Life's A Bitch, And Then You Mosh
Over the last week or so, my TV has been inundated with trailers for this new movie coming out. It's animated, but it certainly isn't your typical cartoon. Instead of being puppies and flowers like Disney, it looks like a post-apocalyptic cartoon, leaving 9 (duh!) people (are they people) left to save the planet.

I know I'm probably way off, but that's what I've gathered from the trailer. I'm considering going to see it in the theatre, but don't know if I'll have time and/or money.

Your thoughts?

I think it looks pretty damn good as well NSL. I followed this project when it first got on it's feet, but humorously enough I didn't realize it was going to be an animated film until after I had lost interest and finally saw the trailer while going to see District 9. I thought this film was going to be real people, so when I discovered it was going to be animated...well I was kind of pissed.

Now that I've been seeing the steady stream of TV spots and trailers though, I think I may have to give this film a shot as well. Tim Burton is producing, so that's always a plus. At the very least the film should be visually stunning, the writer/director of the film (Shane Acker) worked on the effects in the third Lord of the Rings film. Anyways, for those who don't know (and I didn't until recently), this film is being adapted from a short film of the same name that Acker made in 2005, which won the Academy Award for Best Animated Short. Here it is in all it's glory:

The Original Short Film

Seeing the short film definitely has piqued my interest on this feature length adaptation.

I had heard about 9 back in maybe February or March, I forgot the exact time frame. I saw the little teaser they had for it, and thought it looked really cool and interesting. They aren't people NSL, they are "stitchpunks". I don't know exactly what that is though.

I am looking forward to this movie coming out, and I definitely plan on seeing it maybe next Friday if I can wrangle a few other friends of mine. If I can't get anyone, well I'll be a lonely guy in the theater. I don't know what has me drawn to it, maybe just the fact that it is by Tim Burton, and it doesn't look too much like his work with Charlie and the Chocolate Factory or anything else. It just looks different, which has me psyched.

They caught me when I saw the trailer and it had Coheed and Cambria's "Welcome Home" as the soundtrack for the trailer. It fit perfectly, considering the songs by Coheed and Cambria have been geared toward a very near apocalyptic world.

Once you get past my fanboy-ness, the movie has a clear premise. A war has ravaged the world, and a scientist uses the last of his life force to bring life to 9 dolls, or stitchpunks. These stitchpunks each possess differing personalities, and are essentially the last reserves of the humanity that was lost after the great war between Man and Machine.

Past that, I'm cloudy on the purpose of the film. I refuse to watch the short film, I'm afraid it will spoil some awesome for me. I'm thinking it has to do with 9 seeking the meaning of life, though.

Tim Burton produces, and you know he won't put his name on anything he isn't proud of. So if you like Burton's work, as I do (bar that horror that is Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Revolting.), you should like this. The voice cast is really varied, including Jennifer Connelly, Elijah Wood, and John motherfucking C. Reilly.

This should be good. In fact, I'm watching it this Wednesday with APO. Ohhh yeah.

Yeah that sounds about right. If you saw the trailer with that Coheed song it definitely looks pretty badass. Plus Tim Burton's one of the producers on it, so it should be pretty decent. Even though Sweeny Todd was pretty bad.

I personally loved the movie. I wish Glover's character 6 had more screen time but whatever all in all it was good.
I didn't really notice the acting so I'm gonna say it was average with Plummer and Riley being great as siad before. Wood was ok compared to the average actor, but compared to his previous movies he was crap.
My favorite part though was the characters especially 6, 4, 5, and 1, they were very interesting, 4 and 5 not talking and having film projectors as eyes, 6 being an anti-socialish artist, and 1 being a total ass, he did make me want to just kill him as you find out more about him.
The animation was beautiful and seamless (no pun intended), especially teh dols how they all had different things they were made of from 9 being a work of art to 5 having a metal plat over one of his eyes. The bad guys were vey interesting to look at especially B.R.A.I.N. who near the end reminded me of the alien queen.
I found the plot was more of here's a group of doll's trying to survive in a post-apocalyptic world. which is inteeresting but beyond that teh plot wasn't much until the end.
I give it a 3.5 stars out of five it was above average, but not great.
