Who will The Rock face at the Royal Rumble?

Dark Match Jobber
A while back, I read that the plan was for The Rock to wrestle in three PPVs- Survivor Series, Royal Rumble, and WM28. Obviously we know his opponent for SS & 28, but what about The Rumble? Do you see him just being a participant or perhaps having a one-on-one with Punk perhaps?

No not punk. I think the rock will be in the middle of shooting a promo and bring up how the Miiz dressed as him on one Raw before WM27 where Cena faced Miz. The Miz and the Rock could go back and forth after Survivor Series and build up for a good match at the Royal Rumble.

I think that the Rock will just cut a promo on his match with John Cena at WrestleMania.

I agree with the poster above, that if he does actually wrestle at Royal Rumble, it will be against the Miz. They'll probably have John Cena as the special guest referee.

I don't see him being a part of the actual Rumble match.

I think I heard that he didn't want to wrestle at SS either but WWE made him, so I wouldn't be surprised to see him fight at RR if the opponent made sense. I agree though, Miz would be a likely choice.

I think maybe the undertaker...give them both a nice warm up for wrestlemania... It could be an amazing match as the undertaker has been match of the year for 3 years the guy can obviously carry the ring rusty rock enough to put a good show on.

The Rock isn't going to wrestle anyone at the Royal Rumble. He is just going to grab the mic and give another boring ass "i'm going to whip Cena's candyass at Wrestlemania..If ya smell......" promo.

I willing to bet 1 million Rubel that this will not happen. Rock vs. Taker is a BIGGER match than Rock vs. Cena.

I to have to go with The Miz here. I think Miz vs Rock is good for Miz just like fueding with Cena was. Miz is still a top heel and Rock vs Miz could be interesting promos and an interesting match.
I'm not going to throw CM Punk out on this it is possible but I think he will be a face for a while and it wouldn't make since anymore. I feel Punk vs Jericho is what will happen at WM.

Were he to wrestle at the Rumble, it seems simple to me. Put him in the Rumble. Easily building the feud between Rock and Cena into Mania.
Have Cena draw number 1 and somehow manage to stay until the end, despite interference from Miz and R-Truth. Then number 30 comes out and its the Rock. But surprise surprise, Cena manages to dump his WM opponent over the top rope. Rock then retaliates by pulling Cena over the rope, giving Cody Rhodes (or someone else) their first Rumble victory.
Seems like an easy repeat of Hogan pulling Sid over the top rope, leading to Flair's first Rumble win.
Would certainly build things nicely leading into WM.

I would be surprised to see the Rock wrestle a singles match at the Rumble, it seems like that would dillute the significance of his match with Cena. I'd expect some sort of presence without an official match.

But if he does wrestle a singles match, I agree with several previous posters that his most likely opponeny would be the Miz, and I think that would be an excellent program.

If hes at Rumble why not put him in the Rumble?

so he can earn his WM match vs Cena......

oh wait no that makes sense

Or he could work a program with the Miz. You know seeing as Miz was involved in the angle at WM27 between Rock and Cena. Miz has cut several promos about the whole Rock/Cena storyline.

OR lets put the Rock against NASH, talk about a bigger cluster fuck

Lets be serious just keep the Rock out of the WWE and away from Survivor Series, Royal Rumble and WM28

That's all well and dandy and you're entitled to your opinion but please have the objectivity to recognize when something is good for business.

Most regular fans will still tune into WM28, Royal Rumble, and Survivor Series without the Rock's name being attached to it. "Good For Business" isn't my concern, quality weekly programming, with great matches, and good story lines is. I don't give a flying fuck about Rock vs Cena, it doesn't interest me.

OK, but recognize that more people do than don't. MORE people will tune into those events if he's there, it's that simple.

Same bullshit argument everyone else has brought up, well heres the counter what do you do at WM29? WM30? WM31?

HBK vs Undertaker was good the first time around, the same the 2nd. Triple H vs Undertaker was complete fucking trash.

You cannot rehash these matches and feuds over and over and expect them to make up for the lack of developing other superstars and other big name talents.

The buy rates for WM and other PPV's have been lower because the WWE hasn't been pushing and developing big stars. Exaggerated costs for ppvs, and poor quality matches and build ups to those matches, and too many PPVs shoved into a short span of time makes people stop tuning in.

So what if Rock vs Cena gets 1.5+ million views at for WM28, thats a highly hyped match with big expectations, when the following PPV barely breaks 1 million viewers they get upset. Maybe because they don't fix the core problem. Not developing their stars properly to handle moving the company forward

You don't know where this is leading. You don't know that what happens in that match isn't integral for altering the direction of the company and it's future.

The Rock isn't HBK or The Undertaker, he's in great physical shape due to all the years he spent away from wrestling. There's nothing telling you he's not going to be involved with the company post mania except yourself.

He is more than likely going to be putting Cena over on the night and that is important in aiding the current generation of wrestlers. Not to mention that as one of the best mic workers in history and a very good in ring worker, he could help a lot of the guys who work there now improve their craft a great deal.

If you are Vince McMahon prior to Wrestlemania 18, do you take away Hogan and The Rock assuming that The Rock will be with your company for years to come still? It's passing the torch, it is certainly important to the future of the company. That's why it is good for business in the long term, because Cena is a company man and will be more likely to stay where he is than Rocky and him winning on that night in Miami is going to be the biggest rub going into WWE for the future.

Ehh? How do you know that he is still in great physical shape? Have you seen him wrestle? Well regardless, we will see his condition at Survivor Series.

So if The Rock will have one match at Royal Rumble I believe it should be on The Miz. He is mocking The Rock since WM 27 so they can put on a story. Putting him in the Rumble on the other hand, makes no sense. What if he wins it and Cena is not the champion prior to wrestlemania?

Throw Bryan in for the biggest TRIPLE THREAT IN WWE HISTORY !!!!
