A new day for the New Day?

HiddenInPlainView

Occasional Pre-Show
On last night's Raw the New Day hinted at somewhat of a heel turn on the horizon. The whole "we clap so we don't snap" definitely hinted at this. Big E talking about the fans moved it along. When the idea of them being put together as a modern day Nation of Domination, i think alot of fans were solidly behind it. Instead they were packaged as an awful stereotype of clapping southern black preachers.

I would love to see them turn heel and do the whole Nation thing. Maybe have Ron Simmons come out and stand on the stage during one of their matches. After they lose, they are shown clapping and being positive in the ring. They then notice Ron on the stage and he looks on disapprovingly. He then puts on the hat that he wore as Farooq and turns his back to them and walks away. In a backstage interview with any wrestler, we see in the background Xavier Wood being admonished by Ron Simmons. As the camera focuses in on this Woods calls him Ron and he gets blasted and then stands over top of him and tells him "My name is Farooq". We then get Woods slowly getting back to the character that he was when he talked to Kofi and Big E in the ring many months ago. He begins to getting mad whenever Kofi and Big E start clapping. Eventually Farooq and Woods confront Kofi and get him to see their ways. Big E doesn't come around so easily and they attack him after a match. Eventually Big E sees the light and embraces the new Nation of Domination.

Any other ideas for salvaging New Day?

I was never a Big Fan of the new Day!! Something needs to change for this group, because no one is buying this trio at all.. I dont think they're buying it themselves. Like SCSA said, you have to believe in your character for the audience to believe in you.

If you dont believe how in the hell do you expect others to buy into what your selling? Some have pointed out on here a slight tweak in Kofi's character and I agree it be nice to see... We all originally thought this group would be thought as a new Nation of Domination 2.0 or at least some of us thought that anyway.. Something has to happen with this group before they all go their separate ways again

They're not intimidating enough to be a new version of the NOD. Woods and Kingston's faces are too friendly, Big E. Looks utterly ridiculous. I think a heel version would be more of a flop than the current incarnation.

Just change the gimmick a bit. Make them less black or something.

The Beat Down Clan over in TNA is made up of non white wrestlers who just happen to want to be top dogs and rule everything. Not once do I remember them bringing race up in their entire duration unless you count Kenny King making a quip or two about something.

For The New Day to be worth a shit they just need to do that. Have them say how they're better than everyone. Kofi says he's better than Adrian Neville, Tyson Kidd as a high flyer. Big E says he's better than Cesaro and Ryback as muscle. Xavier Woods says something/someone he's better than and there you have it. Nothing has to be said about race or have a stereotypical type thing related to race at all. Three guys who reckon they're better than other guys on the roster and want the recognition for it. Gimmick done with built in feud material.

There's not much you can do with that gimmick other than use the heel tactics and front like you are super positive. That would be closer to most Southern preachers than what they are doing now. Big E as the muscle has shown that he can be both a heel and a face. Kofi would make an awesome heel if he ever pulled the trigger on it. Woods, in my opinion, is the only question mark. It's not whether he can make a great heel or not, but his in ring talent and his mic skills do really add up to being anything successful.

Whatever happens, keep race the hell out of it. Race is a hot button issues right now and it makes for bad TV. A new NOD would be a disaster. Keep Ron Simmons at home, bring him in for a damn now and then. Let New Day be New Day. They looked awesome when they worked as heels on the C and D shows. Kofi hit some top rope move while Big E held the victim over his knee. It looked devastating and Woods directing traffic really sold the whole thing.

The Nation of Domination was what it was and worked for a time. It would be awful in today's sociopolitical climate. It could see these men go the way of Muhammad Hassan, off TV and out the company. It's not going to happen and it won't draw a dime. Stop suggesting it.

The idea of a heel Kofi I find exciting. I think he can sell a mean streak. Keep the matching outfits, hell keep the music. Keep the chants. I think Big E should consider adding some knee pads and/or losing the singlet. His ring attire makes him look kind of goofy and non threatening. Pads made Cody and Cesaro look a lot better. Big E is massive and his ring attire should sell that.

These guys should be finding their own path. If they were the sons of NOD or had some kind of tangible connection other than being black dudes, maybe. The just need to be me, conniving, and cruel. Look at what Sheamus is doing. They can take this gimmick of the power of positivity, the power of the new day, and start running down the crowd for not getting behind them. Throw in some power moves and have them abuse the Freebird Rule and I think we have the makings of a great heel team.

Doesn't matter whether you're white, black, blue, green or polka dot, New Day is a horrible gimmick and hasn't worked. Turning them heel won't either, as Kofi Kingston is about as far from a heel as you can get.

They would be much better off just disbanding the group and coming up with something else. Fans are booing them not because they don't like the wrestlers, they just hate the gimmick. Get rid of it.

They don't need to recycle The Nation. They can just be heels. No need to bring back old ideas. There's a reason why The Nation isn't mentioned in the same sentence as Four Horsemen, nWo, DX as great stables.
