Doctor Awesome
Pre-Show Stalwart
I have really wanted to write this thread for some time. The British Bulldogs were arguably my favorite tag team of all time, but I enjoyed their singles careers as well. Sadly, they both underachieved and we were left with the question of, "what if?" But that isn't what I want to hear back from everyone one; I want to know which one of the guys was your favorite, and why?
For me, Davey Boy Smith was the total package; the build, highly athletic, highly skilled and trained wrestler, and was way over for most of his career. I saw just a little of his stampede stuff and got a few tapes from Japan w/ him and Dynamite in the mid eighties. When they debuted w/ the WWF as a team it was clear that Dynamite was the feature guy, w/ Davey being the pace/strong guy. Dynamite was, and is still in many peoples' eyes the greatest technical wrestler of all time, and a tremendous seller and innovator of offense. Massive steroid use and chronic injuries rendered him handicapped before he was 40. His reputation is greatest in Canada and overseas in Japan, so unless people are researching matches on YouTube, the younger wrestling audience really knows little about him. His counterpart and cousin, Davey Boy Smith was destined for some really good things upon his singles return in 1990. An updated look, and larger frame made him the #2/#3 face on any roster he was on for the next five years or so. From the match with Bret @ Wembley, to his tag team with Owen, first Euro Champ, and member of the Hart Foundation circa 1997. Steroids played a role in him not ever being World Champion in WWF and WCW. Even worse, drug addiction and wear and tear took his life by 40. He was always one of my favorites and I wish he had been a WC at some point, somewhere. Though he isn't as talented as his father, I hope there are good things to come for Harry, so that if nothing else, the memory of his father with remain resonant.
Your thoughts.
