Would You Welcome A Fourth Super Smash Bros. Game?

This is just a general question to any fan of the Smash Bros series. This series is my favorite fighting game franchise and is among my favorite game franchises ever. The reason this series is as great as it is is a rather simple one. They take famous Nintendo characters all from different game series and have them combat in one game. That was the original concept. Which in itself is a huge deal to any Nintendo fan. The first two games are very solid titles, for each console that they were released for. Then the Wii came out.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl was the game retained the same elements that made the other two great, but it expanded on those elements to benefit itself and become a much more solid and classic title. This game debuted the use of third party game characters. Which means that it debuted characters not Nintendo created. The first of these announced characters was Solid Snake from the Metal Gear series. Which was big news for the time it was announced but in my opinion was over shadowed by the next Brawl competitor. Sonic The Hedgehog being announced for this game was one of the biggest announcements ever made from development of a Nintendo game. We thought it could never happen yet it did. Sega actually allowed the use of Sonic in Brawl, who in his own right was the most requested character for the game and by me for that matter. It was an awesome experience going on Brawl's site and seeing the major announcement and the debut video attached with it. A truly mark out moment for a gamer of the 90s. Mario vs. Sonic was indeed truly going to happen.

So with the great reaction that followed with this game, and the new addition of non-Nintendo characters to the mix, would you like another installment to this classic series? I for one am all for a fourth game, but if a fourth game is to happen, I'm sure it won't be until Nintendo announces their follow up console to the Wii. Unless the Wii has a lot of staying power and gets second Smash installment on it like they did with Super Mario Galaxy. Also which characters Nintendo or not would you like to see in any future Smash game. I for one would like to see the likes of Geno and Sora involved in combat. However they are two Square owned characters so it may be difficult for Nintendo to invest in them in the long run.

Anyway it will be fun for me to see other gamer's thoughts on this subject. So are you willing to see a fourth game on the horizon, and if so which new members to the Smash roster would you like to see get ready for combat?

I would certainly welcome one if it were made. However, there would have to be some improvements. For example, Nintendo would need to get rid of the shit characters like Olimar and DeDeDe and replace them with new, better characters. Maybe some new faces? They were able to sign with Sega to release Sonic in the game, so why not put Shadow or Knuckles in? Maybe Nintendo can work out a deal with Capcom to put Megaman in. The possibilities are endless in terms of new characters. Also, some of the stages need to be revamped, and some "Final Smashes" need to be improved upon. However, I would welcome another Smash game. It's just a matter of whether or not I would buy it.

I would very much welcome a new super smash bros game. I enjoyed all of them so far. However one thing I would like even though I know it could never happen is for it to be put on xbox / ps3. That would enhance graphics and gameplay to what they should be. More faces as stinger pointed out would be nice too.

I loved SSB Melee, one of my all time favorite games, the only reason I bought a Wii was for SSB Brawl; and to say the least I was very disappointed with Brawl, I feel they completely dumbed down the fighting style, and slowed down the actual gameplay. The thing that pissed me off the most was the elimination of bonus mode, probably my favorite scoring system ever in any game, and they completely eliminated it.

I would welcome a fourth SSB if they went back and made it more like Melee, which is what they should have done with Brawl, and for the love of god bring back bonus mode.

I always liked the first one because it was just plain badass but I never got to play the other two because I parted ways with Nintendo after the N64, the Gamecube was a bust and the Wii is a total gimmick console. Since I don't have the Wii it wouldn't really affect and as such I wouldn't care. Sure there can always be new characters to add and new special thingies to do and fuck up but as long as I am a 360 man it will remain a very hit or miss series for me, mainly miss.

I'm on the Sony side of things, but this series is quite something I enjoyed from Nintendo, aside from Pokemon. They haven't milked it as much, so it's guaranteed to make quick bucks. I wouldn't buy it cuz I don't own a Wii, but that doesn't stop me from going over to someone elses house and playing there.

Every thread on Super Smash Bros. must contain one of the greatest commercials ever made.

Something else I wanted to make clear, they NEED to keep SSB a Nintendo exclusive game, I'm not sure on the exact numbers, but I'm pretty sure the Smash Bros. series is one of their highest grossing series ever; and I'm also pretty sure that it contributed to a lot of people buying Wii's just for SSB.

I probably wouldn't continue to support the Smash Bros. series if the moved it to any non Nintendo system, but I might be able to be convinced otherwise.

I would definitely welcome another installment in my favorite fighting franchise of all time. I feel they need to go back to the Melee fighting style if there's another one. I think some fo the Final Smashes need to be improved. I think they need to stick to Nintendo exclusive characters for the most part other than maybe one or two third party characters (agree with your picks Spood). They also need to find a way to improve the online play. Everything else is perfectly fine as it is.

Of course I'd welcome a new Super Smash Bros. Game. That's like asking if I'd welcome free hookers for life.

The one thing that could push one of the best party games in existence - only behind, arguably, Mario Kart - is DLC. Tell me the ability to download new characters, items, stages, costumes etc. etc. wouldn't increase the desire to revisit this game tenfold? Couldn't fit Travis Touchdown in on time? Oh, that's cool. Just patch him in a few months - that'll be fine. Programming the physics of the ***** was hard? Relax, take your time and release it as DLC.

I love Super Smash Bros. so I would most certainly welcome a new addition to the brand. All of them so far have been excellent and with the addition to the story mode from the last installment I cant wait to see whats next.

I have been waiting for years to see if they will add Goku to the games and with the recent addition of Snake it seems more or less reasonable. Also it makes sense due to the fact that Games such as Raging Blast sell pretty well for the Nintendo. In a way I feel it could be kind of overkill puting him in, but then again Marvel added someone like Dormammu who can blow up galaxies to the new Marvel Vs Capcom, so it would work out just fine.

I don't think you need to worry your pretty little head over this, amigo. As far as I can remember, HAL Laboratory is in an exclusivity contract with Nintendo, meaning they produce only Nintendo games.

As for a fourth SSB, sure why not? If the plan is still to milk this machine a bit longer, a fourth SSB is the perfect vehicle to keep console sales at decent levels. The Wii is entering a time when both of it's competitors are dipping their feet into the "motion-controlled" swamp, and while I don't expect anything of worth to come from either Sony's or Microsoft's rip offs take on motion-control, I think Nintendo could use more titles like this, the new Metroid title, and anything else high profile to sustain buzz for the Wii.

For the record, I probably enjoy Brawl more than Melee. I was never into the higher end play for SSB, considering that until the Wii, no game controller from Nintendo ever felt comfortable to hold. I do lament the slight sluggishness of Brawl, but I am grateful for some of the more ridiculous gameplay elements and exploits which had been removed. If I want to play a higher end "true" fighting game, I'd play one. SSB will always be a friendly group experience to me, and as long as that feeling remains, I will always pick up the newest copy and whatever system it's on.

i can't believe no one is talking about ssb 3d. If they made it for the 3ds then i would flip shit. But no matter what follows the smash bros name, [no matter if its bash, mawl, 4, or 4668765], its a first day buy.
p.s. fuck the guy that doesn't like dedede or olimar.

Dman above has the greatest idea.

If they brought a Super Smash Bros. to the 3DS I would mark the F out. Just imagine the possibilities. Could bring in online play or 4 player local DS's. It would be fan-fuckingtastic.

I loved SSB Melee, one of my all time favorite games, the only reason I bought a Wii was for SSB Brawl; and to say the least I was very disappointed with Brawl, I feel they completely dumbed down the fighting style, and slowed down the actual gameplay. I have to agree with this. Melee was probably my favourite game of all time, something I spent far too many hours on. I did like Brawl a lot, but it just didn't feel right, there was something that didn't live up to Melee, that I can't put my finger on. Maybe I just have a soft spot for Brawl after I actually managed to win a gaming competition involving it-that seems pretty likely.

That said, if there was a new SSB on a new Nintendo console, it would probably still be enough to get me to buy the console itself.

I would definately welcome another Super Smash Bros game as it is one of my all time NINTENDO game series. Super Smash Bros the original was thew start of something phenomenal. The ratings and the copies sold are proof of that. Melee went three steps further by bringing in a bunch of new characters and the addition of "event mode" "All star mode" and who could forget, "Adventure Mode". Finally, in Brawl, a HUGE step was taken by adding in WIFI along with the kick-ass new story mode. Bringing in Sonic and Snake from Sega was something I liked very much. Not to mention the ability to create your own stage is very AWESOME!. Oh! and my most favorite of all, the ability to play past nintendo games (even if it is only for like 3 minutes).

A new Super Smash Bros game could be a good oppurtunity to bring in Shadow (from Sonic) and bring back Roy the one that I am sure many people disliked for being taken out. They could also make the new story mode have the characters actually speak.

Unfortunately, I dont think that it gets much bigger than Brawl as I believe that will be the final game of the series. The hacking made for the game has made a bunch of people already be able to play the characters they want to play including anime characters. If I am wrong (and hopefully I am) then I will be one of the first to buy it.

I fail to understand how a 20 year old could make such an idiotic post.

You admit to never playing the sequels but then state that the series will be mainly miss? A blatant ignorant post and poster, better luck next time.

I see no harm in a new Smash Bros game, they have always been great fun for parties and I cant honestly think of a reason why another wouldnt be wanted. With luck, the roster would include more pleasant suprises like Snake and Ike. I would happilly buy the game with the knowledge I wont play it other then with others. Definitely one of nintendos funnest series.

Definitely! The only thing they have to do is make the online ten times better (unlike Brawl which wouldnt let me get on for the first year) and get rid of that crappy friend code thing.
