Jim Cornette To Commentate NWA 70

Is this Cornette eating crow? Dude did nothing but bash the NWA for years, including Corgan's acquisition of the brand. So now he's part of the 70th Anniversary. I get money talks, but it's strange to see guy make an about face like that. From listening to his podcasts it seemed like he hated it and wanted it to die. Guess we'll soon see what he's thinking with this gig when he uploads to his channel. Really puts in perspective how much a difference a year makes though. NWA may not be a candle in the dark here, but it is getting noticed. A few big names are attaching themselves to the product. Interesting times.

I wonder if you ever listen his podcast? While he hates like Joey Ryan doing stupid things, and I understand why he does, he never hated the NWA. He did laugh at corgan buying the brand not because he hated the NWA but because it's pretty much a dead brand and didn't get, like a lot of us, what corgan could do with a brand that's pretty much dead.

He goes the the NWA fanfest every year and pretty talk about the good old days of the NWA all the time on his podcast. He does respect corgan so I don't see why it's such a shock that He's going to be there for the 70th anniversary since He's a big part of the NWA history. I'm sure that corgan did promise him that they won't have any of that silly stupid wrestling and that Joey Ryan won't be booked for the show because knowing jim, if either of these things would have been on the show, he would have stayed home no matter the amount of money that corgan would have offered him because he truly doesn't need the money and he probably would go nuts and be arrested if he saw Joey Ryan even near the card.

The 70th anniversary show should be about celebrating the history of the NWA and not make a joke out of it like Joey Ryan would do if he was on the card.

Then, like me, he should be clearer with his words, because what I hear in this is that Jim agrees National Wrestling Association (a brand defunct almost 40 years ago, and hasn't been a real thing in about 70) has the same value as National Wrestling Alliance and Corgan should have just started from scratch. Or maybe Jim should've posed a better argument against his partner. He didn't, so silence is just as good as a nod.


The last seconds of the podcast are "And quite frankly I'm not even sure he knows what he's doing" followed by laughter. If that isn't bashing then we've definitely slackened on the definition.

Fuck this whole Jim being skeptical thing. There was no vote of confidence here.

I'm not saying he talks shit about all of NWA. I should have been clearer in saying "years". Maybe I got wrapped up in pushing for comments like several such as yourself do here. The point remains that Jim doesn't talk about the last 20 years or so of the NWA. He reminisces on the same talking points he's made in previous NWA-inspired podcasts when he was a part of it. More power to him for doing so, but he remains in the past. It's very peculiar that he would want to commentate on Corgan's NWA, a brand reinvented, and that's what this topic is about.

Is this something he has said or did you just assume this was a thing?

"I have nothing against him." and "I respect him." are not the same. Even in podcasts about Corgan acquiring Impact this wasn't something that was being said.

I agree that NWA 70 should focus on the history, and I highly doubt Cornette and Joey Ryan would be part of the same show regardless the cash thrown Corny's way. Cornette compares indy wrestling fads like Ryan with giving pets anal. So yeah there's no way Ryan will be part of the show unless for some reason Jim can throw a punch. Even then he seems like the guy who wouldn't want to be assed with it period.

While I question Cornette attaching his name to Corgan's NWA with what he's previously said and should be accountable to, I am glad he is going to be part of commentary. It adds a lot to a brand that was near extinct a year ago. The more established names that surround William, the better this should be.

Just seems like a farcry from the "why didn't Corgan just xyz" that he was on before.

First of all, i'm sorry if the first part of my comment felt like a insult, i really wasn't meant to fell like one but i guess the way i phrase it might have made i fell like it was a insult when it really wasn't.

Secondly, if you are a fan of his podcast like i i'm, i kinda don't take everything he says just by how they sound because you can really see the difference between when i really means something vs when he's say something but it either him finding something funny or in his own way saying that i respect somebody without saying the world.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but i've listen to his podcast since the very first episode he did with court bauer and i don't recall him saying the word respect or anything of that nature on his podcast.

Anyway, while i won't be watching the event, i'm just glad that he coming back as a color commentator, i fell him and Schiavone will be a great announce team to call that main event.

I don't take a lot of what Jim Cornette says seriously as far as his insults go. I mean, he pretty much insults just about everybody whether it's Impact, WWE, ROH, New Japan or individual wrestlers like Joey Ryan and Kenny Omega but he'll gladly put all that aside to collect a paycheck from anyone who offers. He did an episode for WWE's Table for 3 a while back and I remember only a few weeks before the episode premiered, he griped about WWE over something.

I like Cornette okay, but the guy gets on my nerves after a while and I can only take him in measured doses. Much of his schtick, at least when I read interviews he gives or listen to an occasional episode of his podcast, it's usually the same formula: reminiscing about his glory days, the glory days of the NWA, how he feels wrestling should go back to a territory style system, going after people he doesn't like or some combination thereof.

Generally speaking, the NWA brand has been dead for more than a quarter century and I'm not entirely sure what Corgan is trying to accomplish. Does he ultimately want the NWA to be a single entity like WWE, ROH, Impact and pretty much everyone else or does he honestly want to try to bring back the territory days? Whatever it is, I hope he takes his time to figure things out. For now, I could see the NWA brand represented by various titles being used and defended in other promotions, like ROH or possibly New Japan by having top stars carry them.
