Why J&J Security is important for Seth Rollins.

I've noticed that a lot of people want to see J&J Security taken off of TV, or at least taken out of the Authority. Many of these same people think they should be replaced, with some popular possibilities being

- Kane and Big Show, so that they are present without hogging the spotlight.

- The Ascension: Gives them something important to do while toning down their original flop of a gimmick.

-Harper, Rowan: They're excellent followers and this allows them to become the dominant big men.

- Slater Gator: Kidding, kidding...

I'm not really the biggest fan of JJ Security myself. While they play their parts well, I just find their antics to often be just as annoying as they are funny. But the reason why they're a necessity...at least moreso than the other proposed teams...is that they keep the focus on Rollins.

They're presented as strong enough to provide good tactical support for Rollins, but not strong enough to gift him a victory. Kane and especially Big Show, while they often lose, are at least presented as credible opponents during the match. Kane alone is almost always enough to ensure a victory for Rollins. Therefore, they will get more heat.

If the Ascension got put in this role, it would only be because WWE has decided that they will never get over as actual competitors and would only work as stooges. The only way this would work is if Rollins and the Ascension became an official stable- like a real Shield 2.0.

Harper and Rowan would have the same issue as Show/Kane, but would likely fade out more because of them because their personalities aren't quite so...I dunno, dominant? Both men speak very little and do very little outside of intense stares. Harper needs to be put in a position where he can show more character, while being with Seth would mean he'd have to show less.

I've also heard Mark Henry suggested for the spot, which could work after his solo career has ended. The nice thing with (mostly) retired wrestlers is that they don't need to be as strong as active performers, but Henry's booking- as erratic as it is- usually presents him as a credible threat.

So as annoying as they are, JJ Security provide Seth with an edge, but more importantly, keep the heat on Seth instead of taking it for themselves.

But do you agree? Do you think anyone would fit the role? Or do you think they should portray Seth much like they did Orton, with Triple H primarily provided any needed interference. Personally, I liked Seth's characterization right after the Shield broke up- where he was constantly shown to be able to beat upper midcarders (RVD, Ziggler) without help, but was detestable despite his skill and tended to fold when confronted with an equally dangerous enemy. But I don't want Seth to totally become Randy 2.0, so think JJ Security work fine within their roles.

Everyone is complaining about Seth Rollins being a coward heel. I do agree with that. But over the tines he's getting help from two dwarfs to win his match. They're a comedy team. J&J security is fun to watch. I love the way they got built up as a part of Seth Rollins.

Even though I want Big Show and Kane to be out of the Authority I still want the J&J security team to stick with Seth. Sometimes I really enjoy their segment. Jamie acting like a Badass and Joey is always mute and never uttered a word.

If Kane or Big Show keeps helping Seth to win matches it would look pathetic of Seth. But the J&J doesn't seem to be a problem. I hope I'm not the only one thinking that way.

Much as I hate the way Rollins character has been booked, I love J&J Security. Jamie Noble is gold on the mic, and has shown he has more balls than Rollins the way he stands up to people like HHH and others.

It always lands him and Mercury in the shit, it's hilarious to watch. Plus don't forget he's the not so secret, secret weapon.

Which illustrates the "made for TV" effect provided by their existence. Security isn't supposed to help a client win wrestling matches; they're supposed to guarantee his safety from outside forces before and after a match, not during it. Of course, that concept was blown to hell as soon as we learned what J & J were really there for.

Still, have you ever seen a less imposing security force than these guys? The security people I've seen are usually big, physically gifted.....and bad, bad dudes to mess with, characteristics that don't apply to these two. In real life, you don't see security men swatted around the way these guys are. The OP's idea of using the Ascension in the role sounds good; if forced only to defend rather than attack, I think they'd be good.....certainly better than Noble & Mercury.

But yes, you'd better believe J & J is important for Rollins; their existence makes him look like a hot shot, which is the whole idea. As it is, was it ever explained whether Noble & Mercury were hired by the Authority to protect Seth Rollins.....or engaged by Rollins himself?

For that matter, how come Joey Mercury isn't allowed to talk on-air?

Lots of people see J&J Security as the new-age stooges (Patterson/Briscoe), but they're really the new-age Chyna. I know that sounds crazy since they're booked entirely differently - Chyna was a monster ass-kicker while J&J are bumbling idiots - but the logic behind their role is the exact same...

In 1996, Triple H and Shawn Michael pitched the idea of Chyna to Vince McMahon. VKM wasn't impressed with their pitch initially, saying something to the effect of: "A woman bodyguard? People are going to think you're a pu**y, and they'l hate you for it." To that, HBK and Triple H said: "EXACTLY!!"

That was the point of Chyna. Triple H was playing the role of a man who needed to employ help from a woman to win matches. Chyna's size made it believable, but that she was a woman, it made Triple H come off like the biggest coward on the roster.

That's the same concept as J&J Security. Seth Rollins is 6'3. He should be able to defend himself. But instead, he needs the help of two guys that are 5'6 - and both of them are showing more courage than he is. In essence, the size of J&J makes Rollins come off like a pu**y in much the same way that Chyna made Triple H come off like one. That's why it works with J&J and wouldn't work with bigger guys playing the same role... We'd get an entirely different opinion of Rollins if he employed an actual bodyguard like Mark Henry (the new Curtis Hughes? Ew) and I'm not sure it would work at all.

J & J is entertaining. It's just starting to be a bit of overkill with them interfering in every Rollins match.

I guess when the inevitable Rollins vs. Brock match happens and Brock destroys J & J, Kane, Show etc. before winning the title back from Rollins, their services would no longer be needed.

And I would argue that this is the whole point. J&J are basically the antithesis of what professional security guards should be. They're about 6 ft combined for one, they're hilariously inept at their jobs, and rarely do they ever get any offense in... and Seth looks the more cowardly because of it. I THINK WWE was going for irony... but you never really know with them, do you?

Anyway, I don't mind J&J... I've found Jamie Noble hilarious since he debuted back in 02, and Joey Mercury is just fine as the silent character of the group, although I would like to see more interaction between the two circa Briscoe/Patterson 99. In fact, I've never had a problem with J&J. The real problem I had was with Kane involving himself in every Seth Rollins title defense for the past 3 months. Needing two "security guards" to cause a distraction every now and then is fine. Needing two security guards to cause a distraction followed by 4 interference's from a 7 footer is overkill.

Seth Rollins is being booked as a coward Champion. Someone who relies on the Authority to secure his victories. When The Rock was in The Corporation, there were far and few in between when he had people accompany him to the ring, but other times he came out alone, and won most matches either by interference from corporate members or his own doing. Seth relies heavily on J&J Security for help, which makes you not by him as a legit champion.

Seth doesn't NEED J&J, he doesn't NEED Kane or Big Show, Luke or Eric, or Mark Henry. He's a damn fantastic performer, he doesn't need anyone's help. I hate how the WWE portrays him as a coward. Hell, I hate how he's even a heel. Seth does his character justice, but he's always been a better face.

Look, Seth doesn't need help. He proved it on Smackdown, and he'll prove it tonight.
