Who would make the best commentary team?

When you take the commentator teams from all of the WWE shows, who do you think would be the best trio of commentators?

To be honest, I'm not sure. I think Michael Cole is actually good at his job, ignoring if blatant face favoritism, but Vince's line feedings don't do him any favors. Furthermore, his banter with JBL tends to suck more than not.

Speaking of which, I used to like JBL as commentator. But now it just seems like he either doesn't care, is trolling, or is trying too hard to be the heel of the group. I've almost embraced Smackdown more than RAW just because he's not there.

I'm a big Booker T fan, but I don't think he fits in this role. He often says nonsensical things and it almost seems like he's more of a...smark commentator? He'll acknowledge when guys like Barrett or Axel haven't "reached their full potential", but I don't really enjoy it. It sounds like he's slamming the performers, when it's the booking that screws them.

King has also gotten pretty intolerable. I liked him during his heel-ish attitude era days, but when I got back into wrestling he sounded disinterested and right now the only time I pay attention to him is when he makes a terrible joke...which is often.

Byron Saxton is slowly getting better, but he's just too bland. I can barely remember what he sounds like. I don't watch enough of the other shows to judge everybody else. I've started watching NXT on a regular basis and while commentary seems to be better, it suffers from a lot of the same problems that plague the main roster teams. I haven't been able to decipher who is who yet.

You can either choose current commentators or you can dig from the past. 'Face Jr+Heel King' was the only one I can say I liked, although I have some fond memories of Tazz as well. For current employees, I'm not sure. I don't like enough of them to form an ideal team.

Current? Probably Michael Cole and Corey Graves.

All time? Bobby Heenan and Jim Ross.

If WWE hadn't been foolish, they would've kept Matt Striker and Josh Mathews. Use them as the straight man, and find a color/heel guy to work with them, one that actually talked about things that were relevant to what was happening in the ring, and doesn't sound like their on another planet ala JBL and Booker.

I think it would benefit the WWE to go back to having just two people on the commentary team. Michael Cole doing play by play, and William Regal with analysis would work well. Face/Heel dynamic would still be there; Regal brings knowledge of the actual product; Cole can still shill as required. Win Win.

I used to like Josh Matthews the most before he turned into the psycho that he is now, i still think Matt Striker is better than anyone els at this.

SmackDown
Michael Cole, JBL, Booker T or Jerry Lawler

the only reason i choose JBL and Michael Cole together is because they're haliarius together, Booker T and Jerry Lawler don't really matter but whatever.

RAW
Renee Young, William Regal, Tom Phillips, Maybe Corey Graves.

These three are great at this, i enjoy all of their commentaries because Renee and Regal are Funny, They can call the match well and Make up great Stories, Tom Phillps is pretty Cool i like that he almost never makes mistakes, he does his homework and he does it well.

The only reason i say Maybe to Corey is cuz he's very inexperienced in Commentary he's good but need to get slightly better and get more comfortable announcing.

So this is my Opinion whatyall Think!!!!

I dont care what anyone says, but Shiavone/Tenay/Heenan was a great 3 man team. Shiavone provided the emotion, Tenay provided the educated wrestling terminology, and Heenan provided the heelish/color commentary.
Their call of Goldberg's US title win vs Raven on 4/20/98 Nitro was my favorite. Everything was spot on. Check it out on yourube everyone. (Hopefully this gets added to the WWE network soon.) Goldberg's win vs Hogan was a very close 2nd.

Also, the 3 man team of Mcmahon/King/JRoss was also great. They were at their best from 96-late 97---the WM match between Bret/Austin in 97 IMO was their best call.

But also, hands down, no one can top the best play by play man of all time---Joey Styles. Yes, he even surpasses Jim Ross IMO. Jim Ross would start flubbing the names of moves and even wrestlers' names at times later in his career. Styles was money, every single time. "Oh my gawd!!!!"

Right now though, the commentary teams aint really all that impressive. I just wish they had an energetic play by play guy who knew the names of all the moves, and spewed with emotion and got the viewer excited (like Styles). A 2nd color guy would be nice, maybe a former wrestler/manager who had a charismatic character and who could add some interesting viewpoints on the action and maybe heelish perspectives at times.

Renee Young- for the fact that a woman's voice would be something new plus she's very personable and an awesome face commentator.

Michael Cole- as a heel though. I think if done with Renee it be a good combo, as long as he didn't get annoying but more focused on the match itself.

Guest Commentator of the week- why not change it up on occasion. Have a rotation of different people to keep it fresh. If someone is catching insert them in.

All the current commentators and all the current teams are absolutely fine. All of them. The thing that isn't fine is the fact that someone is forcing these guys to talk over the matches about inane crap like a bunch of a-holes. Keep it simple, don't try too hard, just call the action.

Yes, they need to throw in some storyline stuff. Yes, they should be plugging the Network, their app, and their social media accounts (these make money). Just keep it all to a minimum. We don't need JBL and Maggle arguing over some speech flub one of them made for five minutes while a match is going on.

Good wrestling programming isn't hard to make, look to the past WWE. Look at what your commentary was like during the Attitude and Rock and Wrestling Eras. Call the damn matches, product is watchable.

If the main roster wanted the commentators to primarily and continuously hype the product, the matches taking place and the wrestlers involved, then I think Corey Graves, Renee Young and William Regal would be pretty ideal in my eyes. Although, in all honesty, just about any combination of any of the NXT commentators would make up a strong commentary team for the main roster without Vince screaming in their ears and/or insisting on cutting lame jokes rather than keeping the focus of the viewers where it should be.

If we could mix and match from different eras (as long as the people are still alive obviously), my RAW announce team would be Matt Striker & JBL, SmackDown would be Michael Cole & JBL, and there would be a special announce team for WrestleMania, which would be Matt Striker & Jesse Ventura.

William Regal and Paul Heyman would EASILY be the best commentary team.

Closest to a modern day Monsoon and Heenan. Regal, like Monsoon, is a former heel wrestler turned respected and knowledgeable face commentator, while Heyman, like Heenan, is the former heel manager.

Heenan and Monsoon by the way are the best commentary team in history. Hands down. Ventura and Monsoon come in second. I actually think Jesse Ventura is the best ever at the announce team, but in terms of a complete team Heenan and Monsoon had the best chemistry.

All Time- Bobby Heenan and Gorilla.
It didn't always feel like the same Bobby Heenan on Nitro- he disliked Schivone and near the end hated WCW.... though Bobby and Gorilla were gold! Gorilla 'calling it straight' and Bobby winding him up at every opportunity! 'Bobby will you stop!!!!'

I also liked Jesse Ventura as color commentator- in the kayface era he was deliberately justifying the cheating actions of the heels whilst taking swipes (sometimes personal at guys he disliked at Hogan)... and possessed a great sarconic wit.

In the modern era... Jerry Lawlar, great as he used to be.... has been in auto-pilot for years. He has however become synonymous with the product- so even at age 65 it looks as though he'll leave eventually on his own terms.

I was never a fan of Cole for years- though he has improved. I think Cole and JBL/Regal (providing wither play the heel color role) is the best bet for the current era.
Heyman is worth a shout- though I think he is better suited to the heelish colour guy- you still need the play by play guy to lead the commenrary

Besides Paul Heyman who can do whatever he wants with a mic and he will do better than anyone else.

I like Rene, she is fresh and the best interviewer in YEARS.

Regal is great too. But thinking of new blood, Corey Graves is amazing, and i also liked Alex Riley a lot.

So my team would be Rene/Regal, Corey and Alex.

On a side note, im not the biggest fan, but i must admit that Cole is a great annoucer, the problem is that he is too much guided by vince, give him a little freedom and he will rock.

Dream team: Mike Goldberg, Paul Heyman and The Brain.

My favourite comentary team has to be Gorilla Monsoon and Bobby Heenan with maybe Jim Ross and Jerry Lawler or Jim Ross and Jesse Ventura as a close second, I think others like Joey Styles, Tony Schivionne, Paul E Dangerously, Gordon Solie were all good too, To be honest I can't see anything in anyone currently apart from being all ok and passable but nothing great, Back in the day even during the worst of matches I still viewed to listen to the comedy between Monsoon and Heenan for example but I can't say I would ever just watch to listen to Michael Cole for example.
I don't think thats fully Coles fault as there seems to be so many things to advertise now such as the network, upcoming ppv's and the apps and sponsors that appears to dominate the show more than anything being said for me it just makes it boring and feels like were listening to one long advert.

All time - Heenan & JR. I actually liked Schiavone as well.

Ideally at this moment the best commentary team for me would be Cole, Regal & Heyman.

I think Vince was awesome at calling a match. He put real emotion into his words.
Did a great interview also. Jesse best color guy. Called a spade a spade.

Joey Styles and Jim Ross. Could you imagine? "BY GAWD, SETH, DON'T DO IT!!!" Curbstomp through the cinder blocks. "OH MY GOD!!!!!!"

Epic.

They dont need 3 people to do this.
What kills me most of the time is the shameless plugging and how forced it always feels.
A really good team would be
Play by Play: William Regal ( he will be able to call every single spot in the match and make the wrestler sound amazing while doing it.) He knows the ring, he knows the wrestlers and he is good on the mic. Easy on the ears and makes sense most of the time.
Or you could have Paul Heyman be the other man. He knows the business and can do that job just as good as J.R. ever did.
Color: JBL ( if he can act like JBL and talk about the wrestlers from a point of view of a wrestler and not a commentator. Not sell like death and be scared of a jobber....even if his job is to get someone over. Its just silly of the former WWE champion JBL be take orders from J&J ) or Booker T ( he will always keep you listening and to see what the hell he is talking about ) Someone a little bit of the rocker is needed in my opinion. It keeps people on the toes while they are listening. Booker or JBL are crazy enough.

As a joke though, if they do ever throw in a third person for a PPV ... it should be Scott Steiner! Can you imagine him going insane over a EC chamber match. That would be horrific but id listen.

all time? id go with Jim Ross(the first person i think of due to him being a constant fixture during my youth), Bobby Heenan(How can anyone dislike the weasel???) and Gorilla Monsoon. Monsoon and Heenan are already a classic duo, and i believe JR could seamlessly fit right in.

Currently? eh......the most obvious one imo is Renee Young. This woman is awesome(so awesome that both espn n fox sports wanna steal her), next, i really like the work Corey Graves has put out since joining the nxt announce team. I think Graves wouldve been a main roster talent if not for the unfortunate concussions. Lastly, lets keep it in the nxt wheelhouse and make Regal the third member. That team would make even the worst raw seem entertaining
