WWE Announcing Hurting Faces Credibility?

Starship Pain Co-Pilot:crashes alot
Okay so this is a disturbing trend i've found as i've been watching the E lately, for no apparent reason the announcers criticize the faces and i'm not referring to the heel announcers, oh no, i'm talking about Jerry Lawler and Cole, so this has been happening a lot but two things come to mind right now from the Mitb PPV although it has been happening on raw and Smackdown too

1. when they were criticizing cena for not getting out of the cage to dish out more punishment, which they then spent the next 5 minutes trying to reverse

2. When John morrison set up the ladder to the side to set up for the pre-orchestrated end to the raw mitb, i mean any wrestling fan knew that he was just giving room for more ladders and the announcers knew that but the wouldn't stop berating him for it.

I don't know, maybe they just struck a nerve, but it does good for no one to criticize their faces unless they're coming up for a heel turn
Thoughts?

The WWE announcers simply suck. :disappointed: They can't do it without JR. Cole is way beyond the worst commentator ever, and the only time I can recall him doing good commentary is during the Taker vs Batista Mania 23 match :) . Otherwise he's way too annoying and irritating, and his overuse of the word "history" simply kills the mood. :banghead:

The fact is, and I'm sorry to say this, nobody has the capability to become another JR. :worship: And we are so used to JR that we can't stand the bad commentary and their mistakes now. But JR can't continue forever, and there'll be no other.... in fact Wrestlemania 26 got bad ratings from certain websites simply due to bad commentary and their inability to push heels and faces as who they are meant to be. :wtf: Nobody can get that act correct like JR.

the only I can think, is WWE is trying to get the commentators to come across as neutral. which makes sense in a way, but it's not working.

If they had J.R./King style commentating tonight Raw would have been much better. They had a great show in and of itself and I am happy that I stuck to watching it the whole way through for the first time in a very long time. Suffering through Cole's commentary did drive me nuts though. You can tell that he still just doesn't get how to connect with the fans. Smackdown is even worse, I don't even want to touch that subject.

I've been reliving the history of WM by watching from WM14 on and I must say listening to Michael Cole has to be the most annoying and irritating thing I've ever been subjected to. As said his best performance was Taker vs. Batista and even then I had to try and tune him out. You can't pair Cole with King, Foley, JBL, Coach, Boogeyman, Hornswoggle or ANYONE and have him come across as something worth while. I totally think that having Cole as an announcer essentially KILLS any match.

FOR EXAMPLE. MITB when Matt Hardy was reverse DDT's off of the ladder by Christian Cole yelled "A TWIST OF FATE!!!!!!" when it was clearly not a twist of fate. He can't even call proper moves. King as a heel color man was GOLD with JR playing the beloved face. I remember when King's kid was wrestling and King was playing a solid heel. After (and for the life of me I can't remember who Lawler was facing but the star injured their knee performing a high risk move) King left the announcers table and belittled the injured star and continued to nail home how "great" Brian Christopher was. THAT kind of announcing would bring WWE to a new light and make things interesting. Right now it's sooooo boring listening to Cole kill any of WWE's quality matches. And to answer your question officially: Yes the WWE announcing does indeed hurt Face Credibility. EXCEPT if its a HEEL commentator doing it effectively! Such as King (yes I use him a lot as an example because as a heel the man is golden) complaining about a face star posing for the crowd or trying to get the crowd involved to hype them up and he says something like "oh look at him, he cares more about the fans then he does winning a match". That right there elevates a face. So to put a fine point on your question.
Yes...with a but.

Commentary really does blow now. You got two guys on RAW who pretty much talk about nothing interesting. JR had a cool voice, good sayings, the works. Even JBL was good. But cmon "The King" and Striker should be fired they are truely very boring. I get sick of them going head to head on eachother, like Tazz did insulting his co commentator. Just shut up talk about the match entertain us make us see angles your supposed to show us so we can understand it better. All of them try to feed us info secretly like that whole Miz story.

I have to agree whole heartedly, Nearly every commentator in the entire WWE has at least one giant flaw. Or in Michael Coles case, many.

They have also being mood killers as you mentioned and I am sick of it. We need JR!!!!

If I'm thinking of the same match, it was Scott Putski, son of Ivan Putski... The match took place at the "Ground Zero" PPV, if I recall correctly.

I don't mind Cole as much as some of you, but I do wish someone would strangle the word "Vintage" out of his vocabulary. The other major thing that irks me about Cole is that, while I find him neutral for the most part, he's always singing The Miz's praises, whether it be on RAW or NXT. For a neutral announcer to blatantly put over a single heel just doesn't make sense.

I think the PG rating has a bit to do with commentary as well. They have to watch what they are saying, which IMO, really hurts Lawler, or any heel commentator, for that matter. Look at it this way: If Jake Roberts were wrestling today, or the WWE was PG in 1996, you likely wouldn't have heard a word regarding Jake's alcohol issues. Just an example.

Definitely right. They're trying to make them more neutral/non informed. They know we know, so they have to make us think they don't know. It failed. And yes its making them look bad. Instead they should just give in and say "Hes doing this" so others who don't know can catch on.

well, i have to say, Striker has been growing on me. some of the useless facts he throws out, are kinda interesting. pointing out that Gorilla Moonsoon was trianed in the heart dungon, i had herd that before but forgot, was good to remember how far back the history goes there. but Striker is as close to a Heel as we get behind the table. he was high on Miz, Drew, LayCool, and when King and Cole were freakin out about Sheamus tapping out, striker was pointing out that it dont matter cuz no ref saw it.

Cole is getting worse and worse it seems. with his errors, at one point in the MITB PPV he called it "money in the..ladder match" i turned back to the screen and actually said "what the fuck was that??" i mean come on! it's written all over the arena, you'd think you could at LEAST get it right.

I've noticed this too and I'm sort of torn on it.

On one hand, I don't mind it because it's a more realistic style of commentary that doesn't insult my intelligence. Why didn't Cena or Sheamus leave the cage when they had numerous of opportunities to, and when did they, they were often illogical in terms of timing and placement? They're bascially saying what a lot of people probably think when they see stuff like this, so the announcers don't seem as oblivious when they make such observations

On the other, wrestling is a fake show. Of course everything isn't going to makes sense, and them making remarks makes it harder to suspend disbelief and can put a damper on a match. I'm aware that Kofi setting up a ladder outside the ring isn't smart, but that's part of the fun of it. It's almost like watching the show with skeptical non-fans.

In the end, I'd say that it should be done the way it used to be done. Let the heel commentators be the smart asses who criticize every little thing, and the faces be the oblivious marks.
