Would Big E benefit with manager?

GeTiTT

Pre-Show Stalwart
I was watching smack down tonight and it pains me to watch such a great performer such as Big E cut a promo. He has the most potential but with no charisma and I easily see him becoming irrelevant.

He definitely could use a manager and I was thinking teddy long would be a perfect fit for him.

What are your guys thoughts?

I think Langston is getting better on the mic and has potential. I think he has physical charisma. I do agree that a manager could help.

Teddy Long? Because he's black?

I'd actually like to see him either join We The People. He's a big physical dude.

Or I'd like to see him get a hype man. Just a guy who talks up everything Big E says and does. Big E could say basic shit and a good hype man (think Alfonzo in ECW) would be a perfect energetic yin to Big E's stoic yang.

Why it gotta be black??!

Not the reason at all. But we haven't seen teddy on TV in a while. I was thinking of someone that's "free"

Putting big e with zeb colter would have him change his whole character and be forced in a team with jack swagger.

I'm thinking more realistic with what's on the current roster and teddy seemed to be the perfect fit

He wouldn't change his whole character. Just a heel basically. Have Zeb talk up how Langston lifts and works for everything, unlike all the moochers on welfare etc etc.

Teddy isn't the only possible manager. They can find managers anywhere. Teddy isn't even a good mouthpiece. WWE is moving towards new. There are a lot of "torch passing" type feuds and things going on right now. I think it's time for a new manager.

How would you feel about a hype man-styled manager?

There's a big difference between lacking charisma and lacking a character with direction. The only thing we know for sure right now is that Big E lacks the latter. You can give him a manager, but unless that manager has a clear direction for Big E's character, then his problems will persist. It's pretty simple - if you have no character, and you no direction, then you have absolutely nothing to say when you're handed the microphone.

Seriously!!!
I agree with you that Big E needs a Manager! but why it has to be Teddy??
Firstly, if you think he need a black guy to be his Manager one would opt BookerT over Teddy!
but it is ridiculous that you need a back guy to manage him! And He is a real athlete! sometimes I feel like he doesn't need a Manager!! Yeah he doesn't have good Mic skills but it doesn't matter with a guy who got lot of potential!! But he got a little push that's all what he need! Not a Manager!!
on the other hand with Paul Heyman got Cesaro and Zeb Cotler having Swagger as their clients the WWE would get bored to see a lot of managers coming down the ramp and blabbering about their clients!
No one wants to see a lot of talkings in the ring when they got big muscle chomps getting ready to brawl!!

And that's the bottoming Big E don't need any managers!!

The perfect guy for Big E. as a Manager is Booker T. He's not doing anything as "Smackdown GM" but as a "Hype" man he could be great for Big E. They could be a fun double act. Booker touting him as a future "five time" champion, all that kind of stuff.

An interesting alternative would be Zeb, but I actually think Ron Simmons would be a good fit too... have Ron take Big E. under his wing, teach him how to be bad ass and perhaps get JBL involved in some way too. Zeb works cos it's not what people expect from him as the gimmick is inherently slightly racist, but with Ron it could be similar... I mean Big E. is ALREADY wearing Nation colours... perhaps Ron comes out as Faarooq and "educates" him on what he is wearing.

A new Nation would also give Titus and Henry something to do as well and perhaps Xavier Woods who is languishing.

What if WWE brought back Armondo I think his name is, the guy who managed Umaga, I thought he was a great manager, nice modern day slick talker like Slick was back in the day. He needs a manager like Slick, not some guy like Teddy or Booker.

Ron Simmons would be the absolutely perfect manager for Big E. There both similar in styles, both are extremely strong and powerhouses. Big E is getting a bit better on the mic,but with Ron speaking for him it would make Big E more of a threat.. Big E is improving leaps and bounds.. He has a bright future IMO and with someone the likes of Ron Simmons helping him out,it would make all the difference in his character.. That is all thats missing from Big E,is someone just to give him that nudge

Nothing about Big E has come together for me. He needs a manager/ a mouth piece a much as anyone right now. He's obviously intelligent and talented but I think he needs to be intelligent inside of the ring rather than on the mic. He's a big man but he's almost too big to rolling around in the ring with guys who are quicker and smaller. I want to see him succeed but nothing about him works for me. Along with a manager he could use a complete overhaul.

It's hard to say... but if I were to think of a shortlist it would be

  • Teddy Long
  • JBL if he comes out of retirement. He's awesome on the mic.
  • Ron Simmons
  • Tony Atlas
  • Zeb Coulter
  • Vickie Guererro. I could see her trying to manage Big E. Note: I said try, and I meant this as a joke.
  • Tommy Dreamer
  • or William Regal. Seriously.

You want to push Big E then on,y one person, Paul Heyman. He can be a face manager with both Big E and Cesaro.

Big E has a lot of charisma . . . granted he may have a corny sense of humor, but hey that's him.

Go look at his Instagram, he is a goofy, sometimes funny dude and the WWE has really neutered him from what I can tell. I remember him being on commentary a few weeks back, like right before Elimination Chamber (maybe it was the match to see who would face him at EC), and he was very quiet and short with his comments, to it almost being somber.

It's 1 AM and I'm too lazy to go search videos but that last thing Big E needs is help with his charisma or mic skills. He just needs more time to get on the mic. Let him open a Smackdown with a promo or at least open an episode of Main Event. It's really a shame how nonexistent mic time has become for people who are not in a main program.

He needs something. Big E has stagnated for a few months and I'd suggest they do something. Giving him an actual chance to speak is a possibility. He did commentary for a few weeks and I'm guessing he'll do likewise for the rest of the IC title number one contender tournament.

There isn't that many options. Joining Evolution is something that could be a possibility. A feud that elevates all three members of The Shield and Big E would be fantastic. He has the look as well.

Heyman? He needs to focus on Cesaro plus Lesnar will return at somepoint.

Zeb? Possibly but Big E seems to be a natural face.

Otunga? Great speaker and has disappeared of the planet. Again, Big E should probably remain face.

Booker T ? Popular. Charismatic. Not doing much. I think we have a winner.

Booker T and Big E could work. Booker really has been relegated to doing pre-shows and he deserves better. The guy can speak and will help people care about Big E. Booker doesn't have to do all the speaking but enough so he actually gets the opportunity to cut a promo. He also, when he wants to, speaks a lot of sense. If it's on commentary or in interviews he will highlight what is good about Big E and that can only be a good thing. Booker T and Big E seems a very good fit because Langston is suffering.

I totally agree. Not only that, Big E is also a very hard worker in the ring.

A manager would definitely benefit him. Just look at his previous 2 title defend, he hardly said anything at all. He didn't have any promo, and even when he's on commentary, he said basically next to nothing. A manager would do him a lot of good. Vickie Guererro would make a fine manager, but unfortunately, she was released by WWE, right (I'm not too sure)? I would have imagined her bragging about Big E having her back, and with Big E around, she won't have to worry about getting bullied by other people.

Ron Simmons would be great for big e but then again so would zeb. Give the man more time with a stick to develop then think about a manager cant see him progressing further just being a big guy.

The thing my man, is that almost every singles star (heels especially) would benefit from having a manager- a manager that would do the talking for them, hype and praise them, maybe even get beaten up by the opponent at times... But the number of managers are limited and wrestlers needing them are aplenty. So we have to be selective about whom to give a manager and whom not to. It would be ideal to give the manager to someone whom we see with the potential to be a big player in the future... someone that is getting held back just by a couple of shortcomings, the voids of which the manager would be able to fill.
Now, our question is, do we see Big E. as a big star in the future? Hmmm... To an extent, yes... He has a solid muscular build; the crowds like him; with the right ring gear and entrance theme, he could be a little more popular. But then again, having a manager for a face seems a bit weird and out of place, so turn him heel. But if we turn him heel, he loses his popularity among the crowds and risks becoming a second Ryback. For a mid carder, cheers > boos. So we're in kind of a fix, really.

I've seen many fans of Big E. point out that he has a good sense of humor... on Twitter (and now Instagram too), and thus he is charismatic. I disagree with this analysis completely. Why should we have to go to his twitter or instagram to see his supposedly sense of humor and charismatic appeal? He can think for hours before coming up with a funny joke or tweet to post, and that is no criterion for determining anything. We have internet tough guys that are wussies in real life, we have internet studs that are loners in the outside world, similarly Big E. too has the charisma and presence of a rock (no pun intended). Most things about him, from his entrance music, to his ring gear, to clapping off powder from his hands, to the standard of matches he has- they are all mediocre. Until he can bring it to the table where it actually matters, with a good amount of luck backing him, of course,he's got nothing.

I think Big E shouldn't do promos and shouldn't have a manager to talk for him. He should be a silent assassin like Taz was in ECW. Just show up, kick ass and leave.

I kind of hate how in wrestling everyone is expected to be a good talker or have someone talk for them or they get ignored. Or they're seen as a lesser wrestler because of it.

I know it's entertainment and speaking is a huge role in that but why not have something different every once in a while?

Make Big E a man of few words but many actions.

I didn't say anything about his Twitter, I was referring to Instagram videos like the following

Big E has definite charisma and a kinda goofy sense of humor. Almost reminds me of a young Cena.

All of these could have a place on WWE TV, especially that last bit where he reads the weird fan tweets, that has a lot of potential as a weekly thing.

Big E has the tools to get over as a character but he rarely gets the promo time and when he does, it's something obviously scripted and generic. So what can he do?

And this doesn't even just apply to Big E, it applies to a lot of the guys on the roster who "can't get over".

I don't think he needs a manager. He needs a niche. From what I've seen of him, he's just a short goofy version of Mark Henry.

His entrance comes off dull too based on fans reactions. I don't know if he needs new pyro, new entrance music, maybe the title change could be a start on how he gets more character development

I like how Big E is always moving in the ring, he's probably one of the quicker more fluid WWE trained guys to come out in a while. As typical in the WWE though the moves for a competitor get MEGA repetitive... it's like they can't just wrestle, they have to have Vince McMahon write down approved moves for them or something.

Anyways, Big E... despite me liking his look and not hating his in-ring abilities(as I do with the majority of WWE talents), he came across as a hookie dookie John Cena type when cutting a side screen promo that aired during his entrance on Raw one night and that just ruined it for me. Like just being a sarcastic goofy sounding tool from time to time, you can tell he hung around Cena as he was training. So because of that... yes.. I think he should get a mouth piece and/or manager.

Teddy Long? I dunno, he'd have to get a lot more edgier, that's just a stereotypical pairing you suggested in my eyes. I'd rather see him work with Swagger in The Real Americans or I think he would fit the mold of a Heyman guy. Heyman could repackage him as a badass. Then again, Heyman didn't really do much for Cesaro yet.

Or hell just pair him with Xavier Woods and let them accompany each other during single matches and work a tag team. I feel like they'd have the right mix of power, speed, and dazzle. Sort of like how WWE hid Roman Reigns in between two great talkers and performers like Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins.

I think he's still trying to find his "character". At first he came in as a big heel who didn't have to do much except look mean and kick ass as Ziggler's bodyguard. Than when he got his push, he seemed uncomfortable around the mic and didn't really give his character a direction to go towards... He was just a nice, big, regular dude. Now his most recent promos have been way too over the top. He went from no charisma on the mic to a literally unbelievable amount.

I think Big E has IT. He just has to find a comfortable character to settle into.

I really like the hype man approach for Big E. The WWE should get on the phone with the boys over in Bristol and strike a deal where Coach can juggle life between his commitments there and pro wrestling. Coach brings a bit of old school yet remains fresh and edgy. Plus he would represent a semi big deal main stream cross over. Coach said himself he would be open to working for both companies.
