I voted for Mayweather at Wrestlemania. This is because it was the only time in this year that my non-wrestling fan freinds showed any intrest in the wrestling world. On a global scale this was a big thing for WWE and a big thing for wrestling. The actual build up to this match was only mediocre to average but the weight and affect of the story itself was absoloutly huge. It's a shame the WWE couldn't keep the interest of people who tuned in to see what Mayweather was doing.

Bobby Lashley Released: Bit of a surprise, but no repercussions or anything. Not a huge story.

Christian Cage lets TNA contract expire: We still don't know for sure if he's coming over or not. It might end up being useless and he could sign with TNA again and nothing changes.

Michael Hayes = WWE's Racist: Very shocking. But there's a better one out there below.

The Hogan Family Fiasco: Eh, I never really cared for the Hogan drama. Plus it doesn't affect the WWE as much as some of the other things.

The Rock appears at the WWE Hall of Fame: No big deal.

Floyd "Money" Mayweather to headline Wrestlemania: Just an annoyance. Nothing huge.

Jeff Hardy's 2nd Wellness Strike and House Fire: Big stuff coming out of this. If anything, this had the most amount of consequences from the story. Punk as a champion, for instance. This one gets my vote.

Mick Foley goes to TNA: That was a shocker.

Ric Flair Retires: We all saw it coming.

There are only two things in my mind that qualify here: The Michael Hayes racist story, and the Jeff Hardy story. The Michael Hayes story led to Mark Henry becoming the ECW champion. It also led to Shelton Benjamin getting hte US title, and I think also Kofi Kingston the IC title. The WWE at least showed that this wasn't what the company was, and tried to make up for it. Shocking story, with some shocking results as well.

But Jeff's story was tragic. He's lost his home and all his possessions, and to top it all off, he's suspended as well. It must've been a really hard time for Hardy, and I think the wrestling world was feeling his loss a bit as well. And this had more influential consequences such as Punk winning MITB and the WWE title, as NoFate said. This story was overall more shocking, and had more of an effect on the WWE and the WWE's fans. Hardy gets my vote here.

Bobby Lashley Released - If Lashley wouldnt have been released he would have likely ended up winning the WWE championship. But still , his release wasnt that big of a deal. The WWE tried to make him look like a superstar but the fans never realy got behind him. It was disappointing when he was released. That's about it. 6 months later most people have forgotten who Bobby Lashley is.

Michael Hayes = WWE's Racist - I voted for this because of the reprocussions. Like it or not this had a impact on title changes. For a short period of time every black wrestler in the WWE was getting a push. I'm not saying that's bad im just saying it's the truth. Somw of the pushed wrestlers deserved the push they got (Kofi Kingston and Shelton Benjamin) But some of them didnt (Mark Henry) It's also rumored that Bobby Lashley quit because of Michael Hayes' racism. If that's true one of WWE's future stars quit because of an ignorant bigot. That makes it the story of the year.

Jeff Hardy's 2nd Wellness Strike and House Fire - EVERYBODY was fired up about this. people just couldnt believe how ignorant Jeff Hardy was. He was in the middle of the push of his life and he fails a drig test. That's possibly one of the ******ed personal choices i've ever heard of. Then his house burnt down and it turned into a story of losing everything in a matter of weeks. I realy felt sorry for the guy because i thought when he came back to the WWE he'd be stuck jobbing. But about 8 months later he's the WWE champion and everything's good. Kudo's to him for that.

I had to go with the Floyd "Money" Mayweather to headline Wrestlemania purely for the fact that it made the news in Australia. The day i ever here local news in Australia mention the WWE again is the day i revoke my vote for this.

Hardy's 2nd Strike: Hardy was on a roll at the beginning of the year and looked to be the frontrunner to win MITB...Then he got suspended and then lost his home and possessions which was extremely sad...It took a while for Vince to trust him again and he redeemed himself the last part of the year...The jury is still out whether he can stay clean but hopefully with the WWE Title he can stay on the straight and narrow.

Michael Hayes the racist. Infinitely entertaining. Not because Michael Hayes is racist - judging from what he said, he's more affirmative action than anything. No, so we can see that even professional wrestling fans are simultaneously indulging themselves in and aggressively opposed to gross political correctness.

Michaels Hayes said the "n word" in a comment aimed at himself. If Mark Henry is upset that he's not considered a n*gger by his boss then he's a fucking idiot. And he got to be fucking ECW champion because of it. People who are upset clearly didn't understand what Hayes meant and/or never read what he said. 'Nuff said.

Hayes or Hardy for me. Both had the long running consequences, some of which are still being felt last night with hardy winning the title. Hayes dropping the N bomb caused Cryme Tyme to be pushed up very high, Henry to win the ECW title, Shelton to win the US title, and Kofi to be pushed. Are any of these four related to Hayes? Some yes some no, but it's hard to ignore the connection. I think that's what gets my vote. If nothing else for the amazing reatcion to it. Henry is now where he is mainly because of this. Shelton and Cryme Tyme is hard to say as they had gotten pushes before. Kofi was a developmental talent that would have gotten over no matter what. Hardy's second strike caused a lot of changes, but in the end it all worked out as it would ahve anyway, so I'll take Hayes.

I voted for the Jeff Hardy 2nd Strike news story.

People were disappointed in Jeff for fucking up once again. It happened right before Wrestlemania, where he was meant to win the Money in the Bank ladder match for a future World Title opportunity. Well, he got many titles shots this year, but the money in the bank briefcase basically guarantees a brand new champion at any time within 12 months. Hardy got people talking, and I myself was disgusted in Jeff for being involved with drugs once again, especially when his main event push was right around the corner.

Because Jeff was suspended and was unable to compete in that match at Wrestlemania 24, CM Punk won the World Heavyweight Championship in shocking fashion. The story really made the WWE cautious of Hardy's situation, his decisions and his responsibility. The article got a very negative reaction from the IWC and was definately the best news story of the year.

Overall it wasn't an intresting news year. Last year we got us some murder, so it was never going to be as intresting.

The Lashley release wasn't that big of a deal, he had potential, but that's it. No real loss, and I think he'll be back at some point. The racism thing was intresting, I guess. But Hayes dressed as a pimp at the HOF so I didn't think he was a legit racialist.

People's reactions to The Rock were intresting. Jealousy mostly. He came and did exactly what WWE wanted him to do.

Overall I'd go with the release of Lance Cade. So he had a drug related seizure, where's his suspension & rehab stay like other wrestlers then?

Hardy was in line for the Money in the Bank and eventually the title. He got his title, but just had to wait a while longer. Hardy's second strike has almost turned into a positive for him. He's played off of it all year. His feud with MVP was centered around him being reckless. I think it motivated him and took him to another level. And it made a huge splash.

I voted for Hardy's second strike, because it was completly unexpected. The man had his year planned already. Win the MITB ladder match and then win the title at SummerSlam. It seemed perfect, but then very close to the event he gets suspended, and loses his place at WrestleMania, losing his opportunity for the title at SummerSlam. No-one understood why he did that, because he was in the middle of the biggest push of his life, so it was completly out of the blue.

Gotta go with Jeff's strike costing him everything - title, MITB, WM shot, the works. It won it for me because of the timing of it all. Thanks to this one move, we got to see Punk do poorly as the top guy, and Morrison have to take the spots in MITB.

Hogan would have been top if he were still active for me, but he's not and to be honest, it wasn't really 'news', more soap opera than anything really shocking response evoking

Pfft, unexpected? It's the exact same Jeff Hardy that got suspended several months before. It's the same Jeff Hardy who was unreliable in TNA, and it's the same Jeff Hardy that got released in 2003 because he didn't want to go to rehab.

It was coming, it was just a question of when. His third strike will probably be a surprise to some. I don't know why, the pressure of carrying the company is often too much for level-headed competitors.

Given how mum Christian and the speculation still surrounding what exactly his plans are, I will go with his TNA contract expiring. While Nick Hogan's jail sentence is certainly interesting (in a sensational and scandalous way), I think it is irrelevant to the world of wrestling...unless the guy that is pretty much braid dead as a result of Nick Hogan's recklessness gets a bulk of the Hogan fortune, thus forcing Hogan to make an unexpected return to WWE.
