WWE Year 2006: Ruthless Aggression Era getting some "Attitude"?

Year 2006 in the WWE. On Raw side of things, do you think that the WWE wanted to make a short revival of the Attitude Era? D-Genreration X was reformed, McMahons were back to action, Cena became a badass character who would beat everyone by beating the hell out of them. We had the second ECW Invasion (this time without WCW), a tag team Hell In A Cell match, a great feud between John Cena and Edge, Mick Foley back to action and the great ECW fans stealing the show.

So, do you think the WWE wanted to put some "Attitude" into the Ruthless Aggression Era that year?

If so, do you think it was a successful try?

* I really didn't know where to put this thread so I put it here. After all, it's been 5 years since then.

Now, I'm not shooting....but I don't understand why everyone has to keep talking about the attitued era....and "Ruthless Agression" was not an era. That was just waht McMahon wanted to see from his superstars...In other words take intiative....Be hungry, Show that you want to be a main eventer, and show why you want to keep your spot....I mean they were Just coming off of losing rock, austin...among others im sure.

Plus, If you ask me I don't think WWE ever lost "Attitude" , I think it was mainly the fact that there were alot of fans who never got to witness DX...(Back when DX was riding high parents wouldnt dare expose their kids to the product or for any other part of the attitude era) I think it was also another way to get some of their younger talent into the title picture.

Just like when HBK came back in 2002 you could say "wow its the attitude era all over again considering he was one of the main catalyst." But you didn't because you knew the business will always have "Attitude"

as stated above, that wasn't an era, it was just one year. and who did it put on the map as a rising star? answer John Cena but also those that weren't in the main picture during the attitude era got a run. The idea was obviously to say this is what we want you kids to do, don't just sit back and coast along, step up to the plate and take what you want, force people by being talented to like you, force WWE to give you a push by proving yourself which is obvious what Orton/Cena/Edge did which is why they are now in legends status.

and the rest was just ending what was left over from the end of WCW/ECW going down.

WWE didn't lose Attitude, they just weren't allowed to and wasn't necessary anymore to put people's lives at risk, put sex/violence over entertainment, not to mention they were a publicly traded company no longer soley owned by The McMahon's and they had to change to accomodate the fanbase/society changes accordingly.

and if you ask them, it was all necessary to go backwards so they had somewhere to go forward again in the future. If they didn't stop attitude where could they have gone?
They'd already done death threats, rape, kidnapping, attempted murder, pregnancy, gay relationships, incest, extreme violence, satanism, excessive blood/language and anti social ideals.
The only thing left would've been to attack a country or take over the world legit.

So, do you think the WWE wanted to put some "Attitude" into the Ruthless Aggression Era that year? I don't think it was an era as everyone thinks beacue of one thing happen we are in another type of era. Hence the pg era, WWE was pg in th 80's so its not really an era more then a continuation of the past. An this whole Reality era thing. One shoot, a worked shoot none the less and we are all of a sudden in a reality era. Why? Becuase of twitter and facebook That useless crap has sady become a part of America, that it is just another part of the day. So I don't think it was an era it was more of Vince wanting guys to prove they belong and it was the WWE needing new ME players since the guys of the past have left and retired. So sure there was attiude during the ruthless agression time, because if there was not then we wouldn't of had new ME players.

If so, do you think it was a successful try? Sure it was very succesful. It gave us Edge, John Cena (hit him or not but ya know you liked him when he first came into the WWE). It gave us Chris Benoit, Eddie, and many others stepping up. So if them guys aren't a success then I don't know what succesful is. So yeah this so called Ruthless Aggeression era proved to be a very successful time filled with plent of attitude.

We have way to many threads on this and I dont know why people feel the need to keep bringing it up because it only ever sparks the same arguments over Eras in the end, but they never did away with Attitude Era styled programming, but it was a different era after it ended in 01 @ WM17 and then we had The Ruthless Aggression Era, which was it's own era, a transitional era, transitional because the Attitude styled programming didnt go away, but the era died, you cant expect it to straight go PG so slowly Attitude stayed then slowly died after 06 after ECW was made less extreme etc.

If you look at mid-01-06 they kept it extreme and stuff, but 07 was okay, 08 it was dead and gone and 09 was worst, 10 was worst, we always had moments that were big, but the old stuff, the good stuff, was gone

Yup, WWE programming in 2006 was definitely far from PG, cuss words were used often, we had the edge and lita "live sex celebration" or wateva they called it on raw, the ecw one night ppv was definately extreme, we had divas stripping on ecw, we had the MR Mcmahon kiss my ass club, we had DX shove MR MCmahons face in big shows bear ass, barbed wire was still used through out the year and lots of blood,,,,, those are just a few examples to answer your question

I dont really think that was an era. I've personally considered the last 6 the Cena era since he's all wwe ever really focuses on.

Anyway back to the question, no I dont think they were. 2006 was one of my favorite years in wwe but really I think it was just all about gaining back there old fans back.mSo i guess in a way though yes they were trying to bring back the attitude era but for the most part no.

I thought 2006 was one of their better years in the decade, but still flat. I did love the roster at that time, but had some poor story lines. When DX was reformed, it was watered down and way over done. Consisted of their PG styled comedy act that was a paid infomercial to sell products. Should have added a new member or something, try something new. Sad. Don't get me wrong, much love for DX, just wasn't the same in 06.
