Abyss

RKO18

Celtic Warrior
Alright Guys I just crossed the line on January 4th and I have have one question about TNA.

What is the appeal of Abyss?

All I see is a very shitty version of Mick Foley as Mankind except he (Abyss) is a little bigger. His segments are some of the worst I have seen this past month and I dont why Foley loves this guy so much.

I am far from a TNA expert but Abyss to me has gone downhill from where he was a few months back. Last time I saw him he was fueding with Black Rain(Golddust, Dustin Rhodes) and his storylines were somewhat entertaining then. I just think that since Bischoff/Hogan plans arent exactly including him right now. For his size Abyss is quite entertaining in the ring IMO. He is one of those big guys that actually does real well in the ring. Definately a diamond in the rough within TNA's pool of stars, he has just gotten stale over the last 2 months or so.

Abyss was definitely one of TNA's major players in 2002-2005 when he wore all black. He was definitely a talented wrestler for a man of his size, and had a great gimmick before being turned into a joke. He was a NWA World Champion for a period of time, but once he gained some weight after a hiatus he has yet to be given another push to the main event.

Abyss used to be one of the best big men around. He was agile and violent in the ring, he was even good on the mic once he started talking but somewhere song the way someone wrote his character into this wussy, blithering idiot he is now. He's had great matches with just about all the high card guys and he's held the world championship for a bit too, even has awesome theme music and a badass finisher, now he's errr, honestly I have no idea what the hell he is, I just hope something turns him back into mr. Click doomsday

The whole Sting storyline with him being saved by Sting from Father James Mitchell was the beginning of the end for Abyss. One of the best big men I remember seeing in wrestling and he used to actually be an intimidating monster. James Mitchell went a long way in making the character work and acting as manager in the same way Paul Bearer made Undertaker work in the beginning and Armando Estrada did for Umaga. Once he started talking and his "Mother" appeared on Impact things turned to crap. And the white "mental institution" ring gear didn't help either.

Interestingly when I first started watching TNA I used to jokingly call him ManKane. I had no idea they would actually turn him into a more ******ed version of Mick Foley's worst gimmick which of course is Mick Foley in sweats and flannel.

I gotta agree with Tough Guy.

Abyss was amazing until the storyline with Sting. A lot of it had to do with how he never spoke (which could be a reason why he's not doing so hot on the mic), and had James Mitchell, an amazing manager, as his voice box.

What I'm hoping for is Abyss to turn on Foley, and have a feud that just gets down right obscene. It's the only thing that can save Abyss, considering, like Mick Foley, his entire career has been hardcore matches. Guys like Flair and Angle can't pass the torch to him, only Foley can (they failed with Richards/Raven).

Abyss seems to be worse than Kane at the moment (at least Kane is still evil and pyschotic even if he is jobbing) Abyss seems to have a problem with medication, he's become childlike (clapping his hands in that wierd way and talking like a ten year old) The only way to bring Abyss back in my opinion is to bring back James Mitchell (optional) and make him a pyscho again (he needs this to be interesting) Have him attack someone and brutally beat them

Abyss vs AJ styles brought bout the fire in me to become a TNA FAN. I feel if Abyss is used in the right way, he will once again return to stardom

he had great gimmick especially when he wore black fueding with Styles and the Horror Era of TNA was great then when he wore white and teamed with Morgan he was alright then the push he gave Morgan was good then he was nothing with that Mick Foley mess.

Maybe, Bischoff and Hogan dont look at Abyss right cause he is one that has great ability and segments were great he could have sorta pulled off a Taker from 1997 to 1999 of that real scary intimtding monster.

Abyss definitely had more appeal 5 years ago because he was fresh and mysterious. He was a monster who would do anything and I enjoyed watching his matches. Now, he's like a supersized version of Santino Marella......LOL

side note, when did he start talking? I stopped watching TNA awhile ago, but gave it a try last night again and saw Abyss talking to JB? I never heard him speak before......LOL

Bishoff and Hogan only had great things to say about Abyss on the radio last week. They said that he is dedicated and a team player. I think they said he was their favorite on the roster.

Appeal? Well size, agility, and power go a long way. We've seen in the past that he can be a major player. I think that they need to take Abyss back to his roots. Some people like his gentle giant persona, but he has the potential to go in a direction similar to the Undertaker.

Make him mysterious, dark, evil. He should only speak when he has something very important to say...that will create a sense of drama.

Abyss' appeal is dropping as the second coming of Mankind.

Abyss- Hit the gym, cut back on the cigarrettes, lose the stupid orange and white jumpsuits, lose the flannel, and plead your case to be The Monster again. That is were his appeal lies.

Abyss really had some good appeal 2 years ago.Now abyss really just cracks me up.This guy is a hardcore legend Abyss really show TNA what hardcore is all about. As for right now i really dont know were micks and eric storylines is going maybe they will have a tag team match next week or in there next ppv mick/nash/abyss vs eric/hall/shawn.But i really wana see Abyss to make a huge comeback thats if eric and hogan lets him.

Abyss is one of the few guys on the roster I actually like. He is huge, can move well, and can make his opponent look good while still being dominant.

That being said, he is a horrible, horrible joke at the moment. He's gone from being a tremendously over and dominant heel to a "comical" Eugene knock off.

Simply put, Abyss needs to be a monster heel, or have a complete gimmick change. When a guy like Abyss has a scene with JB in the back, and JB comes off as the tough guy, something is horribly, horribly wrong.

Personally I'd pull him off TV for a bit, and then have him come back as The Bisch's hit man. Keep him the hell away from the mic, keep him out of title matches. He is strictly there to rip people apart at The Bisch's command. Cement him as a heel by having him absolutely decimate Mick Foley, maybe in front of Mick's family.

Hell, let's attach Daffney as his "handler" too. She's ******edly hot and not on TV nearly enough.

Drew, what orange and white jumpsuits are you speaking of?

I think Abyss has no doubt gone downhill a bit. However I almost see this new feud with Bischof/Foley to be having an effect of Abyss. Normally he would just be frightened but now in the recent weeks he's begaun to pull at his hair, get more violent and just more and more disturbed. I have a feeling this is setting up for an Abyss heel turn sooner or later with The Monster turning on Foley and going back to being the badass killer he was a few years back.

Schizophrenic

They had Abyss in an all white outfit that said "Parks," his last name, on the back (his mental hospital outfit). And I could swear that that had him in an orange one at some point.

It was a while back, but I think that's when the decline of his character began.

Sorry for the confusion

Abyss used to be a badass and was always over more as a Monster Heel than as a babyface. Once he turned face and was feuding with Mitchell a few years ago he has gone downhill. TNA really dropped the ball with his return after being attacked and beaten by Christian and his group. The whole return with the psychotic asylum attire and "Dr Stevie" were a joke and made no sense at all. I really wish he would turn heel and go back to being theMonster that he once was but with Tna having too many heels on the roster already a face Abyss can work really well if put into a serious storyline and drops the crying, emotional crap. A personal feud with someone like Daniels could really ignite him and allow him to show his agility and in ring skill. TNA needs to treat him like hte Undertaker when he was a top face druing the 90s, as someone who comes across as unstoppable and dark but not heel. A Daniels feud could really build him up if done right with Daniels attacking him and maybe even aligning Tomko with Daniels as some sort of extra muscle to assist him.

Abyss is closer to Kane than Mankind, and it's a shame no one realizes that. He's got the size to be intimidating, no matter his role, and he does nothing but put over future champions.

He has his ups and downs (he's currently in a "down", obviously), but he always rises back up to the top. He's shown flashes of it during his last few matches (since tapping twice, consecutively), and it's only a matter of time before he's bloodying someone's face, and breaking their bodies in half.

Have to agree with all the comments about Abyss being down.

Hell, I'd even go so far as to let Foley turn on Abyss and put him off tv for a month or so. Then have him come back as the Monster Abyss, in all black, with Mitchell doing the talking again.

But my question is, why does he have to be heel or face? Why can't he walk that line as the "Monster", and just really go against whoever gets in his way? That leaves him open to feud with everyone.

The matches he's capable of, and what he's willing to do, there's no doubt he's the best big man in wrestling right now. He just needs the push to prove it.
