WWF Scandals 1992

Occasional Pre-Show
Hello,

Recently i came across an interesting video on youtube. This features VKM and a few former employees of the WWF on the Donahue show. This was about an announcer named Murray Hodgson who was supposedly fired cos he rejected Pat Pattersons advances. Then you had a few other people who also talked about Pat Patterson advances towards them and seeing him trying it on with kids.

I tried to find articles on this afterwards. I found one which basically stated that the lawsuit Murray Hodgson had against the WWF was dropped. Is that cos he was lying? Cos Pat Patterson did resign but was rehired.

What i found strange was one person made these allegations and all of a sudden a number of people came out and had similar stories. Was this a way to get attention or was there any truth to this?

I know Billy Graham talked about Pat Patterson trying it on with young boys and that it was reported, but nothing was done. If that was the case, why not call the police?

I also found this video to be interesting on the whole steroid scandal from 1992.

There seemed to be a lot of people talking about Hogan taking steroids, though he claims he only did so 3 times for medical reasons. I don't get why he never admitted to it? To keep his image clean?

****** Actually on Larry King, Hogan did admit to taking steroids, cos everyone else was doing it and at the time it was legal *******

There have been rumors of scandals throughout the last 30 years, from the Pat Patterson/Terry Garvin stuff to Randy and 14 year old Steph or how Virgil actually got his job in WWE Jerry Lawler's issues with a young fan and the cover-up involving Superfly...

No one will ever know the true facts until Patterson or Vince writes a book, and even then it's doubtful they'd cover it. The most likely reason it "went quiet" was that Vince may have chosen to just pay people off as the Steroid indictment was looming at that time. Perhaps Patterson was totally innocent. As I remember it was mainly Terry Garvin and Mel Phillips who were accused of the major wrong doing. It was the 80's the "casting couch" principle was often in effect in many companies and sexual harrassment laws were virtually non existant. Hell they had a female ref who accused Vince himself on TV of those type of practices.

Either way this is kind of a pointless thread, even if Patterson, Vince, Savage or anyone had done anything illegal, statute of limitations has long passed and people chose not to press charges. On balance, Patterson has done more good than bad, if nothing else for being the first openly gay wrestler/office guy. SO probably time to stop gossiping and let it all go as like I said, we will never know the truth. The only one that has any major teeth is the Superfly issue, as he lost his civil case (OJ 10 years before OJ).

Thank for the video. In the 27 years that I've been a fan, I never knew that Donahue show existed! Knowing what I know now, Vince definitely knew what was going on as far as steroids and child abuse. He also knew about the homosexuality. Guys back then lived by a strict code. If you were one of the boys, you didn't squeal because everyone had their vices, whatever they were.

Years later, Billy Grahamn would admit that the only reason he spoke out against these lockerroom practices was because he grew bitter of Vince McMahon and the fact that he was still making money without him. Grahamn realized he was finished as a wrestler and was released from his commentating duties and sat at home angry, and decided to sue Vince for damage done to his own body. Bottom line "Superstar" destroyed himself with steriods for over twenty years and decided he was going to hold someone else accountable for his own actions.

I think Jesse Ventura had the best idea when he decided it was in the wrestlers best interest to form a union. He presented the idea to Hulk Hogan who was Vince's cash cow at the time and Hogan wanted nothing to do with it. Jesse knew that if Hogan brought this idea to Vince, he would probably listen. Jesse thought guys having a pension to fall back on after they sacrificed their bodies for Vince was a good idea, but even the boys were intimidated by this concept. The intimidation of losing your job kept lots of things like steroids, child abuse and other criminal acts from reaching the light. A union would have prevented a lot of these things from going on to a degree because then, guys would not fear losing their job for blowing the whistle on criminal activities.

Thanks for posting a fine topic to touch up on....

This sounds a lot like the Penn State scandal. It seem that back then it, and probably even now it is common place to cover up for people's wrong doing in the name of business. It is bred into some people that you never squeal no matter what. This seems to be the case here. Who knows though they could be innocent, but it does not surprise me anymore when you find out people cover up for other heinous crimes. Even sexual harassment get covered up and swept under the rug all the time. I have seen it many times even in my business where even the women will just blow it off afraid they will get in trouble if they say something. In the end though this is all gossip until a book is written and even then I doubt anyone would incluse this type of thing in said book.

Vince had a lot o gay guys in top positions around him. It's gotta make you wonder. Bret was bitter when he wrote his books so I'm sure if he knew anything along those lines he would have really put it out there, but he didn't. Hawk and Animal said they thought Vince was gay with Shawn Michaels.

There's a Larry King interview with Bruno and Vince where Bruno mentions this and reveals that there were multiple accusers against Pat Patterson.

Regarding Vince having possible gay interactions in the past, I wouldn't doubt it. This is a man who has an insatiable ego, and probably didn't care who, male or female, was stroking it at the time.

I just watched some of the old videos of the scandal on YouTube and they were pretty bad. I just find it hard to believe that Vince's 2 top executives were doing this and he had no clue. He was probably involved too. I wonder how many times Pat Patterson blew Shawn Michaels?

Thanks for the forum. I never heard about the Pat Paterson stuff. I knew about Hogan and the steroids. I also remember Sheik, Hacksaw drug problem and women being harassed and other thing. But this was the first time about Patterson. It's pretty weird to cause they just had appreciation night for him on raw. Good forum and youtube video. Got alot of info from evryone else too.
