In 2000 Dusty Rhodes and his Son Dustin Rhodes well let go from WCW because of cost cutting measures. Dusty thought about leaving the business but then one night got a phone call from Kevin Von Erich - the last of the Von Erich sons. He offered Dusty and his son a place in the NEW WCCW. He offered Dusty 50% ownership. Dusty couldn't turn it down. WCCW had its first show in December of that year. WCCW began to gain a cult following and attracted roughly 300 fans a show. Then in November 2006 the unthinkable happened - ESPN offered a late night deal. But there was a catch - they would run from the beginning of Winter to the end of Spring each year.
