Yes, Alberto is a very good wrestler... but he is a very bad entertainer. I don't know if he would become popular even with a good gimmick... he has very bad mic skills. I was ecstatic when I found out that Ziggler was replacing him at No Way Out LOL. But I would be even more ecstatic if he quit.

Alberto Del Rio was able to accomplish big things in his short time in the WWE. That itself is awesome. I know I heard him say in an interview once that he never wanted to be a babyface again, but I think it'd be awesome if he used his Dos Caras Jr gimmick with the mask. I just think it'd be different for the WWE. I know a lot of people hate him and think he's stale, and I understand that his gimmick hasn't developed at all since his debut. Hell, for fantasy sake, I'd say he should disappear for a while and then return as Dos Caras Jr with Ricardo Rodriguez as Chimaera!
