YOU WILL RESPECT MY AUTHORITAH!!!!
It's that time of year again. Some people look forward to it and some hate it with a passion. Next week's episode of Raw, which is also the go home Raw to TLC, will see the return of the Slammy Awards.
Personally, I tend to fall more into the latter category since the Slammy Awards mean nothing, the show itself features a lot of lousy award presentation segments, there's usually some extremely lame comedy involved and there way too many joke Slammy categories to further reinforce the notion of just how little they mean. All that put together makes so much the show feel little more than waste of time. I'd rather see a ton of final hype for TLC, some good promo segments and wrestling matches. You know, the stuff that 99% of fans actually do care about seeing.
With that said, I'm more hopeful than I normally am regarding the Slammy Awards as there aren't very many joking categories. The list of awards this year is as follows:
Superstar of the Year
Extreme Moment of the Year
Insult of the Year
Double-Cross of the Year
This is Awesome! Moment of the Year
"Total Diva" of the Year
LOL! Moment of the Year
Match of the Year
Aside from the LOL! Moment of the Year Slammy, there really aren't any lame comedy awards. There are no "Facial Hair of the Year" or "Kiss of the Year" or "Best Dancer of the Year" or "#Trending Now of the Year" crap going on. For the most part, If you take out the laugh out loud award, the category titles sound pretty legit.
Superstar of the Year will probably be either Cena, Orton or Bryan
Extreme Moment of the Year is pretty up in the air. It could be what's replacing the "Holy $#!+ Move of the Year" or the "OMG Moment of the Year" category.
Insult of the Year, off the top of my head, might go to Punk for referring to Kane as "The Big Red Ass-Kisser." Either that or something that Cena & Rock said to each other earlier in the year.
Double-Cross of the Year will go to either Triple H for screwing Bryan at SummerSlam or Shawn Michaels for screwing Bryan over at Hell in a Cell.
The This is Awesome! Moment of the Year might also be a replacement for either the move of the year or OMG moment.
The "Total Diva" of the Year will probably be Brie Bella in order to drive a wedge between her & Nikki. There was a tout segment that's up on various websites that show's a little dissention between them when Nikki asks why Brie tagged in Natalya rather than her in their match last night. If it was a legit award, it'd be AJ taking the trophy.
The LOL! Moment of the Year is anybody's guess. I'm personally leaning towards Bryan shaving off half of Wade Barrett's beard during the Corporate Makeover segment. Maybe it's just me, but the sound of the clippers buzzing against Barrett's face and Barrett flailing about trying to get away made me picture the scene in an old school cartoon. You know, the kind that actually had beloved characters and didn't have to resort to fart & puke jokes to be funny.
Match of the Year will probably go to Cena vs. Rock II, though it shouldn't. Bryan vs. Punk on the February 25th episode of Raw, Taker vs. Punk at WM 29, any number of matches involving The Shield, Cena vs. Bryan at SummerSlam, Bryan vs. Orton at NOC, etc. were all much better matches in my opinion.
