A Post Is Worth A Thousand Words
Move accordingly if needed, as always.
Has anyone else noticed that the WWE lately has been trying to give certain wrestlers gimmicks that, in general, consist of them simply telling you that they exist and that they've probably got some sort of personality, but you're not allowed to see it?
Dolph Ziggler = The guy walks around, shakes hands, and says "Hi, I'm Dolph Ziggler." Everyone knows by now that this guy is Dolph Ziggler (cough*he really isn't*cough) but still, everyone simply says in response "Who the hell is this guy?" so it clearly isn't working. The fans aren't cheering for him when he pops up, nor are they booing. I think everyone just wants to see if this is all the guy is or if he actually...you know...has a purpose. They aren't building him up as having a personality of a heel, nor as having the personality of a face. They're essentially building him up as Timmy from South Park, stuck on a broken record of repeating his name. You'd think by now they'd want to give us a personality for him so when he comes out, fans either boo or cheer accordingly rather than give him the inevitable silent treatment as they ponder: "ok, his name is Dolph Ziggler, he's announced it, Lillian's announced it, and he's still a no-name jobber to me".
Jack Swagger = The All-American American, who has cut zero promos about such a namesake and shows basically nothing to go along with it. He does, however, continue to point to his teeth for us. Thank you, WWE, for letting me know that Jake Hager does in fact have the ability to smile. I'm impressed. Seriously I don't see what's so great about this guy. He just looks like another Mike Knox, Chuck Palumbo, Snitsky, etc....just another kind of big guy with nothing to separate him from the crowd. The only thing they've had him do outside of coming out to generic rock music and pointing at his face is attack faces in the most overused methodology for heels. Nothing we haven't seen by nearly every single heel in the history of professional wrestling, so he has no personality yet. But we're supposed to boo him....I think.
Ricky Ortiz = He's charismatic enough that he's apparently banging Tiffany on the side and he's hilarious according to Teddy Long and the commentators. Wait a second. Is this true? Am I missing something? Cause I thought this guy's gimmick was that he's a douchebag, cause that's all I'm seeing lol. WWE seems to be trying to simply TELL us that he has a personality rather than SHOW us. If you want the guy to be a funny face, make him do something funny. If you want him to be a charmer, make him do that. If you want him to be a serious face, book him as a serious face. Right now, WWE is trying to make us care about Ortiz by showing us that he's.....Ricky Ortiz....."a face you should cheer for because he's aligned with other good guys, but trust us, this guy's a hoot!"
Charlie Haas = Multiple personality disorder? Lol. Contrary to the others, I actually like this one and I think its working for him. Its certainly giving him a better reaction from the crowd than the other three combined.
Etcetera. Why do you think this is? Do you think they haven't noticed that they're doing this? Do they know full well but they just can't think of anything better for these guys? Do they not care? Do YOU not care? Lol.
