Welcome to My (And Not Sly's) House
This Spring, we'll get the second WBC, which for those of you that don't know what it is, it's sort of an attempt at a World Cup of baseball. It happened I believe two years ago, might have been three though, and it was a fairly successful thing. It takes place in the spring before the Major League season begins so no time is taken away from regular games. Teams from various countries compete in a round robin tournament to decide which nation is the best.
To me, this is a very interesting idea. American players are generally viewed as the best, but it's not entirely that way. There are dozens of great players in Latin America and a rapidly growing number of players from Japan. It can help spread the game around the world by showing people that various countries can indeed compete with the American players.
Thoughts on this? Is it a good idea or a miserable failure?
