Ok, I hate the Beastie Boys and I like Firehouse. But I'm a subjective person and I realize that this shouldn't even be a close race. The Beastie Boys have been a huge influence on both hip hop and alternative rock music over the past 20 years. Firehouse...well, they had a few catchy tunes. I don't like 'em, but my vote goes to the Beastie Boys.

I am with you 100%. I mean, the Beasties are ok, I still drum the steering wheel when Sabotage comes on, but I prefer Firehouse's music. It's till not a contest. I prefer Warrant to Nirvana, doesn't mean that's how my vote would go.

When white rap fans fawn over Eminem as an innovator, I always make sure to point out the Beastie Boys and a real "ahead of the curve" kind of group. Definately not the originators, but the influence is there. In fact, you could likely trace a lot of nu metal and rap rock to Mike D. and Company.

The Beasties win this easy just on the strength of "License to Ill."

That is a very good point. The Beastie's were able to break down walls for white hip hop artists such as Eminem. They were very innovative for their time and continue to be relavent. Critics drool all over themselves every time they release a new album.

And for the record, I prefer Warrant over Nirvana, too. :)

FireHouse is just being absolutely raped right now by the Beastie Boys, and deservedly so. What else can I add to the mix here that hasn't already been said about the Beasties? Ah yes, I know.

First, try to keep in mind when listening to a song like "Fight For Your Right to Party" that the Beastie Boys came out of and originally played hardcore punk. I love thinking about that and how drastic of a departure they made.

Now, everyone knows and loves Licensed to Ill, but not many people remember or love Paul's Boutique which is simply their best album hands-down. This album almost single-handedly inacted laws into having to pay royalities to sample other artist's music. They sampled literally thousands of records and added them in subtle touches all over the record and in big chunks on some songs. This album was simply revolutionary, and virtually laid all the foundations for the Big Beat genre of bands like Fatboy Slim, artists who would mix all different clips of music into a new melody that was breathtaking. It all starts there.

FireHouse...well they sucked. Not really much more to say there.

When I read this matchup I said Firehouse but after reading the arguments I have to admit you'll are right. Ten years from now will anyone remember a Firehouse song besides Love of a Lifetime proably not but everyone will remember Fight for your Right(I remember seeing a tag team that came out to that along the same time of the rock-n-roll express but I can't remember there names, back to my point though Saboatage wil also be remember along with the License to Ill album. I echo the point that I like Firehouse better along with Warrant ( I never liked Nirvana).
