With all these HBK and Bret Hart posts lately I've been thinking. People bash in for "not returning the favor to Bret" when fact Vince McMahon never asked him to lose to Hart, he simply asked him if he would like to work with him at WM13. Shawn had a bum knee and felt he couldn't fully protect himself because the office and the boys built it up to HBK that he really wanted to physically hurt him. He was hurt, he was pissed that Bret got signed to the big contract by using his leverage against Vince, felt Bret treated him badly, didn't support his runb and tried to bring him down and was cruel to him by always running to dirt sheets bad-mouthing Shawn. The torch was passed and it was Shawn's time, Hitman couldn't deal with that. Sure Shawn wasn't totally innocent in their issues, but Bret acted selfish and spoiled.

And people say he never jobbed. He used to say that on purpose because those were the rumors others were saying to dirt sheets; it was his way of rubbing it in. Shawn made a career out of losing in his early HBK days. When he as a face, he was expected to win. He lost to Sid, Shamrock by DQ, and in his last ever match(to that point) he PUT OVER Austin and let Tyson knock him out. He did the RIGHT thing when leaving. Even if they wrestled at 13 Shawn would have been booked to win. They didn't want the belt on Bret. That whole angle of HBK returning the favor was thought up by Bret, suggested to Vince and JR by Bret, and never given the OK by either of those. Thats why Vince only asked Shawn to WORK with him, not JOB

He put over Sid in a bullshit way. A DQ isn't the same as a clean pin or submission. And Taker had to make Michaels do the Austin job, as Taker said in an interview on Off The Record (Is it just me or is it weird to same someone is on Off The Record?).

Fuck leverage. If Vince was stupid enough to give Hart the contract he did, then he should have lived with it. End of story.

Bret didn't bring Shawn down. He intended to put the torch firmly in Shawn's hands at the end of a three match series. Shawn even agreed to Bret's plans to Bret's face. Bret wasn't spoiled or selfish. He simply refused to put over a double-talker who refused to return the favor for Bret after Bret said he'd do the honors for Shawn at Survivor Series. I don't blame Bret for choosing not to drop to Shawn that night, especially when his contract gave him creative control and he said he'd drop it to other guys. Shawn deserved what he got from Bret (the refusal to job) for disrespecting a guy offering to do the honors for him.

The idea that Shawn isn't a double-talking ass in regards to the Hart situation is laughable to me. He wasn't right in any way for doing what he did and he should have been man enough to shoot down the screwjob for the good of the boys and the business, even if he had issues with Bret.

To the last guy that replied are you crazy?bret wouldnt lose in canada!he wouldnt drop the title in the whole of canada we not talking his hometown of calgary but the whole country bret was leaving to go to wcw and didnt want to drop the title shawn may of done alot wrong sure but when vince asked him to job he didnt take a look at his last match against austin he didnt have to put austin over he broke his back at the royal rumble but did what was needed for company, lost to austin cleanly and took a punch from mike tyson bret did what was right for bret and he got what he deserved the wwe or then wwf put bret on the map gave him his first world title and he didnt want to leave the right way for everything vince did for brets career the titles the pushes bret wouldnt leave the right way but wanted to give the belt up because he wouldnt lose in canada its selfish and once again il say it bret got what he deserved
