A New Type Of Heel...

Occasional Pre-Show
Over the years, we have seen two types of heels.

A) the coward heel, never gets a clean victory and cheats his way to the top
B) the monster heel, usually a large man, who dominates jobbers then moves onto bigger stars and beats them through pure force

i am here to propose to you a new type of heel, a type C if you will. Which, to my knowledge, hasn't been done, or hasn't been done enough.

I believe that a heel who talks tough, gives it all of the chat, saying he is going to go out tonight as beat *enter faces name here" that you, the crowd, love, and im going to do it right infront of you. To maintain heat he could still do normal heel acts, like insult the crowd, call them sheep, followers etc. saying they just tag along to the good guys. say i dont care about you, i care about winning.

he could then go out in the match, and technically outwrestle, and beat (not dominate, like a monster heel) but outwrestle the face, and pick up the win. he would not have any interference and wouldnt do dirty pins (holding tights etc), he would simply be a heel getting clean victorys, and generally being arrogant about it, defeating the top faces.

So my questions to you are:
do you think this could work as a new type of heel
has this ever happend in the past, if so with who? if not, who was the closest to this
who could you see in todays wrestling portraying this heel

I do believe this could work

This has happen before & I want to say it was w/HHH he just wasn't that heel all the time, but I do remember him talking bad about a face & just going out there & getting it done, but I could be getting his face runs mixed up w/his heel runs. Please someone correct me if I'm wrong.

who could you see in todays wrestling portraying this heel

IMO CM Punk, the man really doesn't need to lead a group just to get over the only benefit I see to him leading Nexus is that they can learn from him cause he is pretty good.

Drew McIntyre The guy has the look of a champ & if he was that kind of heel he could be a beast.

Alberto Del Rio he has the ego that fits that type of heel.

Dolph Ziggler Vickie can do the talking & he can do the walking

Kofi Kingston I picked him cause I believe to jump to main event status he needs more of a mean streak & if he was this kind of heel he could be a believable Main Eventer

David Otunga MAYBE?

Sheamus did this kind of heel when he first started so did Barrett on NXT, Even Del Rio when he doesnt hceat to win does this. Nowadays its more of something that just happens instead of its own character.

This doesn't really work as a long term option. If a heel just wins because they are better than the faces, they will make the faces look bad. Ultimately wrestling is about the faces overcoming the heels at the end, and when a heel wins, they only do so in preparation for losing to a bigger face further down the road. A heel like this could only beat the faces by making them look bad, and as they are the ones the company is built around and the ones that sell the merchandise, you'd be shooting yourself in the foot. Any heel like this would have a short shelf life unless they adapted, much like monster heels. It's true to say Sheamus was arguably booked like this, but it is clear that he is losing momentum. That's why this wouldn't work in a nutshell.

Or maybe they're just that formidable, and thus the face who finally does defeat him will get over huge.

Have you not seen this before in other forms of media?

Think outside the box, people.

You think we fit in a box? It's not that we don't think big. It's just that we think rationally. The role exists already. It's called a "tweener". Made to look as physically capable as a face and as antagonizing as a heel. It's a temporary role wrestlers undertake to establish a revamped persona without totally abandoning their previous one giving the fans time to adapt to the new persona and such.

Any way, you know what happens when a heel is dominant and good? He turns face. Being good draw the appeal of being... I don't know... good. Groundbreaking, I know. But the crowd tends to like the guy who can wrestle. What? You think heels draw heat just because they're assholes? No. It's because they're asshole's who don't play on equal ground and get away with it.

Stone Cold was this type of heel when he was moving up the ranks and feuding with guys like Bret Hart. Kurt Angle was also great at this. He knew he could beat any man, but was so annoying... he was performing this role perfectly during the Triple H/Steph love triangle...
