The 1-2-3 Killam
Mid-Card Championship Winner
With the Academy Award nominations soon to be released, and the ceremony on its heels I felt like we should hold our own celebration of the year past in the great industry of cinema. I thought we could use a bit of fun around this section! I'm not going to go through ALL of the awards that the Oscars would normally put out, but I'll throw up a few of the more important ones. There's no time limit or end to the "competition", nor does it really matter, so just vote for your choices and REMEMBER TO GIVE REASONS for your picks (otherwise it's spam!). And away we go! (P.S. If you really must be THAT guy or gal that has to disagree with my nominations, I can't tell you NOT to throw in your own vote as a write-in. Just know I won't care, because I'm an ass.)

NO, NOT THAT ONE!
Best Picture
Every year there is one movie that breaks the bounds of film-making. Whether it is box office titan or an independent Cinderella-story, this is the one movie that "you've just got to see". And the nominees are:
The Artist
The Help
Moneyball
The Tree of Life
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Pt.2
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo
Drive
Midnight in Paris
Best Director
What would a ship be without its captain behind the wheel? Likewise, a great film simply cannot be pieced together without its director! This year we had a lot of visionaries break free from the pack, taking creative liberties and ultimately turning their perceptions into works of art. And the nominees are:
David Fincher (Dragon Tattoo)
Martin Scorsese (Hugo)
Michel Hazanavicious (The Artist)
Woody Allen (Midnight in Paris)
Alexander Payne (The Descendants)
Tate Taylor (The Help)
Best Actor
Now that we've discussed the finer points of sailing, what would a ship and it's captain be without its first mate!? Every year...you know what? I'm done with the fluffy, sentimental "host" crap. I'm just going to list the the nominees, mainly because I wasn't overly impressed by the big actors this year...:
George Clooney (The Descendants)
Jean Dujardin (The Artist)
Ryan Gosling (Drive)
Matt Damon (We Bought a Zoo)
Brad Pitt (Moneyball)
Joseph Gordon-Levitt (50/50)
Best Actresses
Emma Stone (The Help)
Viola Davis (The Help)
Emily Blunt (The Adjustment Bureau)
Rooney Mara (Dragon Tattoo)
Maryl Streep (The Iron Lady)
Best Animated Feature
Rango
Rio
Cars 2
Gnomeo & Juliet
Winnie the Pooh
Kung Fu Panda 2
Arthur Christmas
Best Cinematography
The Artist
Hugo
Moneyball
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo
War Horse
The Adjustment Bureau
Best Visual Effects
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Pt.2
Transformers: Dark of the Moon
Rise of the Planet of the Apes
Super 8
Thor
Hugo
Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol
You can debate amongst yourself on all of these, as well as other categories you may care about - supporting actor/actress, make-up, original score, etc. I'm sure somebody is going to complain about my choices for something. Let me restate my previous stance on this: I don't care, because I'm an ass.
