100 greatest moments

By watching Muslims get beaten up... after attacking a ******?
So, because he's Muslim and gets beaten up it's racism?

Fine. Everytime Booker T beats up a white guy, I'm going to claim racism. Everytime a Canadian pins an American, I'm calling racism. Every time William Regal tells Kofi Kingston to do something, i'm calling racism.

C'mon Sam. This is pro wrestling. Everyone gets beaten up, and the whole purpose for it is to entertain the fans.

Yes.

Yea Wes, I knew that when I posted the Angle/HBK comment. Sam and I have banded together for the cause of Kurt Angle against Sly. becuase you know. Wrestling can ONLY go ONE WAY, and if it DOESNT then its NOT good.

NOT

GOOD

No, wrestling can go many ways.

As long as the way is logical, realistic, believable and makes sense.

Unfortunately, that doesn't describe a Kurt Angle match.

seriously IS THERE a moment that screams WrestleMania more than some muslims attacking a ******, and then having their asses whipped by Hulk Hogan??

I say no.

So, because he's Muslim and gets beaten up it's racism?

No, because of the circumstances of him getting beaten up it's racism. Hulk Hogan in this situation represents America. The Muslims... Muslimstan, or wherever the crowd seemed to think they came from.

Is Booker T a walking black power group?

C'mon Sam. This is pro wrestling. Everyone gets beaten up, and the whole purpose for it is to entertain the fans.

And to make Muslims look like villains that attack ******s. And Triple H.

Maybeee, I don't know, can you re-peat the question?

Muslims get beaten up by Hulk Hogan after attacking a ******. He's a real American, he fights for the rights of every white man.

Quote that.

Sly u cant seriously try to imply that those characters, particularly givent the world events of the time, and the people involved werent suppose to invoke feelings of racial tension??? I can openly admit it was a race based thing. Just not the first time it happened tho. And thats what those guys were SUPPOSED to be anyway. And they were fucking excellent at it.

So, in an American based promotion, in front of American fans, a recently inducted Hall of Famer comes out and beats up a bad guy who has derided Americans for months is now racist?

You're stretching.

It's called face vs. heel, and giving the fans a good show.

Is Booker T a walking black power group?
Is Hogan?

And to make Muslims look like villains that attack ******s. And Triple H.
No, the heel was merely beating up "the child". It's a scenario that has played out many times before and after.

Maybeee, I don't know, can you re-peat the question?
Hogan was the greatest part of WM21.
Alright Sly. I'm sure you'll gladly oblige: how does the match not make sense?
I haven't seen the match in a while, remind me later and I'll watch it and point it out.

It was an angle designed to give fans a great show, where the good guy Hall of Fame face came out to save the pitiful "child" from the evil heel.

It was designed to make Americans proud, not to portray a Muslim in a negative light, at least no more so than any other heel.

I actually have to agree with Sly, until now I never really viewed it as racism, simply Hulk Hogan(the biggest face of all time) coming back to beat up a young heel. Its not like its the first time it has happened.

Didnt say it was racism. i said it had strong racial undertones, and was very racially charged.

Other heels dont use a throat sltting motion, and speak arabic while they are beating someone down, before the "real american" Hulk Hogan comes down for the save.

No person can see that, and not see racial undertones, especially given the conflicts of the time.

Sam, on the other hand, did.

It was just the person playing his gimmick. I mean, the gimmick was around long before and long after Wrestlemania, so it's not like it was conceived simply to build Hogan. The gimmick got great heat, so it was profitable.

In the end, the WWE is responsible for entertaining their audience, and that is what they did. It just so happened that, this time, the heel that got beat up was playing an Arabic character, but if Hussan had not been there, it would have been someone else doing the same thing.

Never said it wasnt. I just meant the entire character was built around racial undertones, and social situations in the current world. And true, the same thing would have happened without hassan, yet it wouldve lacked the racial undertones. The fact that it involved one of the top symbols of america (Hulk Hogan) and the fact they went to the full extent of what probably offended many americans (the arabic speaking, the throat slit gesture) which they didnt always do, further exasperated a racial undertone.

But it was all done contextually, and thats why WWE could always get away with it. It was actually a very clever character by them. I wish he was stilll around, the gimmick, and how they sold it, was excellent. Wouldve been a great way to get Angle over as a face at a later time and date.

The fact was that Hassan was horrific racial stereotype was enough to tip it into racism.

Is Hogan?

He's Mr. America!

No, the heel was merely beating up "the child". It's a scenario that has played out many times before and after.

Yeah, and the heel was a racial stereotype.

Hogan was the greatest part of WM21.

Then it was a poor, poor show. I'm an attitude era mark, I don't piss myself every time Austin makes an appearance.

I haven't seen the match in a while, remind me later and I'll watch it and point it out.

Sure thing.

The good Aryan guy coming out to save the white child from the evil Muslim heel. There's actually nothing incorrect about that sentence.

It was designed to make Americans proud, not to portray a Muslim in a negative light, at least no more so than any other heel.

Proud of being morally superior to Muslims, I agree. C'mon Sly, the entire Hassan gimmick was designed to capitalize on the racial tension at the time. Pretty much confirmed when they were dropped after the London bombings.
