25 years on

Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No it's Supermod!
As it's 13th September in Japan now I think it's time I bigged this up.

On September 13th 1985 Super Mario Bros was released, making his fifth appearance in a video game this was something special, joined by his brother Luigi for the third time we finally got to see the Mushroom Kingdom. I say finally, it was never even mentioned before this. Needless to say it changed video games forever.

What are your memories of Super Mario Bros. 1?

When did you first play the game?

Do you still play it today?

Do you agree that it saved video gaming?

How has Mario had such a lasting appeal?

The first time I played Super Mario Brothers I was a very young age. The game had been out for a good while before I was born but my parents still had the Nintendo Entertainment System from their youth. I first played the game that also had Duck Hunt included at only the age of either three or four years of age. From what I remember I believe I was three though. I played it and just remember being mesmerized by what I was seeing. It was all sorts of awesome and thats when my love for video games started on that very day. From that point on my interest in Nintendo and Mario went right up. I was very much attached to the original game and console that when it finally broke down for good it was a little saddening for me. But it opened my parents to get the follow up Super Nintendo Entertainment System from some friends of theirs to replace the old console.

From the new console I then found my ultimate love in the form of Mario when I played Super Mario World. What a classic, with so many secrets, funny levels, and challenging moments and bosses, there hasn't been a game since that has had such a lasting impression on me. Then of course as time went on I ended up getting the old set of NES games in the Super Mario All Stars set for the SNES. And of course I followed Nintendo into their next systems from the Nintendo 64 until the Wii.

The Mario series is one of the most respected and well known gaming series in the whole world. It saved the gaming industry and personally got me into gaming. My favorite Mario game maybe Super Mario World but if it wasn't my playing of the original platforming game for the NES my interest in Mario and Nintendo would have never begun, perhaps even my entire interest in gaming. I have all of this to thank because of Super Mario Brothers. A classic game that will go down in history as perhaps the greatest of all time. Happy 25th anniversary fellow fans!

I pushed this a lot in the debate the other week, but it deserve repeating. Without a doubt, Mario, Nintendo, the NES, everything Nintendo in the last five years of the 80's did defined gaming as it should be and with it, formed the base of the gaming industry as it stands today.

It's pretty amazing to think that a fat plumber has been the face of computer games for 25 years. Only Ninty could do it, given that the Mario platformers are pretty much sit atop the genre when it comes to quality.

I was born way after Super Mario Bros 1 came out. Even still, I was exposed to it due to a Super Nintendo and a copy of "Super Mario All Stars". At the time, I was about 4 years old. Super Mario Bros. 1, without a doubt, was the first game I ever played. I still remember that I would always end up dying at the hands of Lakitu and/or the Hammer Bros.---foes that I could never kill without haviing a fire flower. No matter how old I grew, I never grew tired of it. Even to this day, I still play the game every single time I have the chance.

Super Mario Bros was a revolution that brought many hit games through its enourmess popularity including its more than popular sequels (SMB 2, 3) and of course, Super Mario World.

With all the popularity The Super Mario Bors. series gained, it gave birth to many "Five star quality" games such as Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, and Of course, Super Mario Galaxy 1 & 2. Not only that, but with the much success Mario and his games obtained came forth popular Mario series known to the world as the Mario Kart Series and the Mario Party Series

It goes without saying that Mario is without a doubt, the greatest, most respected video game character that was ever created. Mario and his games revolutionized the video game industry giving it more popularity than anybody could have ever dreamed of. I always believed that Mario was the video game character version of Hulk Hogan and I am not afraid to support that idea. Mario is a video game character that will have its legacy carried out for many years to come. Mario, the Italian plumber that will never die. He will live forever...in our hearts...
