Who's the best free agent in wrestling today?

Tastycles

Turn Bayley heel
So Hogan's Hulkamania tour has such luminaries as the Nasty Boys on it. This led me to think, if I started a wrestling promotion tomorrow, who would I employ? So my question is this, who do you think is the best wrestler in the world today that is not signed to a company. For the purpose of this a company is defined as a permanent promotion with one or more exposures a week, be it in real life or TV, therefore ROH counts as a company.

For me, the answer is Umaga. Umaga is the best savage type character ever and he was able to put on good fights with just about any sort of wrestler and has had a lot of exposure thanksto his time in WWE. However, he has only recently been released, so I'm not sure he really counts.

Therefore, my answer is ElHijo del Santo. As well as being the son of the most popular wrestler ever, Santito has won a number of titles in Mexico, but hasn't been a part of a major promotion for years now. He is able to put on some incredible matches with all manner of wrestlers and he is technically very gifted.

Rob Van Dam would be my first choice. Last time I checked, he isn’t signed to any company therefore making him a free agent. Anyways, Van Dam has a big following and he is pretty damn entertaining. So I think he would be a great addition to my roster if I had a company and I was looking for a “hot free agent” since he would bring in fans and he could bring in new fans that see him. I know he seems like a risky choice, but I would be confident in hiring him.

Another “hot free agent” is Trish Stratus. I consider her one of the best female wrestlers of all time. I find her very entertaining and she’s had some very good matches that while they are not some of my favorite of all time, I still like them.

Some others are Petey Williams, Lita, Sonjay Dutt, e.t.c.

My number one choice would have to be Petey Williams. The Canadian Destroyer gets everybody out of their seats every single time it's been hit. Not to mention, I've been a big fan of Petey Williams since I saw his debut in TNA with him being in Team Canada (TNA's best stable to date).

After him, I would go with Chuck Taylor. He's not technically signed to ROH, and he's got a cult following on the indy circuit. I wouldn't even bother changing his character at all. He is comedy gold and can actually wrestle.

And as for my number one female... I'd pick Angelina Love. She doesn't have much ring rust, and she is a very great in-ring performer. It's no wonder why they put the Knockout title on her.

I think "Mr. Kennedy" Ken Anderson would be one of my top picks for the best free agent in the business today. His mic work is one of the best i have ever seen.

Granted, he is injury proned since he was in WWE, but that was just a string of bad luck in my opinion.

My choice is Davey Richards the guy so far this year has not had a bad match this year. His Mic skills are alright and he is playing his role really well currently in roh as one half of the American wolfs.

He can benefited in any promotion giving a good role and he can play either heel or baby face.

my opinion best free agent currently.

I'd have to go with 3 choices here.

Pac - This guy is amazing. He's been deemed "the man that gravity forgot" for good reason. He's also really solid with technical wrestling.

Joey Ryan - Guy gets heat like no one else.

Petey Williams - For obvious reasons, he's phenomenal in the ring.

lol Gravity didn't forget him... he just left it in the dust

But yeah, Pac is another free agent I'd take. Along with Human Tornado and Amasis.

PAC is pretty incredible. But Human Tornado IS the only wrestler to simultaneously hit a hurricanrana and dunk a basketball, which was pretty amazing in itself. But, I'd take Petey Williams, Luke Hawx, and Iceberg (his swanton bomb is AWESOME being 450 lbs), for "star quality", RVD would be the first call I'd Make

I'm not too knowledgable on the Indy stars at all, so there won't be any in here. I'd have to go with Ken Anderson. It's the mark in me. I loved Mr. Kennedy. He was solid in the ring. I won't even go into how great he was on the microphone. He was damn entertaining and could put on a great match. Petey Williams was pretty epic too, still don't understand why TNA released him. The Canadian Destroyer was a sure crowd pleaser no matter where it was used.

So, is this restricted to guys just in the States, or can we use somebody whose been gone from the mainstream for a while, but still technically under contract in, say, Mexico?

If it's the latter, then I'm gonna go with Mark Jindrak. He hasn't worked the States in a few years, but is still showing people up in AAA. He's got the highest vertical leap in pro wrestling. He's got the look that a lot of fans like, and he can GO in the ring. So, he sucks on the mic. Just throw him together with a good talker, and he's set.

If he doesn't fall in line with the question, I'd be hard pressed to say anybody besides Jon Moxley. For those not familiar, he's a mainstay here on the Ohio indie scene. He's a great talker, very talented in-ring, and has even performed a number of times on Heat. Now, mark my words, if any company would actually take a serious look, I feel he could be the next Ken Kennedy/ Anderson. Only, you know, talented enough to live up to his hype....

I second this. I have seen Davey Richards wrestle many times live and he is one of the best if not the best free agent out there. He wrestles with extreme intensity and I believe he is best suited as a heel. The only thing holding him back is size which is annoying. He reminds me of a Benoit/Dynamite combination, which is scary in a way.

A lot of people are saying Petey Williams, but I always thought he was just a one trick pony.

I would say Chris Hero.( Not sure how strict his ROH contract is, if he has one or what) Chris Hero is great on the mic, can really do work in the ring and (to me) looks like a young edge or Chris Jericho. I'm surprised TNA and WWE hasn't gone after him in the last two years.

Chris Hero and Claudio Castagnoli are both large enough to make it in the WWE. Both work a style that would work there and Hero can cut a good promo when he wants to. Claudio.... is ok with the talking but every so often trips over his English. I guess with a HEAVEN FORBID manager he might go far.

If Austin Aries' size was overlooked and he was allowed to work his current cocky sleazeball gimmick he could be a money heel anywhere. He's phenomenal in the ring, seriously, he could hang with anybody in the entire world and I'm not kidding. The personality as it is now would work. I mean he tells the faces off for swearing, does that not make him a great fit for WWE already?

Both sides want RVD. He won't work a WWE schedule and doesn't want to commit to TNA. I haven't seen any of his matches since he left, but plan to pick up Kurt Russellmania. I assume he's still got star appeal and can go in the ring.

At some point Tyler Black will move on. He's 23 and he just won the ROH world title. Aries is the first man to get that belt twice. Tyler could conceivably have a 6 month run, chase a heel for a few months, turn heel down the road, get the belt again, run with it again, and STILL be 26 or 27, young enough to go through WWE's developmental, and rise up the ranks or walk straight into TNA. At the moment he's violently against working for the WWE and his lispy promos probably aren't precisely what they want, but he looks like a wrestler and could be marketable for them. Looks like CM Punk, wrestles like John Morrison. Eventually he'll either be booed out of ROH or realise he could be making some real money.

I say the best free agent is RVD.

RVD could go back to WWE or he could go to TNA and feud with Abyss take TNA to the Extreme. He could also feud with Raven and Stevey and mick foley. But i think as of right now he is the best free agent in the wrestling bussines.

Since they had a tryout with the WWE, I am going to assume they have a pretty loose contract. I'd say the hottest free agents on the market today have to be the Briscoe Brothers. Man, those guys have a great look, are pretty entertaining on the mic as two rough neck country boys, and man, can they go.

I'd probably have to go with Petey Williams. The Canadian Destroyer can and does get everyone on their feet, it is one of my favourite finishers I've ever seen. Ken Anderson would also be great to have, but I don't know if he's a free agent or under contract with TNA. Desmond Wolfe would be great to have as well, but I'm pretty sure he's under contract, so he's off the list.

I would go for The Briscoes.... that is tag team wrestling! Why WWE or TNA have not signed these guys is beyond me, some of the things they can do in the ring are just awesome.

Definately deserve a shot at the big time!

Sabu :) The Facebuster would be boss on raw but maybe tna wouyld snap frist i dont knw :) but booker t is quite good bfor wwe smackdown he is a great superstar

Well I agree with Petey Williams he is talented and he can get over in the wwe with his finsher the canadian destroyer. Another talent I think that is a good free agents are Sonjay Dutt, Amazing Kong and Kenta when he is fully healed.

All there of these athletes and talented and can be viable part to almost any company in the world if they are used and booked right.
