Who Will Breakout In 2010?

I've been skimming really old TNA threads, and saw a less than successful thread asking this question for 2009. I'm going to try and save it (the idea) for next year.

Simply put, who do you think will be the breakout star for TNA next year? In 2009 we saw Matt Morgan and Hernandez go from mid-carders to the main event, and we also saw Robert Roode and James Storm cement their places among the greatest in TNA's short history.

For 2010, I'll go with Jay Lethal in the X Division as the biggest breakout of the year. He's always hung around the title scene, and appeared on PPVs, but he's never been looked at as the guy in the X Division. I think he goes into next year with some momentum off a good showing at Final Resolution, and by the end of the year has a reign or two as the champ. He can steal the show in the ring, and his promos aren't as bad as even I say they are.

Im going with a tag-team. MCMG these guys must get a title run. Alex Shelly could be the next Jericho if Dixie Carter lets him slip thru her fingers.

Firstly, I would disagree with Jay Lethal not being the guy in the X division. From Lockdown 2007 to start of 2008, he was the face of the division. He came as the black machismo, he had a greatr feud with Sabin, dropped straight away to Joe so him and Angle's feud could intensify, then took it back from Angle at No Surrender. He then joined the MCMG against 3D and Devine in the feud against the X division.

But for me, the breakthrough stars, I pray, will be the Motor City Machine Guns. They still haven't one the tag titles, which is a travesty. Despite alot of people agreeing they were the best tag team last year (check the EOY awards thread), they didn't do much, to be honest. Shelley had a short reign as X Champ, and then they had another short enough reign as New Japan Jr. Tag champs. However, they even put on one of my favourite matches of the year alongside LAX and No Limit. So yeah, hopefully MCMG.

Last year, everyone was saying Hernandez. You can say he brokeout, but his injury reallly hampered him. But I do expect him to make a splash this year. And Morgan will win a world title next year, I gurantee that.

The Pope has really been impressive since he came, and I'm reall starting to like him. His match with Angle was great on Impact. And I fully expect him to do something of note during 2010, with the X division title being a certainty.

And if 2010 is the year where Beer Money meets it's end, they'll both go on to great things. Their feud would be incredible, and of the two, I prefer Storm, but think Roode will go further. half of me hopes they break up, while the other half wants the awesomeness of Beer Money to stay together.

So, I hope it will be the MCMG, but I'm not counting out the Pope, Roode, Storm and maybe Hernandez, if you can count him.

I'm saying he'll be a breakout by being the champ, and making the X Division the must-see stuff that it was when guys like AJ and Daniels were main eventing shows with the gold on the line. He obviously won't get a main event with the belt, but it would be nice to see the belt defending somewhere other than the opening match.

I will agree it was a weak division. They may have had wrestlers like Chris Sabin, Alex Shelley and even jerry Lynn, They put three of the best wrestlers in the division (Lynn, Sabin and Shelley) in a feud involving, umm, Bob Backlund. They then lost Lynn to release, and Shelley and Sabin to the tag division. Lethal won the title afetr a serious of great matches involving a great Chris Sabin and an underrated Sonjay dutt. But he dropped it straight away to Joe, and then got it back from Angle. But he never recovered after that. He had tried for ages to get the title, won it, and then had to lose it. he then entered into feuds with Sonjay Dutt and joined Creed. But he hasn't done anything of note since he won the tag titles, for yet again, a few weeks. Which was yet again another mistake.

But don't think it was the weakest the division has ever been. Remember when Bashir and Creed feuded for the title.

I'm saying he'll be a breakout by being the champ, and making the X Division the must-see stuff that it was when guys like AJ and Daniels were main eventing shows with the gold on the line. Lethal is probably one of the most reliable wrestlers in TNA and the X division, and you know you'll get a solid match with him. And he's hilarious on the mic. But will he transform the division, not by himself. But he will be a vital part

I am going to go out on a limb and say that The Pope will breakout.He has already had a fantastic feud with Suicide and shown his role as playing a great heel.I can see him getting pushed as X division champ or maybe even main card as the top heel.

I really want to see Robert Roode in the main event picture. And bring back Chris Harris to reform AMW with James Storm. Roode has what it takes to be singles star and with AMW watching his back he would make a great heel champion that the faces would have a hard time beating.

I'm going to go with Desmond Wolfe. He's already got the amzing track record from ROH(as Nigel Mcguiness of course) and debuted by having a feud with Kurt Angle. Wolfe might get into the X-Division title pitcure because the Heavyweight title picture will be crowded for a while.

I just hope he doesn't become a member of World Elite because he'll only get lost in the mix.

 

[AJ STYLES I AM]

Deangelo Denero for sure. Think about this seriously. He had an ok carrer in wwe. Even though he had all of the potential in the world. WWE turned him into a jobber.Then he had a good showing in his last wwe match against Matt Hardy but he still lost. He was then realsesed. He then came to TNA. He had a great program with suicide.TNA was booking him great. He missed an x division champiopnship match and he was then gone for about a month. He made his return as a face and on impact thursday he had a realy good match against kurt angle. He has all of the potential in the world so hopefully he will win the X Divison title soon and then move to the heavyweight division. He has so much potential so hopefull TNA dosent squander his talent just like WWE did.

I'm going to have to agree with "ToughGuy" on this one. Robert Roode is the best non-used talent that should shine. In a contest with better quality matches and charisma, AMW had it all over Beer Money. Storm is a great midcard/tag team guy; but not breakout championship material. Hell, this past week on Impact, he gave Kurt a great match. Not to mention those times they feuded with MEM, Roode had the most impact...and that was with veterans. He needs a push!

By the way, what the hell happened to Hernandez's push? He was doing so well, than glass ceiling. Could it be a consequence of the Hogan effect? While I'm on a soapbox with TNA: what good is a title that never gets defended? The new Global title. Either eliminate the thing, or defend it...just do something with it.

I'd probably have to agree with HHHKING13 and say Desmond Wolfe, although I'm not completely sure. I think that TNA ultimately has big plans for Wolfe as they're already pushing him to the moon in a feud with arguably the best overall wrestler on the TNA roster right now. Things can always change at the drop of a hat, but he's who I'm going with for the time being.

As for why I'm not exactly sure, well that could very well depend on one thing: Hulk Hogan. Whoever ultimately becomes the breakout star of next year could very well revolve around what role Hogan is actually going to play, how much control he's ultimately going to have and who he personally likes. I hope I turn out to be wrong, as I just hate to think of some of these young guys' careers depending upon the whims of Hulk Hogan.

Pope for me. Who's the last guy to come into the company and win over the fans as quickly as he did who wasn't apart of WCW or ECW? Lashley certainly didn't do it. The closest comparisons you could draw would be Desmond Wolfe or Matt Morgan, and Morgan took quite a while to get there seeing as he started off as muscle security for Cornette.

I see Pope emerging as one of the major faces in the TNA mid-card, and I definitely see (X-Division) title gold in his near future.

i would say the DNA of TNA matt morgan cuz he had a great match with angle, came close a number of times for the world title i think he has the it factor to become a world champ sometime next year, God when you think about it WWE really did drop the ball with this guy

Daniels. This is a man who already has broken out and been part of legendary matches in TNA, but he still hasn't won the big one. Back when he, Styles, and Joe were raising TNA and the X Division's visibility in their respective and interlinking feuds, all three went on to have very different career paths. AJ found his way back to the world title recently, Joe did last year, and 2010 may be the year for Daniels.

It's possible that he's filler too. He's had short-lived feuds with high profile talent like Sting and been relegated to the mid-card as Curry Man and Suicide. However, if TNA decides to really take notice of his recent work with AJ and Joe and pair him up with another big face foil like Angle or Foley, he could cement himself as a reliable heel with a world title contender dimension.

I'll pick someone for each division.

TNA World Championship/Main Event - Matt Morgan - I believe that even with Hogan come in, that Morgan's push will continue after feuding with Team 3D. I can see him potentially feuding Nash somewhere down the line, and finally getting his shot at the belt, and getting a run with it too. He's had a great 2009, and I think things can only go up from here for him.

Global/Legends Championship/Midcard - Eric Young - I think Eric Young is going to run wild with this championship/division. I look for him to dominate the midcard in 2010, especially with his current alliance with Nash, I see that lasting for quite some time, potentially until the summer of 2010. Young will retain the championship for quite some time, of course due to Nash and cheap victories, but still he will have a good year in 2010.

X Division - Jay Lethal - I think the Black Machismo Invitiational will open some doors for Lethal. I believe after this little storyline, he will turn heel, and feud for the X Division belt and win it. He will then go on a lengthy run with the championship, and possibly drop around this time next year.

Knockouts - Alissa Flash - I group all of the Knockouts together, due to the lack of tag teams in existence to vie for the tag championships. So I'll focus more on the Knockouts title and the singles stars. I believe Alissa Flash will have a breakout year in 2010. She's so dominant, she reminds me exactly of Tara, and I believe these two will face off in 2010, potentially over the championship, and in the end Alissa Flash will win the championship, and maybe Flash can even feud with Kong too. I don't want to see Kong dominate the division again, so it'll be good to see Tara and Flash , who are very strong and tough in the ring just like Kong, to go head to head and potentially square off with Kong too.

EDIT : I've just realized I forgot the tag division. So I'll throw them in too.

Tag Team Division - Motor City Machine Guns - Maybe now that they are beginning to be utilized properly I look for them to begin to be a mainstay in the tag team title picture. Even though I am a huge fan of Beer Money, I am growing tired of seeing them constantly in the championship matches. With MCMG in the hunt, it adds some fresh matches to the shows. As over as Beer Money is now, I would love for them to turn heel again, as I'm growing tired of their face work. In 2010, I'm hoping for a Beer Money heel turn. Now back to the MCMG. They are great in the ring, and really deserve a true shot at the championships and possibly a run with the belts. They are over with the crowd, but the belts could be the one thing to finally really get them over. In 2010 I'm looking for the guns to have a lot of tag action and less and less singles action those crazy X Division matches, sure they do great in them, but I want to see them as a team right now, not as singles competitors.

I really hope you're right...But, Morgan is exactly the tpye of guy that Hogan would want to face, and beat, and that will not do anything for Morgan or TNA. He's a tremendous talent, and should be a mainstay in the main event picture.

Yes! Eric Young is in my top 3 in TNA (with Morgan and AJ) and should have a great year next year. He can dominate the mid-card in this character, and adding in Nash only adds to that.

If the Guns don't break out this year, I will riot!! TNA has dropped the ball so many times in the past, and I don't want them to drop the ball with the guns, I was liking their little comedy skits when they weren't being used properly and I love their ringwork. They deserve the belts and deserve to win them in at a big pay per view and have a lengthy run. I love Sabin's hesitation drop kick, it's one of the best out there. Shelley and Sabin are great together, and deserve it.

Eric Young is my pick. He has the attitude. He has the heat. He's a good wrestler. He even has backup. If they stop booking him as a scronny weasel and focus more on his inteligence, he can be the next top heel in the company. Right now, in my eyes this one's a given considering that Joe and Daniels are the only mayor heels. AJ Styles VS The World Elite would be pretty cool in my eyes. The prime example of an American Dream come true VS a group of Anti-Americans.

Jay Lethal is a great candidate as soon as they drop the gimmick he has. He is a great worker and he’s very entertaining in the ring. He’s also pretty good on the mic, but I feel the gimmick is holding him back. I could take Randy Savage serious with the gimmick because he was good with it, but Jay Lethal is nowhere near as good as Savage with it. It has run its course and they just need to drop it already.

The Machine Guns could also be breakout in 2010. It’s still surprising they haven’t held the TNA tag titles ever since they’ve debuted but I think next year is going to be a good year for them if they used correctly. Hopefully TNA has plans for them and don’t waste another year of having them by doing absolutely nothing.

I'm going with Hernandez. Earlier this year, many thought he would fail when LAX broke up. To be honest though, a man that big and strong that moves that well is a sight to be seen. Seeing someone that big hit the top rope, or dive over it, is enough to spark interest. Ask the Undertaker.

He has started to get his push, and it has been delayed, but keeping him with Morgan is working. They are keeping them under a heat lamp and they will both be ready when they get their shots this year. I see both Hernandez and Morgan getting the World Title this year, with Hernandez being the one that advances the most in status. They guy is intense, athletic, and strong. He also seems like the type that would take an offer from Vince if he felt like he wasn't being used properly. I think TNA knows they only have him for a year or two before he moves anyway, so they will take this year to cash in on him.
