for sure what's going to happen at Survivor Series. The "Called It" thread is for bragging after the fact and is more for stuff like "I told you Steve Austin was going to win the title at WM14."

See if you can guess who my wildcard is:

  1. Roman Reigns versus
  2. Big E
  3. Neville versus
  4. Alberto Del Rio
  5. Dean Ambrose versus
  6. Sheamus
  7. Kevin Owens versus
  8. Dolph Ziggler

And the quarter finals:

  1. Roman Reigns versus
  2. Alberto Del Rio
  3. Dean Ambrose versus
  4. Kevin Owens

And the finals:

  1. Roman Reigns versus
  2. Dean Ambrose

And, considering I was just this morning won round to the idea of a heel turn:

  1. Roman Reigns

I think there not being a Wyatt Family member in the tournament - either Harper or Strowman - is a missed opportunity, but they won't be, and I'd like to see Cesaro in there, but they wouldn't have him beat anyone. I'd love to see Finn Balor compete in a sort of "Alright, the NXT Champion is on par with WWE's elite" acknowledgment, though I guess we already had that.

Sheamus does not cash in.

Nothing about this tournament has been unpredictable so far. I think the final 2 is pretty predictable too. The only question is how the last match plays out and who walks out champion. Predictable booking does not mean bad booking. And even so there's still the question of how it finishes exactly. Most underwhelming for me would be face Reigns winning clean. If that happens I think I'd almost hope for Sheamus to cash in just to get it out of the way.
