Mike Johnson is reporting that MTV has pulled Wrestling Society X, after only three first run episodes. On Tuesday, a program titled "Scarred" will air in Wrestling Society X's scheduled time slot timeslot.

After only 3 episodes that is crazy! Maybe if they didnt play the dumbass sneak peaks all week they would have higher ratings.

AMIDST NETWORK TURMOIL AND QUALMS OVER CONTENT, MTV PULLS WRESTLING SOCIETY X FROM THE AIR, COMPLETE DETAILS
by Mike Johnson @ 9:19:00 PM on 2/15/2007

In the midst of major shakeups within the network's executive end, MTV has pulled the fourth episode of MTV Wrestling Society X from next week's scheduled airing at 10:30 PM.

While the actual yanking of the episode was due to an issue with the MTV's standards and practices department, sources claim that the network is also trying to change their strategy moving forward, both with WSX and other first-run programming. A program titled "Scarred" will run next Tuesday in WSX's usual timeslot.

The pulled WSX episode was slated to feature the debut of IWA Puerto Rico star Ricky Banderas, during an angle where he would throw a fireball into WSX champion Vampiro's face. MTV initially approved the storyline and stunt when it was filmed during WSX's taping in Los Angeles. Once the network received and reviewed the episode, however, the decision was made to not allow it to air due to concerns over viewers possibly recreating the stunt. Since the fireball angle was one of the company's main storylines for the length of their episodes, the situation went back and forth within the network and has yet to be resolved, so the episode was pulled.

In a January interview with PWInsider.com, Wrestling Society X producer Kevin Klinerock discussed MTV's issues with producing a product that would feature violent stunts, commenting, "The biggest issue that standard and practices, and everyone at MTV has - and it's understandable. The concern is, 'How easy is it for some kid, some viewer, to replicate what they are seeing?' They don't want us swinging light tubes. Understood. An exploding casket, however, is not seen in the same light on the same scale of sheer violence of swinging a light tube; a kid's not going to be able to get an exploding casket in their backyard. That's their concern. It doesn't come from a sake of wanting or not wanting something to be seen on television, they have real series concerns. They've lived through a number of lawsuits from kids watching and imitating "Jacka**" and similar things, and it's just their set of standards that the entire network lives by. It doesn't matter if it's a wrestling show or "The Real World." It's just a standard of rules that everyone has to live by. "The standard [MTV uses] is how easy is it for someone to replicate it. That's what we have to look at when it comes to stunts and violence. It's not a whitewash WCW using cotton candy as weapons by any stretch of the imagination. It's definitely got your mix of extreme and your mix of entertaining in-ring high flying action. We give a little bit of each in each episode, the extreme violence and the excellent high flying technical in-ring wrestling. I think we accomplish that. Most episodes were laid out that way."

Additionally, MTV as a network is in a major state of flux at the moment with ratings for their original programming (including their top series, Two-A-Days) down across the board. In response, parent company Viacom has let go of over 250 employees in the last several days including several high ranking executives, with some given two week notices and other departments being completely shut down.

Among those fired, according to today's edition of entertainment trade publication The Hollywood Reporter was Paul DeBenedittis, who held the position of Executive Vice President of "multiplatform programming, content strategy and scheduling at MTV". DeBendittis was responsible for MTV's programming decisions, including placing WSX up against WWE's ECW on Sci Fi. MTV sources noted DeBenedittis was one of the major champions at the network for the series and had been involved with WWE's series at the network, including Tough Enough, during their tenure with MTV.

Sources claim the network is re-evaluating the programming currently airing on the network. Its possible that moving forward, WSX may be moved to another timeslot to get it away from the competition of ECW.

When asked whether the series was in danger of being canceled after garnering just a 0.5 rating this week with its third episode, WSX sources noted MTV had already paid for the production of the 10 filmed episodes and that it wouldn't make sense for the network to not air what they had already invested in. The hope is that once the shakeups within the network settle down, it will lead to a positive change overall for the series.

WSX sources indicate that Wrestling Society X is currently scheduled to return on Tuesday 2/27 at 10:30 PM (although that could conceivably change as things evolve from the standards and practices end of MTV). Independent listings, including TVGuide.com, currently back that claim.

It hasnt been canceld it has been pulled for a week

10 EPISODES AND OUT WATCH, MTV JUST CANCELLED TRL, ITS NOT GONNA KEEP WSX. THE CANCELATION WILL PROBABLY VOID WHATEVER LONG OR SHORT TERM CONTRACTS WERE SIGNED. VAMPIRO CAN GO BACK TO TNA AND GET INVOLVED WITH STING/ABYSS AND TEDDY HART CAN SIGN WITH WWE SO THAT THE NEW HART FOUNDATION WILL HAPPEN AFTER ALL, AND LOOKS LIKE WHEN WSX DOES GET CANCELLED (which lets be real it will be) X-PAC CAN RETURN AS WELL.

First off, I haven't watched MTV in a long time because I've had no reason to with occasional exceptions. Second, should WSX bite the dust, what do you expect? How much can you possibly get in a half hour? 1 hour is barely enough but half an hour, you can't anything good in that time frame.

They put the entire show on their website. The wrestling was decent and Im a little disappointed by the fact that Idiots would do something as stupid as imitate Wrestlers if they had a warning at he start. If it went on it would possibly have grown out of the half hour and into a full hour then maybe more I don't know.

Thats really f**king bulls**t. They pull an episode because of a fireball? They run their disclaimer enough during the show 'do not try this at home' to cover their asses in court if some mongoloid decided to do that and got hurt.I bet WSX airs the season then it goes to tv hell. I had high hopes for WSX. Maybe another channel will pick it up maybe.

One thing i really dont get is : Spiketv and MTV are owned by the same company (viacom). Why can one channel show wrestling 'stunts' and the other cant? One episode gets pulled because of a fireball whereas on TNA there is barbed wire, ballbats, guitar shots, six sides of steel..etc..

Demographics, I don't have the exact numbers but, I bet Spike is looking toward an older group where as MTV is for the younger group. I'm not saying that it's a great reason but, it is the reason. I think 25 is on the low end of Spikes demo's and that same 25 is the high end of MTV demo's. If a 31 year old gets caught on fire trying to throw a fireball, he's a moron. If a 13 year gets caught on fire trying to throw a fireball, he's a moron with a lawsuit.

Seeing as I can just watch it on Youtube, no wonder people have better things to do with thir life than watch a guy jump directly into a pool of 'piranhas' (probably clown fish like nemo)

WSX has NOT been pulled

cool.thanks for the link.

That looks very tame for a fireball spot to me. I was thinking maybe the fire got to big or something and thus why it got pulled. Mtv fucking sucks!

Meh that's pretty tame stuff really compared to what ECW used to get away with.

UPDATE ON MTV WRESTLING SOCIETY X

by Mike Johnson @ 11:36:00 AM on 2/19/2007

The fourth episode of MTV Wrestling Society X, which was yanked due to a fireball spot featuring Vampiro, has finally cleared MTV's standards and practices.

The episode will air (with the contested fireball spot edited to some degree) on Tuesday 2/27. Following that, the remaining six WSX episodes will continue to air on Tuesdays at 10:30 PM Eastern.

At this point, that is the only timeslot for the series on MTV, although there's talk of giving WSX back a regular replay timeslot. There are a number of replays of previous episodes scheduled for MTV2 and MTV3 currently.

a shame about WSX. A lot of guys in there have massive potential. Jack Evans and Matt Sydell really struck me. Unfortunately, WWE would never pick them up and I always liked Vampiro. I think he wanted nothing to do with the WWE just as Sting didn't. The Filth and the Fury, also impressive.

Actually WWE was interested in Sydel. I hope that WSX is really cancelled so that Vampiro can go to TNA and Teddy can go to WWE and form the new hart foundation with Harry Smith and Jim Neidharts daughter.

Sorry but I don't think a new Hart Foundation would be any good. Any team with "New" in front of the title never goes well. Vampiro to TNA, I'm all for it because as I said, I think he feels about the WWE the same way that Sting does and also might have a grudge with them over what happend to Eddie Guerrero. Both Jack Evans and Matt Sydell I would love to see go to TNA because they would be just the thing to really add fuel to the fire of the X Division. Those two and some other have tremendous talent and to see them just hang it up because of WSX being cancelled would be a waste.
I blame it on MTV. What do they want for a half hour of wrestling? And bringing up the musical guest to do play by play, was just annoying.

Say what you want about WSX or TNA but at least they gave us something new with wrestling.
