Why don't factions sell merchandise?

Smart-Ass
With the exception of nWo and DX, no faction has sold much merchandise.

It doesn't seem to matter whether the faction is face or heel, or who is in the group. They just don't seem to sell.

Can anyone thing of any reason for this?

NxT has been selling a bit. So did Evolution. Of course they didn't or couldn't sell as much as NWO- The whole WCW became NWO for a while. As for DX...well honestly I think they sold more merchandise recently then they did in the 90s because there wasn't really anything major going on except Cena.

The reason I believe factions don't sell as high as one would expect is because they aren't around long enough for consumers to want to get their product. NWO lasted years while DX was off and on. No other faction in recent memory comes to mind that would sell high because in a year they've disbanded. Sounds plausible enough.

It has a lot to do with the people involved as well. If you've got a top draw face in a faction, that's gonna sell merchandise. The fact that the nWo and DX were so cool as heels they got cheers, resulted in them selling merchandise like they did.

Its not that complicated, really. The simple reason is because factions such as DX and NWO were more popular in their time than Evolution or (a newer faction) NEXUS is in this point in time. DX and NWO were during the 'Golden Age' (arguable term) of wrestling. A time where just about everyone enjoyed watching wrestling---It's true. There aren't the same number of fans that there once were. So what does this mean? Less people = less profit.

However, you really cannot compare sa faction like NEXUS to a faction like DX, as DX (in its time) was so much bigger than NEXUS could ever reach. There was simply a much greater amount of popularity and a much greater amount of exposure. Its only logical that DX would sell more merchandise than NEXUS because quite frankly, people liked DX more than people like NEXUS now.

Another reason that comes to mind is the fact that most of the merchandise that the WWE sells (currently) is rather awful and/or just doesn't have the *attractive* feeling. For example, the shirt of NEXUS that has the big N on the front and has "You're either NEXUS or against us" in the back---How can Mr. McMahon actually expect a decent profit coming out of the shirt when it is ugly as fuck?!...Even if we say it isn't ugly, the shirt looks rather poor in quality. Hardly something anyone would wish to buy.

But in the end, I still think it comes down to the fact that a faction like DX (or NWO) was more popular in its time compared to a faction of the present like NEXUS and the popularity it carries.

two things

1. It has to be cool to like them NWO had guys like Nash and hall, DX had HBK and HHH. Nash said it best the women need to want you the guys have to want to be you.

2. The shirts have to be simple Dx original shirt simple same with the nwo, if shirts are gonna sell they cant have wrestlers faces or crazy looking colors and fonts. Perfect example Nexus is a big ass yellow block, also most factions dont constantly wear their merchandise the NWO and DX ALWAYS wore their merchandise

I agree with what has been said here and also that if you buy wrestling merch that you are buying into that character. When Austin 3.16 exploded the whole arena were behind him which showed in the shirt sales. Same with nWo. wwf/e was the Austin show for so long and WcW was the nWo show for so long. With stables like evolution and nexus there is more goin on beside them on the show. On Raw at the moment there is Cena,Edge,Orton,Miz,Seamus and others all sporting there own merch theres hardly enough room for Nexus.

wow look at you all, sooo off :lmao:

the reason why most factions dont push merchandise boils down to two core things, logo and individuality. Who doesn't wont to buy a black shirt with a giant nwo logo with "4 life" spray painted under it? I liked it a lot more then the shirt featuring Hall, Nash, and Syxx. Who doesn't wont to buy a shirt with a giant DX on it followed by suck it spelled with a star? In fact who doesn't wont to buy anything with a huge letter X on it at all? Especially in the '90s. Generation X, PSX, 32x, Grafx, X-Band, The X Games, Malcolm X, the X files, American History X, and the new millennium would bring the XFL and the X-box.. Yeah you can't go wrong with an X.

I actually kinda do and kinda don't like the N shirts for Nexus. I don't care for that font, I prefer Olde English but it is to the point and identifiable. Its also good it has the Nexus motto on it because if I have to see David Otunga, Michael Tarver, and until recently Daron Young walk around with giant Ns on their chest I would like to know at least what it stands for lol.

The other problem with factions is totem pole positioning. Why would I want tobuy an Evolution shirt when I have the option of buying a giant H shirt showing my allegiance to The Game? Why would I buy a Four Horsemen shirt when the other 3 horsemen don't matter?!

When has the last time a faction has had a logo like NWO, DX, wCw, ECW/ECfnW, or the SES? How many singles wrestlers in general can truly take something simple and make it popular? Like Mysterio's mask, Sting's face, or Austin's biblical paraphrases?

Uhhhhh and your statistics to back this up in any way shape or form are were?

Of course they sell merch. Why? Its like a gang, a hang of cool kids. Everyone wants to be a cool kid, and it would appear all you need is a shirt to belong to them. That is how the members are marked, and represent themselves, so anyone who wants to be "with" the group, by extension, would buy a shirt.

LIkely chalk it up to the fact that factions are usually heel. Good guys dont need to use the numbers. Only cowards fight in numbers were they outnumber their opponet.

Uh, what? This is ridiculous. DX sold merchandiser, nWo sold a ridiculous amount of merchandise, and Nexus has a baseball cap, three t-shirts, and a hoodie on WWE.com that have been flying off the shelves. From the reports I've read, Nexus shirts have sold out just in time for Hell in a Cell.

Where is your proof that other factions haven't sold merchandise? Because everything I've found points to the contrary.

Do you need your eyes checked? When I turned on the tube to watch Raw this week, I saw a few Nexus shirts out in the crowd. Despite the simpleness of it, it appears to be selling like hotcakes. During Legacy's era, I saw a few Legacy shirts every now and then in the crowd. Sure factions don't seem to be selling as much anymore, I guess due to a crappy economy and the fact that they don't get too much of a reaction as the nWo or DX but they sure are selling merchandise.
