Wrestling related dissapointments

Pre-Show Stalwart
Discuss what in the WWE has dissapointed you the most. I'll start:

Triple H going over Kane and Booker T: I watched the No Mercy 2002 PPV last night, and watched HHH bury Kane, who was over more then he probably ever was or has been. I understand they were having HHH keep the title so he can have his feud with Micheals over the title, but they could have just as easily a feud without the title. Micheals' reign was pointless anyway. Instead of seeing the god awful HHH Scott Stenier match at The Royal Rumble, we could have instead seen HHH reclaim the title from Kane. Kane would have at least got to hold the title for more then one night. I also watched the Wrestlemania 19 DVD a few weeks ago, in which HHH buried another over superstar, Booker T. Booker T was on a roll back then. He had to just came out of winning a battle royal, eliminating one of the greatest superstars ever, The Rock. This should have been his night, but Trips had to go over another over hot superstar

Vince rushing into the Invasion angle: Had Vince waited a few months on doing the Invasion angle, We could have seen Hogan, Goldberg, Nash, Hall, and others involved, but no we see DDP and Booker T, who did have sucess in WCW but were not WCW's biggest names. This angle could have been one of the biggest in the history, instead it was a flop.

Austin's neck injury at Summerslam: Had this not happened, Austin would probably still wrestling which means we could have so many great matches, Austin vs Cena, Austin vs Edge, Austin vs Orton, Austin vs HBK 3, Austin vs Guerrero, and i'm not betting on it but Austin vs Hogan. I'm not blaming Owen because mistakes do happen in the wrestling business, its just misfortunate this one happened.

The deaths of Owen Hart, Eddie Guerrero, and Chris Benoit:
No telling how much farther these 3 men could have gone in this business. No body may think, but i think Owen would have eventually won The WWE championship and would have been one of the greatest champions ever like his brother. Eddie was expected to win the title again infact, I believe I read that he was booked to win a triple threat between Orton and Batista the week he died. Sadly we'll never know if that was an actual fact. I don't think Benoit would have won the WWE or World titles again, but i'm sure he would have won the ECW title, and would have brought back prestige to that title helping young superstars while doing so.

So theres my list of my dissapointments in the wrestling business. What are yours?

Muhammad Hassan: If vince hadn't caved to UPN, he could've been one of the greatest and most over heels ever. insteaad, he faded away and left us only with what might have been.

Goldberg/Hart: Goldberg should have learned to be safer in the ring. Instead, Bret had to retire early and Starrcade 1999 will be remembered for the injury.

Brock Lesnar: If he had stayed he could've trancended being "the next big thing" and became "the greatest big man in WWE history".

WWF Buying WCW: For me this was the biggest disappointment in wrestling history. In my eyes March 26, 2001 is when wrestling died.

A big dissapointment was when they had the Edge-Matt Hardy feud in 05 and the only one of them that came out of that feud as a main eventer was Edge.

Another one was when Randy Orton's 1st title reign lasted from Summerslam to Unforgiven in 04, complete garbage title reign.

And back in 1997 when they had the HBK vs Owen Hart feud which became a HHH vs Owen feud and HBK vs Taker at Royal Rumble 98 in the casket match, it should have been HBK vs Owen at the Rumble and then maybe HBK would have never broke his back.

There is a long list on this one. How about with the Invasion angle where Vince pretty much let all the WWE guys bury the ECW/WCW guys. Also announcing Stephanie McMahon as the owner of ECW... WTF? Then the biggest disgrace besides Owen Hart falling to his death over faulty wiring and a angle he didn't want to do is Shawn & Triple H making fun of the Hart Family in Canada after the Montreal Screwjob. Shawn was humping the flag and making fun of Bret's old man in the audience. How about the great Katie Vick storyline where Triple H screwed the corpse? classy. Thank god Vince didn't go along with the incest angle. That's one good thing about the PG era because we don't have to see that crap or a 60 year old man like Torrie Wilson's dad get a blowjob on national television. We can't forget the abomination now known as ECW. With The Zombie and the wondeful GM known as Tiffany. Tonight's show makes you want to throw up, how did we go from RVD and Sabu in barbwire matches to Shaemeus and Abraham Washington? It's awful. Also it's a shame how WCW used Bret Hart and put the belt on David Arquette. That god awful WCW movie Ready to Rumble make's 12 Rounds look like Apocalypse Now. Horrible GM's like Adamle on Raw. Let's not forget the thousands of matches they have every week and on every PPV each month that are the exact same. I think God has jobbed in more matches then Triple H and Cena have. WWE has just been terrible in general. Sorry but its true if your an old school hardcore fan of 20 plus years.

one major disapointment for me is wwe burying the cruiserweight title, and giving the honor of being the last ever cruiserweight champ be freakin hornswoggle. I mean come on people.

To me, it all starts with addition of smackdown. At the time WWF/E was hot so another show was added to burry Thunder. Once, WWF/E bought WCW the business changed forever. A few months before that ECW folded. So the fans lost two companies in a short span and either had to give up on wresting or put up with WWF/E.

The brand extension. At first was difficult but once the ball started to roll became every good. Bringing in Eric Bischoff changed things up and Raw got good again in my eyes. Then, Paul Haymen became GM of Smackdown and true heat between the shows developed.

When Heyman "quit" I am not sure if they had set plans. GM's were coming in left and right. That is when Smackdown became difficult to watch. Then Bischoff was "fired" leaving Vince in charge and fueding with Michaels. This is when they started and continued to dissapoint me to the point where I only watch impact (no cena, no mcmahon family, no triple always doing the same thing) and read results on here. Once Vince was in charge and pushed Michaels to the brink, it brought back DX which I hated because you can never relive the past.

Greatest disappointment has to be ECW. Vince bought ECW just to place his wrestlers who nobody cares about to get TV time. ECW went from good matches to Tiffany. On another note, where is Tiffany's last name?!

I'm dissappointed they didn't keep pushing the Billy and Chuck gimmick. They were such a great tag team, not to mention they had the best music ever heard in the WWE.

I'm dissappointed that Kurt Angle is in TNA.

I'm really dissappointed everytime I hear Triple H's music.

I was dissappointed that Lesnar had to do the job to Goldberg, because they were both leaving the company. (I wasnt sad to see Goldberg go, but I really loved Lesnar)

I was extremely dissappointed when Jericho had to do the job to Goldberg, after beating him up backstage.

Raven dropping the US Title(or was it the TV title) to Goldberg on Nitro in a cage match so Goldberg could keep his undefeated streek alive.

I was dissappointed in Chris Jericho's run as the 1st Undisputed Champion, only to have to do the job to Triple H.

I was dissappointed that Booker T did the job to Triple H at WM18, after pulling out all the stops, Booker T lost to one simple kick to the stomach and a pedigree

I'm currently dissappointed in the fact that were still watching Orton vs. Triple H.

I'm dissappointed that Vince burys perfectly good stars because someone else doesnt want to lose their spot light

Montreal Screwjob, that was a huge dissapointment
Bret Hart/Goldberg - Ended Bret's career, the assclown
WWE as a whole right now is dissappointing. Vince is running around like a chicken with his head cut off, trying this and that to boost the ratings, we have angles starting one week and stopping the next. We have titles switching hands every PPV and them some. Wrestler's who should be getting pushed are getting buried, and wrestler's who shouldn't be getting pushed now or anymore are stll winning titles and in the ME picture. WWE needs to sort out it's priorities.

holly sh*t! a good subject. where should I start?
(1) Vince- Keep the 2 guys that won't leave the company at the top. Okay I know Trips has talent. But it's time he starts putting the right people over. The only good part of Trips lately was when they made him seem human. The part where Orton KO'd Stephanie seemed good. But it had NOTHING to do with wrestling
(2)Bret/Shawn- I see how EVERYONE gives HBK all this credit. But the man did 1 of pretty much 3 GIANT "NO NO's" in the business. If I were any of the wrestlers that was wrestling when SS97 happened, I would have questioned Vince/Shawn right away. If I were a wrestler now, I'd be asking myself every time I got in the ring with HBK, "Is he going to F*ck me over like Bret?"
(3)ECW- Not going to say a whole lot about this, cause it's already been said. Not letting Haymen and Dreamer run ECW as it's own company completely stupid. I miss the old ECW.
(4)Dropping good talent- Lynn, Taz, RVD, Justin Credible, Rhyno, Shane Douglas, Sabu, Raven, FBI, Tajiri, Super Crazy, Dean Malenko, Lance Storm , Al Snow and so many other dropped like a bad habit. Should have just let them continue on with what they were doing in ECW. The only reason ECW went under is because they were NEVER aloud a real chance. It had NOTHING to do with the talent that was there.
(5)Putting over BAD talent when you have good talent- Cena, Batista and THE ROCK.

Christian, Helms, Dreamer(finally getting somewhere!), Carlito, Santino, Jamie Noble, Charlie Haas, Kane, Shelton Benjamin, Big Show, Matt Hardy, R-Truth, Mike Knox and Zack Ryder. I could find better things for all of them. I would have had Jericho, Edge and Rey in this, however somehow Vince is putting them over.

There have been a lot of good responses so far. I won't repeat any. I'll say not getting Hulk Hogan vs. Ric Flair at WrestleMania VIII. This was the biggest dream match of all time. These were without question the two biggest stars of the 80's. They were the two biggest stars of rival promotions for years. It would have been sports entertainment vs. old school wrestling. This match was actually announced for WrestleMania VIII then changed. This didn't go down because Hogan was leaving the company (I think because of the steroid scandal) right after Mania. They weren't going to put the belt back on Hogan and they didn't want Flair to go over him. That would be like admitting the NWA was better than the WWF. To his credit Vince came up with some nice alternatives. Flair vs. Savage was awesome. Although Hogan vs. Sid sucked I loved the end of Mania where The Ultimate Warrior made a surprise return after being missing in action for seven months. It's just too bad we didn't get the ultimate dream match on the biggest stage. Especially when the timing looked so right.

I'm sorry, not to get off-topic, but I had to correct this poster.

How in the sweaty fuck is The Rock a bad talent in any way?

Batista and Cena are two of the most talented entertainers (Difference between drawing ability and wrestling ability, athough they do a pretty good job of what they're supposed to do: slam and look strong) of this decade so far. Cena is always entertaining on the mic. Batista is definately improving, go watch his opening promo from Raw this past Monday.

Christian is in a feud for the ECW Title. Helms is apparently making a comeback as The Hurricane. Dreamer is ECW Champion, which to be honest he's lucky to have that.

Carlito is just coming fresh off a tag-team title run. Santino is hilarious, so he should be coming back soon, but if he gets fired, I wouldn't be surprised. Nobody gives a shitfuck about Charlie Haas and Jamie Noble. They're just there to be what I like to call "jobbers" and they're doing a pretty damn great job at it.

Kane is apparently in a feud with Khali. Benjamin did job out on ECW, but he'll have an ECW Title run by the end of the year. If Tommy Dreamer can get a reign, Benjamin sure as hell can have some. Show is apparently in a feud with Kofi after how their match ended Monday, but we'll just have to see how that pans out.

Matt Hardy is injured. I will admit that Mike Knox is kind of being wasted, but he still is a jobber to the main eventers, so he is still needed and used. R-Truth is very over with the crowd and is consistenly getting wins over on Smackdown. Zack Ryder is somewhat getting pushed, or at least as much as you can on ECW. Still, he wasn't even a great superstar to begin with.

I'm sorry, but I'm tired of people bitching and whining about how their favorite superstar (who is usually 150 lbs. dripping wet with a brick in each pocket.) isn't main-eventing. Not everybody is going to have their "Wrestlemania Moment" where they are in the middle of the ring holding up a world title. It just doesn't work like that.

As already mentioned, ECW going from what it was to what it is now.

RVD taking a "hiatus" from wrestling.

Shelton Benjamin not being given the main stage, when his talent deserves it.

Biggest disappointments?-Taz coming to wwe and getting hurt/RVD being held back for years and leaving/Sting not ever being at Mania( he's one of the biggest stars ever, he just deserves it). Ther are too many to list.

One that has recently and genuinely pissed me off is how Orton lost at Wrestlemania 25. If you think about it, all of the big stars won at Wrestlemania with alot of buildup. Austin, Hogan, Michaels, Cena, etc. For Orton to have all of that buildup and then just fail at Wrestlemania was horrible to me as a fan.

I mean, what was the point of Triple H winning? So Batista could return? They could have easily just had a singles rematch at Backlash. They still could have done the "injury" storyline with Triple H and have Batista return the next night on Raw, just like they did with Triple H and Shawn Michaels in 2007. Plus, it seems like Batista returned too early anyways.

I usually don't accuse Triple H of using his backstage pull to his advantage, but this time it was fairly obvious. Sure he had a little "losing streak" at Wrestlemania, but he has the most World Title reigns of any active competitor in the WWE. Orton winning would have cemented him as a big star, but I guess it wasn't to be...

Great topic. Anyways here's my list.

1. Triple H going over Booker T at WM19: I have read on a few sites that Booker was supposed to go over that night & become the world champ, but no stupid ass Triple H uses his political pull to pretty much bury Booker T(who was on a major roll back then from what I saw)

2. I'm extremely disapponted everytime Triple H's music hits as I can feel that 99.9% of the time somebody who needs to be elevated to the next level is gonna get buried.

3. Raw is just the same old shit over & over again with the same boring ass main eventers(yes that means Roidtista, Triple H & everybody else who is stale as fuck). Some of those main eventers(*cough* Triple H *cough*) should just take a backseat & start putting over the younger guys instead of hogging the main event scene like a damn egomaniac. God damn it's just disgusting.

4. The Invasion angle: The angle was alright, but it was really rushed. I think they should've waited a while so they could have had Nash, Hall & Hogan in the angle to make the fans believe more that the alliance have a standing chance against the almighty WWE, but no they completely buried the alliance & they pretty much destroyed DDP's character in the process. Just pitiful.

5. WWE officially putting a monopoly on the business by buying out WCW & ECW.

6. Goldberg ending Bret Hart's career: I hate that fuckin bastard Goldberg. He should've learned how to execute a kick properly in wrestling school.

7. WWE as a whole: It seems like Vince is running around like a chicken with his head cut off by doing random shit after random shit just to boost the ratings. He flip flops with angles like a fat kid in a candy store. I already explained the rest of it in reason number 3.

8. TNA: Now the wrestling on their shows is alright, but the writing, washed up has beens, Vince Russo, the backstage skits, the behind the scenes, the D list celebrities & just what they do for their house shows & shit is horrendous. They have alot of problems as we speak.

9. The burying of the Cruiserweight title: I used to love the cruiserweight title as they had some great matches. What truly baffles me is that the unentertaining midget Hornswoggle was the last ever Cruiserweight Champion.

10. Triple H going over at WM 25: Orton had so much momentum going in his favor before WM25, but no Triple H had to win. I mean really what was the point in him winning? Just so Roidtista can return? They could have just simply had the rematch at Backlash or the next night on Raw, but I don't know.

There are so many to list. There almost as many dissapointments as there are spectacular moments. Without going into too much detail, I'll list a few:

1) Montreal Screwjob
2) nWo in WWE
3) Brand Split
4) Invasion Angle
5) WWE purchasing WCW & ECW
6) The current booking of shows & talent
7) The Rock & Austin leaving at their peak.
8) Wrestlemania 25 (all of it except for Taker/HBK)
9) Devaluing of the titles.
10) Lack of diversity in the main event scene over the last 2 years.
11) Ending the Attitude Era
12) The PG Era
13) Vince McMahon's ego
14) Changing the name to the WWE from WWF.

This list can go on for a long time as you can see. I'll stop here.

The Benoit Murder-Suicide is by far my greatest disappointment. Yes, I love RVD, I love me some CM Punk, I love listening to Raven and Cactus Jack promos, but Chris Benoit was one of my favorites to watch in the ring. I loved his feud with Angle, loved seeing him win that Heavyweight Championship.

I remember thinking while watching one of the Hall of Fame ceremonies how one day I would be watching Benoit's induction and would listen as the crowd applauded one of the all time greatest technical wrestlers as he took his rightful place in WWE history.

None of us really know what truly happened in regards to the murders themselves, but Benoit didn't just destroy himself but his family, his legacy as one of the best and he put a black mark on the profession that he loved in the eyes of the media for a long while. Damn near broke my heart.

Biggest disappointment: other than no Hogan V Flair at Wrestlemania is NO Macho Man in the HOF. There are people in the HOF that should not be there in comparison to the Macho Man.

The Brand split is another. Just put them all together again and be done with it. There is enough talent to put GOOD shows on not this crap we have now.

Nice topic/thread. Some good responses so far.

Anyways,

- Jeff Hardy's first WWE title reign. This still pisses me off to think back on it. I (like a lot of fans) was waiting for this to finally happen and for him to only be on the show once (i think) was pure shit. The fans deserved better for his first reign.

- RVD getting caught. I don't care that he smokes pot (it obviously doesnt effect his in ring ability) but the fact he got caught was a dissapointment.

- I don't know when it happened or when I realised but the moment I knew there would never be another SCSA vs The Rock at a Wrestlemania was pretty dissapointing.

- Everytime Triple H goes over when he shouldn't (too often).

There are so many to list. There almost as many dissapointments as there are spectacular moments. Without going into too much detail, I'll list a few:

1) Montreal Screwjob

What was he going to do? Let Bret go to WCW with the title?

2) nWo in WWE

What was he going to do? Not have Hogan Vs The Rock?

3) Brand Split

What was he going to do? Have good superstars like Jericho and Hardy be left to wade in the midcard while the surplus of main eventers drown on the same roster?

4) Invasion Angle

What was he going to do? Actually let the Alliance win at Survivor Series?

5) WWE purchasing WCW & ECW

What was he going to do? Let them bankrupt him?

6) The current booking of shows & talent

What was he going to do? NOT have CM Punk as the World Champion and Smackdown as an awesome show?

7) The Rock & Austin leaving at their peak.

What was he going to do? Fuse Austins neck and knees back together and buyout Hollywood?

8) Wrestlemania 25 (all of it except for Taker/HBK)

What was he going to do? Re-hire Brock Lesnar to beat up Cena? Say no to his Son-in-law?

9) Devaluing of the titles.

What was he going to do? Not make Edge the best heel in the business by giving him some titles?

10) Lack of diversity in the main event scene over the last 2 years.

What was he going to do? Not capitalise on Cena's freakish popularity?

11) Ending the Attitude Era

What was he going to do? Freeze time and change peoples likes and dislikes?

12) The PG Era

What was he going to do? Sell crack to kids?

13) Vince McMahon's ego

What was he going to do? Become christian?

14) Changing the name to the WWE from WWF.

What was he going to do? Suplex baby pandas until the World Wildlife Fund give the name back?

This list can go on for a long time as you can see. I'll stop here.

Yes it can go on for a long time

The WWE as a whole is a dissapointment. For one, look at the title scene. What a joke! Now THIS is what a title scene ought to look like (take from the World Heavyweight Title and United States Heavyweight Title picture from the NWA in the 80's until 1990):

Ric Flair
Sting
Lex Luger
Magnum T.A.
Nikita Koloff
Dusty Rhodes
Road Warrior Hawk
Tully Blanchard
Ricky Steamboat
Terry Funk
Barry Windham
Michael P.S. Hays
Stan Hansen
Ricky Morton
Harley Race
Kerry Von Erich
Scott Steiner
The Great Muta
Brian Pillman
Tom Zenk
Big Van Vader
Sid Vicious

Now these guys were some of the best in the world. And they could all bounce between World Heavyweight Title, United States Heavyweight Title, and World Television Title pictures, and some the World Tag-Team Title pictures as well at any time, and they kept it fresh. People could chase any one, or even two, titles at any given time.

Now, for tag-teams:

Steiner Brothers
Doom
Road Warriors
Rock 'N' Roll Express
Midnight Express (Stane Lane & Bobby Eaton)
Arn Anderson & Tully Blanchard
Arn Anderson & Ole Anderson
Skyscrapers
J-Tex (Muta, Buzz Sawyer, Dragonmaster)
The Funks
Fabulous Freebirds (Michael Hays & Jimmy Garvin)
Samoan Swat Team
The Russians
Sting & Lex Luger
Brian Pillman & Tom Zenk
Dynamic Dudes (Johnny Ace & Shane Douglas)
The Fantastics
Barry Windham & Ronnie Garvin
Manny Fernandez & Rick Rude
Southern Boys (Tracy Smothers & Brad Armstrong)
Ole Anderson & Thunderbolt Patterson
Varsity Club

The World Tag-Team Title and the United States Tag-Team Title scenes were the best the sport has ever seen, and many of these tag-teams could have a member chase a single's title and still not break up the team.

Vince could take some notes from the last true golden age of wrestling. He has the NWA-JCP tapes; he needs to start watching them so he can learn how to put on good shows and build good talent.

Until then (as if WWE will ever get better) I'm getting more into TNA.

Hmm... alot of things said in posts above i would list as well but i wont repeat stuff. Instead, i will add :

1) Mr. Kennedy!!!... Kennedy - absolutely loved him until the very second he wins MITB. Promo after the match sucked ( mr. money in the bank... bank), he had so many promos that were so better; Then the re mix of his theme, just too fast and stupid; The trunks replaced with a track suit it didn't suit him at all, pun intended; The injuries completely stopped whatever momentum he had. Overall huge dissapointment.

2) "Santina" wins FIRST EVER miss Wrestlemania, aweful.

3) No more WWE Divas posing for Playboy - is there any guy who can honestly say YES to that? :(

4) Umaga "The Savage" speaks English language, happened on one Smackdown around the strap match with Punk.

5) HBK beating Bret Hart at WM 12, huge heartbreaking moment for me, I'm a huge Bret Hart fan.

6) Sunny not a WWE diva. Sunny can't wrestle, OK but imagine her at commentary with The King instead the boring Michael Cole. A first female on as a commentator ( if i'm not mistaking ). Plus, we all know how King is with ladies hehe.

7) Randy Savage still not in the HOF - The Madness was one and only, his place is in the HOF, no matter what the story is between the company and him.

8) The death of Mr. Perfect Curt Henning - more of a sadness than dissapointment, I still miss him.

I'll just list a few

Booker T's funeral at WM 19 He was on fire got the loudest pops of his career rumored to be the winner of the title match but Trips steps in and pours water on another fire.
They give Booker the title 4 years later as King Booker an awful gimmick sad.

Chris Benoit's death broke me down wrestlemania 20 is the best in recent memory and when he won the title it was all time epic.

Randy Ortons first title reign it was awful and ended the way lots of title reigns do to the strength of triple h and his ego.

Eddie Guerrero's death I loved him the fans loved him everybody did he was the most entertaining man in the business.

Wrestlemania 21 look I respect and like John Cena but when he and Batista won the titles here it was the beginning of the era we are in today no doubt.

RVD leaving he gets the push of his life holds two world championships including the wwe title at ons a year later his career "ends"

The WM 25 main event a glorified squash with Triple H flexing his muscles again.

Shawn Michaels and the Undertaker not being able to stay healthy I don't know it seems when these two aren't around the business is not the same there age is showing and it won't be long until they are both gone for good.
