Would you watch The Undertaker - The Movie?

I was inspired by the new Johnny Cash entrance song he uses now, which IMO perfectly suits the character, and wondered why, with the huge number of poorly written and generic films the WWE churns out, why don't they do something with what is possibly their best and most compelling fictional IP - The Undertaker character?

Wait until he's retired then do something along the lines of a dark, violent, gritty western, with The Undertaker as some kind of supernatural, unstoppable force of nature out for vengeance. I'd watch that!

Unless they somehow convince Robert Rodriguez to work with it, no. I really wouldn't want to see it. Mainly because it would probably bomb under the wrong guidance. You say Undertaker, but I think Jonah Hex instead. While a movie with The Undertaker character might be interesting, most of the time, ideas that can be as far-fetched as that are best left on paper.

What about a biography of the Undertaker?

Sort of a "The Wrestler" type deal, a young "unstoppable" wrestler, who the entire nation thought was scary and pale looking, to what he is today, battling his injuries to put up a few more matches, keeping the streak and so forth.

This idea is actually pretty good. Why not give these WWE characters some back story through WWE films. I personally would love to see stories for characters like 'Taker and Kane. There aren't too many other fictional characters left, but I'm sure they could just insert guys into situations and have it explain who they are and further their character development. Its kinda cool if you think about it - a way to get even deeper into the fictional world of wrestling entertainment

i imagine if there were an undertaker movie it would be terrible. let's face it... i guess the beginning would be slow (the mean mark callous years) it would pick up a little when it got to the debut at survivor series. maybe they would explain why he was first announced by ted dibiase as "kane, the undertaker" for his first few tv appearances.

i guess they could talk about his lame "american badass" era. and his WM streak. and michelle mccool.

the rest of the movie would just be back and forth between him being injured 8 months out of every year, and constantly coming back until everyone was sick of the pattern.

i know. i'm a hater. so what. i cant help it. his promos suck when he talks. he drags and hobbles around like a limp dick and im supposed to believe that a broke old man is worth believing in???

his "movie" would be just a little bit better than if rey mysterio had a movie. both of them are old and used up. at least the undertaker changes eras sometimes though. i wish i had two more hands so i could give those movies four thumbs down

I don't think WWE films is gonna make any great movies any time soon. Taker is a great wrestling character, but on the big screen some changes would have to be made. He'll need a new purpose, a new back story. Even then, the fact that this is a wrestling character first may hurt the movie, and may not have people take the character in the movie seriously.

The poster is referring to the complete kayfabe aspect of the Undertaker character which would not include his time as Mean Mark Callus in WCW. That is not in any way shape or form going to correlate. They were talking about doing a Taker movie a couple years back from WWE Studios, I think the project has since stalled. However if done right it could be a good film compared to the other shit I've seen WWE films do. (I'm sorry but I could not stand The Marine and the fact that the sequel had Ted DiBiase wearing an Army uniform despite the film title being "The Marine 2" outright offends me as a former Marine myself. But that's another story for another day.) With WWE's other film projects an Undertaker movie wouldn't be the worst thing.

From what I hear, the film would have been an origin story to the actual character and not anything in his WWF/E years. It sounds a lot more enthralling than some of the shit I see on today's product.

Again that idea would be talked about in one of those WWE DVD biographies, a movie is a far difference concept.

While he's not what he once was, to his credit the guy's 40 plus and can still move in that ring, even if he's not on the same level.

No offense to Mysterio but in WWE he's never been given this mythology like the Undertaker has gotten. I am not sure if there's a backstory to the character in Mexico but in WWE he's just a cartoon character with a mask. Even in Taker's debut he still had a presence unlike no other. No disrepect to Mysterio but comparing those two is very inaccurate, in my view.

With everything else WWE does for its film division, an Undertaker film is far from being the worst thing ever.

I think that if the WWE were to make any sort of movie based around The Undertaker's life and career it would have to be quite a while after he retires. He has carried "The Deadman" gimmick for almost 2 decades now and has spoken very little in this time. This is a good thing as it gives him a more intimidating aura and personality. However it would be kind of boring in a movie. If you were to show his backstage life, it would kind of shoot on the business as it shows the backstage and sort of "fake" parts of wrestling. Now, if you were to make it like in The Wrestler where the company was never mentioned (until the end at ROH) but were a few small indy promotions, it could be alright. Also the character would have to be loosely based around The Undertaker and not blatantly THE UNDERTAKER. Change his name, modify his deadman gimmick. With the right tools, the movie could be quite successful. Even if it was made into a documentary, it would be very interesting. If you wanted to give it a plot though, you would have to make the aforementioned changes.

Honestly not a horrible Idea. Give him a Ghost Rider kind of tortured soul tile story line, it might be ok if they do a decent job writing the script, and make the wrestler a watered down version of a total demonic bad ass. Otherworldly zombie fighting badass sweet movie, or even a video game. Of course this could just turn Taker into the Kiss Demon and destroy the character all together.

His story was done in a comic book version back in the 90's.. so was Austin by the same company.. it makes Undertaker out to be the gatekeeper of hell or something lie that with Kane and Mankind as supporting characters.

This is honestly the best idea I've seen in a while I'd love to see a movie about the characters of Undertaker and Kane. And most main event gimmicks too, they'd be like vignettes only longer and more intense. I would watch it without question. WWE should then do them for Del Rio, Barrett, and Sheamus

I think a film with the Undertaker's character would be amazing. His persona is such a deep and dark character with unlimited potential in a film. I don't think a film just around him would work, but possibly a film where he is the villain or even a dark hero (yes, i know that's Batman but that's irrelevant right now). With that said, I could only see Mark Calloway doing it. The Undertaker is his, and his alone. But to answer your question, yes, I would definitely watch a film with The Undertaker in it. Also, as a filmmaker I can tell you that I've based some character I've written on certain aspects of the Undertaker because he has such an eerie and really ruthless persona that's uses so many different quality characteristics.

That's an awesome idea and concept. I'd watch it, too. Why don't you write the script? Write it using a similar character, same concept. Then pitch the script to WWE Studios.

A Fiction/Action/Horror/Western type movie on Undertaker the character would be sick & I would go see this, but WWE would need some big players to be on there creative team to make this movie work. If they was gon have the same jackasses that write for them on a week to week basis or the ones that have writen for there over movies then this movie would be doomed!!

everything you said about my post is valid/correct. i had just watched the sting:moment of truth bio movie and i guess it was just in my head that the movie basis would be biographical. there was a really rotten kayfabe/character book that told the story of kane. i THINK it was called journey into darkness. it dealt with the kane/taker/paul bearer dynamic starting as children. i would hope a movie would be made better than said book was written

I would certainly be interested in a movie explaining the origins of the undead Undertaker character, how he came to be as he is etc.

It would obviously entirely fictional and not wrestling-related in any way. I think people are misunderstanfing what this thread is about. The OP is not suggesting they make an autiographical film of the Undertakers career or something like a wrestler, but rather a fictional story featuring that character as an undead monster or something similar.

I think it would be something alot of people would be interested in.
