Undertaker for Champ!
It has been over 4 years now since the death of WWE legend, Chris Benoit. Since that tribute episode of Raw that aired on the day he was found dead, WWE had only written a few articles on WWE.com about him, and since.... never mentioned the man's name or showed anything from him ever again. They've even gone as far as removing his very existence in anything and everything WWE related. That includes title history, video clips, DVDs, action figures... whatever.
Now, I understand what Chris Benoit did. That's all we hear about now when someone mentions Chris Benoit's name. But what about the great wrestler the man was? People automatically put that aside and have done so since the whole double murder-suicide story came to fruition.
The man was filled with drugs and suffered from brain damage... he was a wreck. Obviously he did some things a sane person wouldn't likely do.
But, when you talk about the drug policy that the WWE inforces, and also the rule of banned chair shots to the head... it's obvious that Chris Benoit is a major reason why those rules are used today. Now, I'm not saying that for that reason, he should be atleast mentioned in WWE media, but trying to erase this man's existence just isn't right.
So, I ask,,, will we ever come a time where Chris Benoit will be re-noticed as a former WWE superstar? Maybe a Hall of Famer? Can C.M. Punk possibly make reference to him someday (as he was his scheduled opponent on the day of his death)? Or will we just have to accept the fact that Chris Benoit was one of the greatest in-ring performers the WWE or the world, for that matter, has ever seen apparently "never existed"?
