Would a hologram work in WWE?

From everything I read about Tupac's performance at Coachella (however it's spelled, I'm too lazy to google it right now), it was NOT old footage of 'pac. It was a 100% digital image, created in a computer from scratch. I'm still fuzzy on how they did his voice, since Tupac died a few years before the very first Coachella event. Does this mean that they used a Tupac impersonator to do the voice (at least for when he said "..what the fuck is up Coachella? ...").

Personally, I think the whole idea of projecting an image of a dead celebrity (or any deceased person, for that matter) on a sheet of mylar for financial gain is lame and distasteful. To be honest, the idea of the WWE doing something similar did cross my mind when I first heard about Tupac, but what would be the point? Couldn't you just watch an old match on videotape or DVD and get the same thing? What about giant TV screens in front of the ring, instead of sheets of mylar? It would be cheaper, and it would essentially be the same thing.

IMHO, the WWE should let dead wrestlers rest in peace. I think the same goes for dead entertainers, such as Tupac. There's already talk of the Jackson brothers bringing "Michael" on tour with them, and it probably won't be long before we see Kurt Cobain on "tour" as well (Courtney would rape anyone's corpse for money, especially Kurt's). Rendering a dead celebrity in a computer for a quick buck just seems ethically wrong to me, but I bet there's a lot of money to be made by doing it. Like I already said, I'd prefer to let these entertainers (including wrestlers) rest in peace. Give the guys who are actually alive a chance to shine instead.

well I don't think dre and company would of did that with out the approval of his mother who was thrilled about the performance, they was going to do nate dogg, at that event but decided not to.

people say this technology is new, when magicians been using it for years, in different forms, if you do it cheap, you can see where they cut out the backgrounds if theres not proper lighting.

its an old legend in the hip hop industry that pac aint dead, so thats one of the reasons this technology works for him.

Hmmm, probably not. While I liked Eddie, using this has to be for someone very very special. Someone huge in the industry.

Maybe a hologram of Hulk Hogan on the stage or something?

I could see it for an undertaker or something like that but not a dead wrestler. it wouldn't come off good and wwe would catch EXTREME heat for it. They wouldn't put the time and money in for it anyways.

If undertaker loses at WM i could see them doing it on RAW the next night as a farewell but no other credible situation comes to mind

even takers hologram would only work once a year!.

i dont get how they incorporate new stuff in pacs mouth, especially when he shouts out new rappers in his "unreleased" songs.. unless its an impersonator, or the cropping of multiple words.

Again, I don't know how much you know about Pac because his mother, is far from perfect. I don't know what her intentions are but to be honest, it's really tough for me to say this is cuz I've looked up to Pac my whole life and talkin down on his mom makes feel really conflicted. But she doesn't have the greatest track record, she had nothing to do with Pac just before and at the beginning of his career because she was a crack head. Now you have all these posthumously released albums that the real Pac fans have been disappointed starting with some of the way Until the End of Time was handled, and definitely in recent years, starting with Loyal to the Game has shown them milking his legacy. I mean that could be what Pac wanted, who knows. But no one is a saint here... which is again why a lot of stuff involving Pac gets mixed reactions from real fans...

I think that is all hear say and exaggeration in his music, his mother and him got close when she got clean, and he has wrote several songs about her, but I don't care how big of a crack head mom you have, she is still your mom, I never heard pac say one bad thing about his mom, like eminem has, I am a hip hop fan my self and know all about his history, but thats irrelevant here and I don't want to get into a big debate about tupac on a wrestling forum.. lol.

but pac was in the studio every day laying 2-3 tracks down per day, for the event of his death and so his music will never die, there are still 100s of unreleased tracks, that we never heard.

I was just connecting the coachella event to a wwe event, and the whole hologram effect and how it would work in wwe..

but to each his own, no one in the hip hop industry is perfect, a good percentage is crack heads them self, so if you see it as milking him for everything hes worth as dead, is on you i guess.

if you listen closely it sound like he said cold killa or something like that .. lol

What if the hologram is a womanizing, cigar-smoking Navy officer who wears goofy looking clothes and helps his friend put right what once went wrong?

+1000 internets for you sir!

I could see a 'Taker hologram being used in an angle to psych out an opponent. I don't want to see holograms of dead wrestlers unless its stationary and doesn't do anything. I feel reanimating someone to do something they never did just cheapens their life and death. Especially if it were used in the "Eddie confronts Vickie" idea someone threw out earlier. Seriously, that is a fucking horrible idea.

no he didn't.... why do people talk outta their ass.... Coachella never happened while dude was alive.

The hologram? I don't know, for an entrance, why?

I don't get the point? Maybe this is equally as dumb but maybe have 2 legends holograms put on a match. I mean look at the way his chain swayed and things like that, they accounted for gravity and realism real well. So maybe that would be more interesting to me, I don't know what to do about sound though. Would be weird...

Or like when someone comes back... you turn the lights down and have the hologram come down the ramp at the dude, and then when it flips on he disappears and the dude is behind him and just beats the shit outta him lol

Correction.. Coachella has held concerts and events dating back years even before Tupac came on the scene. The statement isn't entirely false. The Coachella Art and Film Festival or wtfever its called did technically start in 1999 three years after Tupac's "death". However i agree with you. The footage used for the Coachella event looks almost identical to another live performance Tupac and Snoop had early down to even the same clothing. Maybe they used that old show as a reference...

Back on topic. The only place something like this will or should be used in Wrestling is the Hall of Fame. Sure when the tech is more available and cheaper it would make for some kick ass Undertaker style mind games but a lot of the mind games we see in Wrestling take place backstage. Why spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on a promo when you can pre-tape and edit it however you want it to look. If its in the live arena sure it could be cool. Having Taker come out to the Entrance way and split in to 3 would be sweet. Having a star appear on stage to distract their opponent while the real one hits them from behind would be sweet too. The question is would it be worth it?

It's just too far out there for wrestling. I want to watch real wrestlers actually wrestling, not computer magic. You really wanna watch the old wrestlers, buy the dvds or Watch the reruns of AWA on ESPN classic or any of the shows on WWE On Demand.

this hologram/ projection thing works for one man and one man only..... THE ROCK! Now he doesn't have to show up via satellite every now and then, he can bring it via hologram/projector at every raw and every major PPV.

I could see TNA using this to make it look like they've signed a big name, like Cena or Edge, hell they'd probably give it the World title :lmao:

I could see this being Really cool for the Hall of Fame, not in an acceptance speach way, that would be terrible, but a faux "hologram" of the Wrestlers to the side of the stage would acctually look very cool.

But tbh, this tech has been around since the 1800's, more recently the Gorrilaz have been using it for years. If they wanted it used they would have used it.

Still, should be good for Indy promotions, they could actually get round Sid's no shows, plus a 2D image on a glass screen at the top of the ramp would probs work a better match than the real sid anyway.

If I want to remember Tupac, I just listen to one of his albums, or I'll pop in his Greatest Hits CD. I own the Viva La Raza 3 disc set, and this is one of the ways I remember Eddie Guerrero. Okay, the documentary portion of the set isn't all that good, but the match selection is GREAT. And if Viva La Raza isn't enough for me, I'll just jump on YouTube and look up some of his matches. Also, If I want good memories of Owen Hart, I'll just watch his Wrestlemania 10 match with Bret, or his WWF Championship steel cage match from Summerslam 1994.

This is how I choose to remember wrestlers, who have suffered tragic, untimely deaths. Watching their matches, promos, segments, etc. will do more than enough for me, and these moments will provide the good memories I'm looking for. Yeah, a hologram could work, but in the end, it just feels so unnecessary. WWE could probably put together an outstanding, tear-jerking video package (the video used for Mr. Perfect's 2007 Hall Of Fame induction would be a prime example) that would provide a better emotional impact. A hologram probably wouldn't measure up to a WWE video package, and I just don't see the point of having one in WWE. Also, it appears the hologram technique still has some glitches, and a technical hiccup on live TV could provide an unintentional embarrassing moment, and we would remember the hologram for all the wrong reasons.

Part of me is thinking - Hologram? Cool. The other half is thinking it's more than a little bit disrespectful.

The whole thing would just be crass and un-workable. It's one of those things that sounds good on paper but would most likely just plain offensive in real life.

This should be used for One thing and One thing only. On Mania Night when they bring out the HOF Class, if anyone has passed on and was inducted, Make a Hologram of them standing on the stage waving to everyone.

Definitely what I was thinking. I would enjoy it to see some classic matches that will never happen. If these holograms become a thing of the future, I could deifnitely see a hologram match at WrestleMania. Could you imagine the classics that could be put on?
