Will Vince Russo's WCW:2000 booking work now ?

Vince Russo who is one of the pioneers in booking professional wrestling shows has contributed so much to the pro wrestling but don't get much credit he deserves and his hated for some of his work he did during his tenure in World Championship Wrestling (WCW) in 2000.He was the main reason for WWE's "Attitude Era" which is the best time period in Pro-Wrestling history.

Many people complain about the fact that Vince Russo booked WCW in 2000 by having a view in his mind that majority of wrestling fans are "Smarks" and know everything that is considered "Insider".But now 11 years later,in 2011,majority of Wrestling fans are "Smarks".Internet is widely used in Pro-Wrestling nowadays and majority of fans know that there are scripts and storylines involved in Pro-Wrestling which wasn't that open to Wrestling fans at that time as Internet was not cosidered a mojor part of Pro-Wrestling back then.

Now many people will say Vince Russo still booked shows in TNA and shows were horrible and blah blah blah.I am not talking about Vince Russo's TNA style booking which is filtered by Jeff Jarrett who listens to critics on the Internet nowadays more than the writers.

WCW 2000 was booked with many "Insider" storylines, angles and "shoot" style promos but now in 2011 when most of the Wrestling world is exposed to majority of average fans do you think Vince Russo's WCW 2000 booking will work ?

In my opinion it will work now more than it did in 2000.

No he wasn't. He believes he was but he wasn't. The shift into the attitude era was caused by a lot of things(ECW,the emergence of Steve Austin etc) and Russo was a writer for the WWE at this time. To say he was the main reason for the attitude era is absurd.

In my opinion it will work now more than it did in 2000.

It didn't work in 2000 WCW went out of business shortly after Russo's time as head booker, ratings went down the toilet during that time also. But I'm sure that's just coincidence.

He has recently been demoted in TNA,possibly due to the fact during his time booking, ratings and ppv buyrates have remained static. But probaly due to the fact another over rated booker or two don't like him.

Where you high when you wrote this?

With WCW eclipsing the WWF, McMahon called upon Russo to make changes to the televised product. Russo would contribute edgy, controversial storylines involving sexual content, on-camera profanity, swerves or unexpected heel turns, and worked shoots in the storylines.Hence Vince Russo is responsible for the "Attitude Era".

Russo gets way to much blame for most things. As for being the cause of the WCW going out of business, for the record, when Russo took over, the nitro rating went up about .5 and RAW went down about the same. The only reason WCW doesnt still exist, is because the time warner execs wanted to get rid of WCW before the AOL merger. Had they been willing to continue to air wrestling of TNT or TBS, WCW would have been bought by Eric Bischoff, not Vince McMahon. In TNA, Russo seems to get the blame for everything as if he is the only person doing the booking. You never hear anyone blame Jeff Jarrett or Dutch Mantell for anything.

I'll take word for that. However 1 thing I do know is David aquette didn't want to be made WCW champion. He argued against being made champion despite being a mark and someone who had never booked because HE saw it was stupid. Russo ran with it. Did Russo kill WCW?no. But he made the decesion to put it's major title on a non wrestler. He killed any prestige that title had. Which was the final nail in the coffin.

Also Jarrett hasn't booked since he screwed Angles wife. Mantell hasn't booked for years. When they were on the team the product was better.

If Vince requested him to make the product edgier, surely the Vince was responsible for the attitude era? Again he was one of a team of writers who all contributed to the product. And his ideas were more hit than miss. He was mainly responsible for the booking of the 99 rumble, which was an awful overbooked mess. The only thing Russo is good at is keeping a job despite incompetence.

Even David Arquette winning was 'realistic' in the way it happened meaning he pinned Eric Bischoff who isn't a wrestler. The event gained major mainstream media attention.

Sorry. I refuse to continue debating with someone who defends putting the title on arquette. It gained mainstream attention?Whoo whooh! Did it draw money? No. Did it kill the creditability of the title? Yes. It was a terrible booking decision
Try reading another autobiography. Maybe Bischoff's. Get another take on the era besides Russo's.

Already have read Eric Bischoff's autobiography and it was great but still Russo did book it right ,David Arquette pinned Eric Bischoff therefore his title win was booked as a fluke. If Miz can beat a wrestler like Randy Orton why can't David Arquette beat a non-wrestler like Eric Bischoff ?

Because you have a non wrestler actor win the company's top title just to promote a damn movie.

And Vince McMahon would tell him what works and what doesn't. Russo doing what he totally wants to do is horrible programming as evident in late WCW and TNA.

If WCW was making money, they wouldn't have axed it. But they weren't making money, they were losing a ton of it.

Arquette winning the WCW title was one of the WORST moments in wrestling history. Russo is horrible. End of story.

Vicne Russo was a writer in WWE during the attituide era, but he had to pass EVERY SINGLE ONE of his ideas past Vince before it went to air. In WCW he didnt have that person to edit his rubbish.
Vince Russos crap booking didnt work in 2000, and its not working in 2011 in TNA, so to answer the thread, no it would not work today. It clearly isnt
