Would you ever NOT see a movie because of the actor/actress?

The thread is pretty simple I suppose. There's a movie coming out that seems right up your genre. The previews for it look excellent. All the reviews are in, and they're great. This is a movie of the year, Oscar worthy candidate. But dammit _____ is in it. And something about hiom/her bothers you so much that you avoid the movie no matter what you hear about it.

Could an actor/actress do this for you? And why?

For me, theres no one person that could ruin a flick for me, although I really cant stand Tom Cruise. But I have a friend who feels this way about Ben Stiller. Hates him. If you mention "Ben Stiller is in the movie", he won't see it. He just finds him so grating and annoying in everything he does that even the mention of Stiller gets him annoyed. So, is there someone out there like that for you?

Ben Affleck. I've got it in my will that, if I die while he's still alive, my other half has to track him down and throw my ashes in his face so I can choke him to death. I don't know why I hate him so much but, he's just the worlds biggest cunt.

I've heard Daredevil, Pearl Harbour and Armageddeon are alright movies but, because he's in them, I would rather saw my left nut sack off with a spoon then watch them.

Only person that should die slower and more painfully then him is Tim Westwood!!

I've got to the point where if Will Ferrell is the star in a movie I groan. I tried liking the guy, he just doesn't seem funny to me, Elf's decent and I tried watching Anchorman but he wasn't funny , I wanted to see The Other Guys but I decided to give it a miss because he was in it.

If I do like a film with Will Ferrell in it, it's because of the other cast members are funny or make him tolerable I love Zoolander, but he wasn't that funny in it in my opinion.

Yes!!! Finally a guy who feels the same. All of my co-workers go on and on about how great Anchorman, Step Brothers, and Talladega Nights are. I can't stand Ferrell. His humor seems so over the top and like he's forcing the joke on you instead of letting a few moments go by and then you laughing on your own. It's like, "I said something funny, did you miss it? I SAID SOMETHING FUNNY. LISTEN TO ME!"

Mark Wahlberg.
I hate this peice of shit. Can't stand the dudes acting. Mark Wahlberg has that rare gift of being able to ruin a movie just by being in it. His lack of charisma, acting ability, and just him being on screen has me near tears the entire movie. The only good movie he was in was Boogie Nights and that's because he had a good cast around him to make him look good. His weakness is shown in movies like the Italian Job and the Happening, as the casts were just awful. The guy has the effect on me to say "nope, Marks in it, I don't care how good the movie looks"...the guy is just aweful.

There are plenty of actors/actresses I don't like, but they'll never be the sole excuse for me not watching a certain movie they're starring in.

Any actor/actress I don't like could end up working with a director I love, or with a cast that overall I dig. Just because they're in the film, starring role or not, doesn't mean I have to pre-judge a movie, especially if they're working with people whose other work I respect and admire.

For instance, somebody said Mark Wahlberg... it's understandable that you don't like the guy, but really, if The Departed was released tomorrow instead of 2007, you wouldn't check it out just because he's in it? Doesn't that sound a tad bit silly? You're going to miss out on a classic like The Departed just because one actor you don't like has a supporting role? That doesn't make too much sense to me, and I would never make that mistake.

The are tons of actors and actresses who I don't like, but I don't think I would avoid a movie solely because of them. For example, I can't stand Kathrine Heigl, but a couple of weeks ago, I decided to give The Ugly Truth a chance. I thought the movie was shit, but I decided to take a chance on it. I thought the story would be interesting, and I do like Gerard Butler. Then there are some movies out there I actually liked, and they featured people who I couldn't stand. I think Luke Wilson sucks, but I decided to watch Death at a Funeral anyway, and you know what, I loved that movie.

There's always going to be a certain actress or actor you might not like, but to avoid a movie because of them would be going a little bit too far if you ask me.

Not to sound like a hater but I cannot watch any John Cena film. I don't mind him in the ring but out of it and on the big screen...it's more cringeworthy. He just cannot act plain and simple and he has a very monotonic voice. The Marine was one of the worst movies I ever got the privledge of witnessing.

Very true. To be fair I did say a movie like Boogie Nights was only good because of the amazing cast. Like The Departed. The movie had greats like Jack Nicholson, Matt Damon, Leonardo DiCaprio and Martain Sheen while Mark played a very minor role. So allow me to correct myself, if Mark Whahlberg played the major or main character, it would be a huge turn off for me. I guess a minor role wouldn't stop me from buying the movie or paying to see it. So yes, if the Depated came out tomorrow I would go see it, but not for Mark Wahlberg. Thanks for setting me straight.

I personally cant stand micheal cera...dont like him...hate his movies except for super bad but i hated him in that too but liked the movie...but i probably wouldnt watch another one of his movies. I didnt know who he was before super bad but after it i will not watch him.

Chris O'Donnell. I swear, he plays nothing but a whiny little bitch in everything he's in. Even if he doesn't try to, that's how he comes off. It's just annoying as shit. I dunno if it'd stop me from watching a movie that looks really good, but fortunately I never have that issue because he's hardly ever in anything good anyways.

OMG Michael Cera has less acting ability than a turnip.

Superbad was an AWESOME film, funny as hell but Cera almost managed to ruin it simply by being himself. He had a few funny lines but his whole "wimpy pathetic loser who always ends up with a girl even thoough hes an ugly cunt" character is just annoying, Jonah Hill and McLovin are what makes the film as great as it is

After Superbad, I saw Cera in "Juno".....for anyone who hasnt seen this film....FUCKING DONT! It is just terrible. Cera is appalling and since then I have refused to watch him in anything else. Even seeing trailers of his films annoy me.

And to the guy who said Ben Affleck, I applaud you. He has made a career out of simply being good looking. His acting is just shocking. My gf loves the film "He's just not that in to you", which to be fair is a girly movie but I quite enjoy it. Jennifer Aniston, Bradley Cooper, Justin Long, Jennifer Connolly are all good actors/actresses so I am more than happy to watch.....and Ben Affleck RUINS every scene he is in.

I have yet to see Affleck in a film where he is good. It has now reached the stage where if he is a leading man, I am leading the crowd of people away from the cinema. Even his face annoys me. The wanker

Ben Affleck is probably the only person who would make me out-right REFUSE to watch a movie.... HOW THE FUCK DID THIS GUY GET FAMOUS?!?!?!? I mean honestly, wtf? oh and Sean Penn (cept in Mystic River), guy's a douche

Good Will Hunting and Dogma my good sir. Maybe they were just good enough movies that I didn't even think about Affleck or maybe it was Matt Damon overcompensating but if I recall he was decent enough in those. If you really are convinced he's just a "wanker" you should watch Mallrats. He plays a complete ass in that movie. So at least you could watch it and be annoyed by him cause you're supposed to be.

how can you hate Chris O'Donnell...hes great in NCIS: LA givin its like the only thing i have seen him in and hes not whiney at all...just sayin..but to each his own i guess

The Rock. I've watched his first few movies from The Mummy 2 to Doom but I just cant be fucked to watch anymore of his movies because he isnt a very good actor...in movies that is and well even though he's my 2nd fav wrestler, I hate him leaving WWE for movies. I only wanna see him in the WWE not movies. But he's not the only actor/actress that I dont wanna see in a movie because of being typecast, it's also the Friends cast. Seeing em in a different role is just weird for me and I'd rather only see em on Friends not in a different role.

I've considered watching NCIS: Los Angeles cuz he doesn't look too bad in it. But watch anything else of his. And I mean ANYTHING, and he's a whiny little bitch.

Couldn't have said it better my friend.

Really? I thought that was one movie he was actually good in! Maybe it was just Ellen Page being awesome. But I thought he was a good fit and played the character well in a damn good flick.

Again, Im with you on Affleck, but i thought he turned in a damn good performance in State of Play alongside Russell Crowe. That was the lone exception for me. And while Im with you on him, it does beg the question.... why would you go see a movie with Affleck in it in the first place?;)

For everyone mentioning Ben Affleck, I highly suggest you check out Dazed and Confused. It's one of my all time favorite movies, and Affleck (a young Affleck) is fucking great in it, especially if you hate him. He's the perfect heel, so to speak.

Other good-to-great movies Affleck has been involved in:

Good Will Hunting
School Ties
Boiler Room
Chasing Amy
Dogma
Jersey Girl
Smokin' Aces
Extract

Also, it must be mentioned that Ben Affleck is turning into a damn fine director. Not only was Gone Baby Gone undoubtedly one of the best movies from last decade, but The Town has gotten a lot of great reviews as well. I'm definitely looking forward to catching that myself.

So, yeah... Ben Affleck FTW. Quit hating, fuckers. :icon_razz:

Nah, I didn't like him in that either haha, although it was not one of his worst. Crowe was pretty good though, so the movie wasnt a total bust. The fact Crowe was in it, and friends wanted to see it persuaded me to go see it.

I keep trying to give Affleck a chance, but I cannot see myself willingly watching another of his films again.

And someone mentioned him in Smokin' Aces??? I saw that film and at the end of it I realised he was on the cast list!! I cannot remember him at any point in the film. Was he killed at the start or something? Ryan Reynolds is the main guy in the movie I think, but I do not remember seeing Affleck in any scene. Lucky that, as I wouldnt have agreed to watch it had I known he was in!

I can't stand Michael Cera. His acting is very stale and he's always the same. When I watched Superbad, I cared about all the characters except Michael Cera's. He just felt so cardboard and simply there to fulfill the buddy role. Jonah Hill came with all the emotion and representation of the high school kid. Then I also watched Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist. I didn't enjoy it at all. Michael Cera was in it, and he was the SAME GUY. So yeah, I'm never watching another movie with this guy in it. What was that other movie that was being so hyped up? Scott Pilgrim? I'll pass.

Tom Cruise, Mel Gibson, Katherine Heigl, Vince Vaughn, Kevin James, Jennifer Lopez, Hugh Grant, Julia Roberts, Ice Cube, and Queen Latifah comes to mind. Also any movie that has rap stars in it instead of actors is a huge let down for me. I can't stand Katherine Heigl in any movie. I used to think she was hot before she played a superficial neurotic bitch in all of her movies.

Vince Vaughn and Kevin James are usually in the same annoying movies. I liked Swingers and Old School, but Vaughn has been in some pretty annoying movies lately. Hugh Grant, Jennifer Lopez, and Queen Latifah are in the same lame romantic comedies. Julia Roberts is someone that fits that bill too. Ice Cube was funny in Friday, but hasn't been in any decent movie since. Cruise is too full of himself to make any movie good. I refuse to watch a movie with Gibson- a Jew hating fascist woman beating racist.

First of, let me say that I am a big comedy fan. There is one man that is a cancer to this genre, and that is... Seth Rogen. Bruce Campbell's stump, after he cut his arm off in Evil Dead, has more comedic ability in it than Seth Rogen. Apparently nobody has uttered those important character building words to him, when he was a child: "You suck, Seth! You're a loser!!!! You'll never amount to anything!". I saw "Knocked Up" and there wasn't half a laugh in it. Then i forced myself to see "Funny People", after which I was contemplating suicide for about a week. Infact, the only movie I actually like Seth Rogen in is "Zack and Miri Make a Porno", and I guess it's 99% kudos to Kevin Smith for that. Come to think of it, utilizing talent in the right way might be more important than the actor in question...

I'm glad to see someone else mentioned Julia Roberts. I don't know why but I always find her annoying and Halle Berry as well. I don't know if I would refuse to see a new movie because they were in it but I know neither of them would be a reason for me to watch it, if that makes any sense.

Then again, you probably shouldn't listen to me. I really enjoyed Paycheck and didn't notice any of Ben Affleck's apparent bad acting but when I read reviews of it over on MRQE.com, I was surprised it seemed to get negative reviews. I had read the story it was based on and found it interesting so I was intrigued how the movie expanded the plot beyond the original short story.

i THINK YOU HAVE IT ALL WRONG ABOUT THESE Actors and actresses
My opinion the person that is making movie goers missing films is Megan Fox. First of all she does not have a clue how to act. Second she only got her acting career because of her looks, third of all Every movie she makes seems more horrible for example Transformers 2 Her Bad acting made me hate that movie and whoever forgot about Jennifer s body my friends said she was so bad that they wanted to laughed that this was a horror film and it seemed to not even hit the comedy horror.
