Would HHH be where he is now if he hadn't married into the McMahons?

There's an element of truth to the storyline they are playing out now. There likely WAS a deal of sorts in place - Shane would go and "prove himself" outside of WWE as a business man, as it's clear that when Vince DOES go, Linda does too thus, they need someone with experience outside "the wrestling bubble" as the danger would be Trips and Steph don't have that wider knowledge. I've long suspected we'll see Shane take Vince's role as Chairman, Steph taking Linda's role and Trips remaining COO in charge of Talent and "the show" itself.

That makes a lot of sense, frankly.

(I was also never sure how much Stephanie and Shane's shares were real or kayfabe anyway. Did Vince really hand Stephanie 25% of the family's stock when she was one year out of college? I guess so, since that's the same timeframe as the WWF IPO.)

With it being publicly traded it is out there when they sell stock if not always who purchases it... the story at the time was that Steph "was looking to build a house" so was capitalising but it would make sense if some or all of that was Shane "buying back in".

As for Vince handing over stock, sure he did. She'd turned 21 and Shane had gotten the same, so why wouldn't he, if you think about it it inscentivised her to work hard... cos the way his dad made him buy the company was no longer possible.

Of course he would be where he is.

He would have married Shane or Vince.

Hunter has been universally lauded as someone who would have done anything to get ahead in the business. He was always driven, straight edge and hungry for more. If you want this bad enough, you'll make it happen.

Kinda like everything else in life.

Folks it could have been worse.... Ladies and gentlemen, you're 17 time World Heavyweight champion , Macho Man Randy Savage...

how would that have been possible we don't know if randy boned her and at that time he would have been up there in years.

sure trips would been in pattersons, sgt slaughter, brisco position with the ear off vince and had some pull but he would not have been the son off god

As far as his in ring accolades yes. He along with Undertaker were the only 2 top Attitude Era guys that had longevity in the company in the ring post AE. He was established as a true main eventer by 2000 and as such he would have remained their with or without the McMahon's.

Now for his position within the company, he would have had no trouble getting a front office gig without the marriage if he would have went in that direction, but there is no way he gets as high as he did in the company headquarters without being married to the family. He would be in the same position as a lot of the guys he has brought in to the front office maybe a little higher up, but certainty not where he is today.
