WWE RAW Pre-show?

TSG

Too Sweet To Be Sour

I broke the story on this past weeks "Wrestling Reality 1 on 1" that airs on TribLIVE Radio in Pittsburgh, that WWE is preparing to implement some new changes to Monday nights.

After speaking with sources I have learned that there is a plan to add a pre-show to RAW from 8:30-9pm EST. It would be a countdown show to RAW that would take place at the arena where RAW is being held each week. The production would include Superstar interviews, fan interaction and obviously further promoting the major stories going on.

I have been told it would be something similar to a college game day live countdown like ESPN on any major network might do leading up to a big game.

From what I am hearing, this addition to WWE's programming is very close to being a done deal and would likely start this fall. Its more time on the USA network during prime time hours on a Monday night which can mean more money. The ability to insert sponsors and promotions in the countdown show also can mean more profit for the WWE.

This is apparently an idea that the WWE has been discussing for quite some time.

Thoughts?

I'm indifferent. It's an interesting concept, for sure though.

Oh, and in a post that has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with Ryder, attack me for taking up for him. I see. That makes sense.

I think it is a great way to give hype to feuds, and give undercard guys tv time. It reminds me somewhat of Sunday night Heat from a few years ago. IMO i think it would be fun to see Joey Styles as the host.

Oh, untangle your panties. Joking, obviously.

If it's on USA, it's a great idea. Online? Stupid.

So was I, hence the sarcastic eye roll emoticon. ;)

Styles could be a potential host. As well could be Josh Matthews, Josh Korpela, or Scott Stanford. I am under the impression it won't feature matches, but a match every week or two for guys like Masters, Hawkins, Bourne, Kozlov, etc. wouldn't hurt.

this is going to do, like, a .000000000001 rating.

No one is going to fucking watch this. Not even me. Totally abominable idea.

I love it, if they work it right.

I've always imagined for years and years if the WWE had both a pre and post-game show like other sports.

But if they're just going to have Todd Grisham and Matt Striker talk about nonsense, then I probably won't watch. It would be pretty cool if they do the show NBA/NFL-style and have analysts as former legends on the show to give their input on the product. I personally prefer a post-game program than a pre-game show but that's just me.

Sound Familiar? Cough TNA REACTION cough. It was cancelled within a year, and so will this. It will be fun to see how it plays out on tv though before it goes on WWE.com like all the other tv reject shows

At least reaction had an ME segment carrying over into it, and a reveiw of everything that went down.

This wont even have THAT. Its just gonna be the same video packages we saw THREE FUCKING TIMES already in the previous week

They have something like there here already.. RAW is supposed to start at 6, but The Score (the channel RAW is on) does a 15 min recap of the past week in the WWE. Showing video clips and what not. At first I hated it, but it's been going on so long that I hardly notice anymore. Throw on mute, and sit back and wait.

I am not sure if this is a reaction ripoff attempt or just a stupid idea.

Why in God's name would the WWE have any desire to "rip off" a show that totally bombed and was cancelled in a few weeks? Pretty clear that if this is "ripping off" anything it's your typical countdown show that airs before any sports game. Y'know...like the article says.

Stupid idea though.

I would rather they do something like a recap of last weeks show, or just put Superstars on, have zero interest for a Countdown to Raw ore show, though when they used to use Heat as a countdown show before the PPVs I always did like watching that, & would mind seeing Raw bring back something like before PPVs

It's not like there is anything else airing at this time, I see it as more of a way to capitalize on the audience they had with tough enough. Clearly they saw people where willing to watch a pro wrestling related program before RAW, so why not try and capitalize, if it brings sponsors (which it will) and makes money (which it will) then it can't really be categorized as a bad or stupid idea.

While it's not the ideal programming that I would want to watch before RAW, I'll be more inclined to watch this new show as opposed to another season of TE. I just can't get behind anything to do with reality shows. This current idea is aimed more towards the casual pro wrestling fan, there less of an investment when tuning in and you don't have to follow a separate show to know whats going on.

I thinks it's a pretty decent idea, It kind of sounds like a Sunday Night Heat hybrid (assuming there's some wrestling and not just promotion and interviews)

If they can air a pre-show match, with a couple of guys who are never on television, and a few people are watching, I don't see the issue. If it stinks, I won't watch. But, I will at least check it out.

22 is a few? Reaction usually did pretty well the first half hour all things considered. Shortening the show and using it as a lead in could certainly give WWE enough of an audience that the show would stay on tv. Which is something I am doubtful when it comes to

You put too much stock in what you read when they give you little reason to. Nothing is clear about the format of a show that doesn't even exist yet. At least we agree that if it is ripping of college gameday it is stupid.

I should probably clarify that I mean stupid in that I have no idea why USA would agree to put such a thing in the 830 timeslot. As SSC accurately points out, this is anything but stupid for business. I just think a better idea might actually last.

I dont see the point to this at all. It barely works for sports but it's a useful idea for sports because there are so many things to discuss. WWE spends so much time going over their angles that this would be 30 minutes of regurgitated TV. Nothing new would be added at all.

For a PPV, especially the bigger ones, it works very well. On a standard show? Well I certainly wont make the effort to watch. Depends as always on what ratings it brings though. Tester period perhaps?

There's absolutely nothing wrong with it. It may get viewers, it may not. In the grand scheme of things it just means more money and more exposure for WWE. No bad thing.

Also, Zack Ryder and Scott Stanford should host it.

What about Tough Enough season 2? Would it be moved to 7:30-8:30? So 3.5 hours of wrestli....i mean sports entertainment every monday? Sounds like overkill to me. That's one thing i enjoy about impact wrestling. I only have to devote 2 hours a week, and 3 hours on a sunday once a month, to watch it. Trying to watch all wwe programs is sometimes exhausting
